Leaving Jess in the hands of Zach at a time like this was one of the hardest things I thought I ever had to do. I made him promise me he would protect her, but I was still so uncertain about leaving her. He cared for her as a blood source, I....I didn't know how I felt, but I knew I cared more than that.

I sped up to the front door rang the bell. The only cars in the driveway belonged to Tanner and Jared. It was possible though that my father had a driver bring him to the house. That was what I was hoping for.

A tiny girl in a house maid's uniform opened the door with a fake smile plastered on her face. She curtsied, "good afternoon, Mr. McClain. Please come in. Your brother is in the living room waiting for you."

"Thank you, Kara." I smiled back at her. She was such a sweet girl. My father had saved her life one night at a club, she's worked for us ever since.

I walked down the main corridor toward the living room. I don't understand why my father gives Tanner so much when he does so little to earn it. Yes, my main place of living was bigger than his house, but I had earned the money and bought mine, myself. Tanner, on the other hand, had never had a job in his life. He always says he doesn't need one since our father is the vampire King of the United States. To some extent he was right. I didn't need a job either, but it was fulfilling to own companies and work for them in my opinion. Maybe that's why I'm so much more mature and humane compared to Tanner and Jared.

As soon as I entered the room, Tanner muted the flat screen TV he was watching and sped over to me. "Where's Jessica? Why isn't she with you? What did you do?" His eyes were a dark red and his fists were clenched. As much as I hated it, I needed to stop focusing on Jessica's thoughts and get inside of Tanner's mind. Once father arrived he would tell Tanner of his almost child. He had no idea what he was about to go through.

"She's outside with Zachary. They will be coming in a few but there's something I need to speak with you about first." I tried to answer as professional as possible.

'I don't care about anything you have to say. I just want my girl back.' "What could be more important than her right now," he growled.

I sat down on the couch and patted the seat next to me. "Sit down and try to relax please. This is important."

He rolled his eyes and threw himself onto the couch. 'I swear to God, if he hurt her I'll kill him.' "What, Finn? What is it?"

"Tell me how you feel about Jessica. I want the honest truth. Do you love her?" I knew this will backfire later when I rip her away from him but I needed to know.

'What the fuck? Why does he care?' Tanner stared at me with his eyebrows raised. "Why do you care? She's my servant."

"Answer the question, Tanner."

'Do I care for Jess? I care for her blood. I want to rip into her neck and feed from her until there's nothing left. God, I can taste her already. What was taking her so long?'

"Sure. She's great. Probably even better if you actually did what dad paid for you to do. Are we done now?" His leg bobbed up and down, like a crack-head when they've gone too long without a fix. Young vampires needed to feed every day. Had Tanner not fed since Jess and I left? He clearly was not in the right mindset to be talking about feelings, but at least I tried before I took her away from him.

A knock sounded behind me. "Can I come in? Or should I give you two time alone?" Our father dressed in his usual suit and tie. I wondered how he was feeling about all this, but I didn't dare look into my father's thoughts. That was too far.

"No, it's fine father." I answered.

'God dammit where is Jess? Why the hell is he here now?'

Father came and sat next to me, "Where's Jessica?"

"Right here, Mr. McClain." Jared answered.
