《Chasing the New Girl - (Complete)》Chapter 38

The next day was Homecoming game day so everyone wore blue and gold to school, the football players wore their jerseys and the cheerleaders wore their uniforms. Austin gave Jolie one of his extra jerseys to wear to school like he had done before and she put on some black leggings and high top converse with it. She left her hair down this time and straightened it and put on some makeup. She wanted to look pretty for school today with it being game day and she looked at herself in the mirror and noticed the expression on her face and realized for the first time how nervous she really was about tomorrow.
She heard Austin honk and ran out to get into his Jeep. He was smiling from ear to ear and Jolie looked at him and said, "Wow! You're cheerful today!"
He grabbed her hand and put the Jeep in drive and said, "Yes I am! It's game day and we're playing our biggest rivals! I've been looking forward to beating this team this year for a long time. We're undefeated so far this season so we've just gotta keep it going! They're undefeated too."
"You can do it Austin. I know you can. When I watched the game I was just amazed at how accurate your throw was. You're incredible," she smiled.
Thanks Babe. I needed to hear that," he said, leaning over and giving her a kiss before heading down the road toward the school.
When they pulled into the parking lot and Austin shut off the engine he saw his phone ring with a strange number.
He put it on speaker phone and said, "Hello?"
"Hi is this Austin Fox?"
"Yes it is," he said with a curious expression.
"Hi Mr. Fox. This is Nanette Baker from the admissions office at Harvard University. Is this a good time to talk?"
His eyes widened. "Yes I can talk. I'm about to walk into school but I have a few minutes."
"Ok I'll make this fast. I received a communication from Scott Watson regarding your arrest and he gave some context around the assault that occurred to your girlfriend and also that the charges were dropped. We value Mr. Watson's opinion very much since he's a very highly regarded member of our alumni, so we took that into consideration. We also received a communication from Mr. Mason Gentry and his son explaining their side of the story and they requested that the charges be dropped and for you to still be admitted to Harvard. The admissions board met last night and looked over the file and read over everything. Under the circumstances and because you have had no prior arrests or disciplinary issues, we have decided to still accept you into Harvard under a probationary status for a time of 6 months. If after 6 months you have had no other infractions then you will be considered in good standing again. This probation won't have any affect on your position on the Harvard football team or your scholarship."

"Thank you ma'am. That's outstanding news!"
"You're welcome Mr. Fox. We look forward to seeing you in the fall."
"Yes I'll see in the fall. Thanks again."
Austin hung up the phone and started to cheer loudly, making Jolie laugh. He unbuckled his seat belt and jumped out of the Jeep and ran over to Jolie's side, opening her door for her. When she got out he danced around in the parking lot with her and spun her in a twirl and then dipped her back really far before leaning down and giving her a kiss.
He stood her back up and said excitedly, "This is incredible Jolie! I get to go with you to Harvard and I still get to play on the football team and keep my scholarship," Austin shouted, picking her up off the ground and spinning her around again.
Jolie smiled up at him and said, "That's the best news ever Austin. I'm so happy right now."
She wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him into a tight hug. Tears started to fall down her cheeks because she was so overcome with emotions and so excited that the future they had planned together could now be a reality.
"I'm so happy for you Austin," she sniffled, standing on her tippy toes and giving him a kiss.
"I have you to thank for all of this. If you hadn't asked your Dad to help, none of this would've happened. Thank you," he said with a huge smile. "I"m never going to let my anger get out of control like that ever again. I promise."
Jolie put her arms around his waist and he put his arm over her shoulder as they walked into the school with huge smiles on their faces. The hallway seemed to be extra busy and loud today with streamers and banners decorating the halls for Homecoming and a huge banner that said, "Homecoming," on it.
They stopped at her locker to put her stuff up before Austin walked her to her English class. He leaned down and gave her a kiss and whispered, "I won't be at lunch today. I called the doctor's office you went to and made an appointment over my lunch break to get tested. They said it's really fast with a blood test and the results will be ready within an hour. I'll see you in Calculus."
"Ok," she whispered giving him a kiss before walking into English class. Blaze was leaned forward in his seat making out with Bailey, who was sitting in her usual spot in front of Jolie's desk.

