《My Vampire Ex》Up the Ante

I had searched the entire perimeter of the cabin and all downstairs. No one was here. My focus was so locked onto finding the intruder that I hadn't been listening to Jessica's thoughts.

'Am I going to die?'

Fuck! Someone had Jess. I sped up to the library and burst through the door. "Jess, Jess are you alright? Whoa, wait, Zach is that you?" My eyes widened. Jess was being held up by Zachary Fenton, and she was limp in his arms. He whispered something in her ear, and she immediately sat down on the bean bag, not saying a word to me. That was a bad sign.

"Jessica come here," I ordered. She just stared at me, half-conscious.

'Why can't I move? I want Finn.'

No...he wouldn't...he didn't....

"That's not gonna work mate...." Zach moved in between us and rubbed the back of his head. I stepped toward him, my fangs showing. "Why," I growled even though I already knew. I just didn't want to believe it.

"In my defense, I didn't know you were here. I thought she was alone. Unclaimed." Dancing around the subject was only making me more furious. I sped to her, shoving him out of the way. "What did, you, do." I stared down at her. She sprawled out on the bean bag, out cold. Her heartbeat was faint. My eyes went right to the holes in her neck, but that wasn't the wound I was most worried about.

"I mixed blood with her. It wasn't that much. I didn't want her to run off and get herself killed. I didn't know you had a servant, let alone a Pureblood."

I let out a frustrated sigh. I fucking knew it. Mixing blood with humans directly makes them more susceptible to suggestions. The closest comparison would be hypnotism. She should be back to normal in a few hours. Which I hoped was about the time she would wake up. Thank god for her fast blood regeneration. "How the fuck did you get inside?" I asked.

"Have you forgotten the key you gave me years ago? I come here all the time, probably more than you.."

I had forgotten.

I lifted her up into my arms and walked towards the door. "You didn't hurt her, did you?"

"No. She was quite nice actually. Did everything I said without any struggle. You've trained her well." Zach trailed behind me into the living room. I put Jess down on the couch and she groaned softly. "Where did you get her? I thought Purebloods died off centuries ago."

I sat at the head of the couch and pushed her hair out of her face. "She's Tanner's. Not for much longer though."

My dad had agreed to let me buy Jess out from under him. That way, my dad's most valued possession would be in good hands and I didn't have to send her back to the hands of those idiots. It was a win-win.

"How much are you paying for her? I'll help you double it, so they can't refuse the deal." Zach sat at her feet and stretched out, putting his hands behind his head. "Why would you do that? What's in it for you?" I had already offered to pay more than what my dad had paid for her. Zach had a point though, the higher the number, the more guaranteed the deal was.

He turned his body, so he was sitting cross-legged and facing Jess. He reached over and held onto her hand. "Can I take a look into her past?"

"I suppose so. Just don't change anything." Zach nodded and closed his eyes. He began to look through her memories. Each vampire gained a special ability from drinking from a Pureblood. It ranged from person to person. I could read thoughts and communicate with people in their minds. Zach was able to look into memories and dreams and change them at will. Needless to say, Pureblood was dangerous in certain hands.

Several minutes went by before he opened his eyes and spoke. "You feel the need to save her, don't you?"

I looked down at her sleeping figure. She was so relaxed here, her looks were angelic. "Yeah. I care a lot about her. I can't let her go back to my brother's possession. I'm sure you saw why." He nodded, "Yeah, that was rough to watch. Let me double your offer. All I ask in exchange is her blood. I miss being able to look into people."

"That seems fair. But no more blood mixing, ever. She does fine without it. I want her to be herself, not an obedient zombie." The main reason it pissed me off so much was that she'd only follow him now. I was nothing to her if his blood had touched hers in an open wound.

Zach lifted his hands, "I said I was sorry. I thought she was alone." He took her hand again and closed his eyes. "She's dreaming about you. Want to see?"

"Of course I do." I took his hand and closed my eyes, focusing my energy on him.