"Gosh you two. Get a room!" Jolie laughed, taking her seat.
"Hey I can't help it. I've got a super hot girlfriend and I can't keep my hands off of her," Blaze said smirking at Bailey.
Bailey blushed. "Oh stop."
"You two are ridiculous!" Jolie groaned.
Jolie looked over and noticed Mandy glaring at all of them and she couldn't tell if it was directed at Bailey and Blaze or at her but she could tell that she was jealous of someone.
"Hey Austin has a doctor's appointment so he won't be at lunch. Can I sit with you and your friends in the library today?"
"Oh uhmmm. I don't sit in the library with them anymore. They sort of kicked me out when they found out I was dating Blaze and when I got the makeover. They told me, 'Go sit with your own kind.' They also accused me of thinking I was too good for them now, which is totally ridiculous. So I'll just be sitting by Blaze at lunch now but you can sit with us."
Jolie wondered if just the 3 of them sitting at lunch would be awkward. She might feel like a 3rd wheel.
Jolie walked into Honors Calculus and sat down next to Austin giving him a kiss really quick before the teacher walked in. The Calculus teacher was a short skinny balding man who was really awkward and nerdy, but he was a very good teacher and loved math and actually made it exciting to learn it.
"Today I have a challenge for you guys! I've put some problems up on the board and I want you all to get out a piece of paper and one by one we'll try to solve them. The first one with the correct answer to each one gets $10 so you could win up to $100 if you were the first to answer all 10!"
He had each problem on the board covered with a piece of paper so he put his hand on the paper covering problem 1 and ripped it off. In a few seconds both Austin and Jolie raised their hands at the exact same time.
"Hey we have a tie if you both got it right. Both of you come up to that board over to the side and write your answers down."
Both of them wrote the exact same thing.
"Nice! Good job guys! Got it on the first try!" the teacher said with a smile, writing both of their names next to problem 1. On problem two Austin was the first to raise his hand and he got it right. On the 3rd problem another girl in class raised her hand first but her answer was wrong and Jolie chimed in next and hers was right. It went back and forth like that until they were at the last problem and Austin had 5 right and Jolie had 4.
"This last question determines the winner! But I actually just threw it in there for fun so you guys can see how difficult these types of problems can get. I don't expect anyone to get it but it'll be a fun challenge for you. You can take it home and keep working on it and if you can solve it by the end of the semester I'll give you $50. It's one that my professor at MIT put on the board and it took 20 minutes for anyone to solve it in a room full of mathematical geniuses."
He pulled the paper off and both Jolie and Austin started working on it.
"You guys can have the rest of the 50 minutes of class to try to figure this one out."
Fifteen minutes later Jolie raised her hand and said, "I've got it!"
"You've got what?" he asked with a laugh.
"The answer to the problem," she said and her teacher's eyebrow raised and he looked skeptical.
"Ok. Well come on up and let's see if you're right. Now don't feel bad if your answer's wrong. Like I said, this problem is extremely advanced."
The way he said it made it sound like he expected her answer to be wrong. She had noticed that ever since she got rid of her glasses and bleached her hair blonde people underestimated her intelligence and treated her like she was dumb. That never happened to her before her makeover. When were people going to figure out that your appearance has nothing to do with your intelligence?
Jolie walked up to the board and bit her lip as she was writing out the answer and the entire room was completely quiet, waiting with anticipation to see if she was right.

Needletongue, Carrotcake
The world isn't fair. If anything, the inherent injustice of the world is what separates it from the fiction we so adore. Luis Freighthold knew this all too well, and that was why it took a bit longer than it should have to realise when he suddenly had everything he could ever have wanted. Raised in a working-class single-father home, Luis had no other escape than fiction. Specifically, vampire stories of varying quality and genre. There was something appealing about the ability to fly, turn into shadows and become smoke. Danger. An unfamiliarity with the social world that rejected him so. Was it so wrong for him to hope for a different life? Maybe, maybe not. Either way, now he had it—a lust for blood and abilities beyond the understanding of civil man. Could you really say that he had anything left to complain about? A vampire story following an unconventional vampire boy forced to accept that maybe becoming a vampire doesn't magically solve all your problems. As a matter of fact, it might just make a whole bunch of them even worse. Regardless, Luis is prepared to try everything to live up to the vampire books he had previously gorged on. What did it matter that his vampire form had no teeth, replaced instead by a long, needle-tipped tongue? He was still a vampire, wasn't he? Chapters are around 10 A4 pages long, releasing once a week on Mondays, 01:00 CET.
