《Chasing the New Girl - (Complete)》Chapter 4

The next morning Jolie put on the outfit that she picked out the night before, fixed her hair and makeup just like they showed her how and she stood back and was impressed that she was able to make herself look just like they had.

She was kind of nervous about seeing Austin today after the flirty texts she sent him last night. She wondered if it would be awkward around him now. She walked downstairs and her Mom was in the kitchen cooking breakfast.

"Hey you! I stayed up late and finished the kitchen so everything is put away now and I went to the grocery store so the fridge is stocked. Now that we have a functional kitchen I thought I'd make you some breakfast for your first day. You look great by the way! " her Mom said with a big smile. It was obvious spending time with her Mom last night had made her feel better. Maybe her Mom was right that being close to her family was exactly what she needed.

"Thanks Mom. You didn't have to do that," Jolie told her, sitting down at the table and eating the scrambled eggs, wheat toast and orange juice her Mom sat in front of her.

She couldn't help but actually be a little excited about the first day because of Austin's offer to show her around and for her to sit with him at lunch. It was a relief that she would at least know one person. She ran upstairs and brushed her teeth really quick and sprayed on some perfume when she heard a honk outside. She grabbed her backpack and slung it over one shoulder and ran down the stairs to see Austin waiting out front in a black jeep that looked brand new.

"Nice car!" she said smiling as she opened the door and climbed inside.

"Thanks. My Mom got it for me when I turned 16. You look great!" he said, smiling at her before putting the jeep in drive and heading down the road.

He pushed play on his phone which was connected to his car speakers through Bluetooth and blasted some old school hip hop that they both rapped along to.

"You like Dr. Dre?" he asked her, turning the music down and looking surprised.

"Yeah. I actually love all kinds of music. Everything besides country," she laughed.

"Wow. None of the girls from around here like this music. That's actually pretty cool."

He turned it back up and they rapped together all the way to school which was about 10 minutes away. When they got there, Austin pulled his Jeep into a space at the very front, with a sign that said 'Reserved for Austin Fox - Senior Class President'.

"Wow you get your own parking spot?" she laughed.

"Oh yeah. The president of each class gets one," he said, pointing to the other 3 spots beside them that had similar signs "but of course the Senior Class President gets the best spot."

Jolie got out and straightened her skirt before slamming the Jeep door behind her and slinging her backpack over her shoulder.

Austin came around and said, "Are you ready to see your new school?" with a smile.

"Ready as I'll ever be," she laughed and started walking toward the school next to him. She was relieved he hadn't mentioned the flirty texts from last night so she decided they would just carry on acting like it didn't happen. She noticed as they walked by groups of people they all stopped talking and stared, watching them walk past and then whispering to each other.

"Austin. Why is everyone staring at me like that?" she asked self consciously, looking down at herself to see if something was wrong with her.

"We don't get new people here in Riverview very often so when we do it's a big deal, especially a new person that comes from New York," he said smiling down at her, "that looks like you," making her blush again. She had never blushed in her whole life as much as she had in the last 2 days since meeting him.

"Here let me see your schedule," he said and she pulled it out of her bag and gave it to him.

"I see your locker's right by mine so I'll show you where that is and then I'll walk you to your first class. My next class is across the school but after that we have a class together," he said handing the paper back to her.

"I really appreciate all of this. I was really nervous about starting at a new school but now I'm not so nervous any more. Thank you."

He smiled and said, "It's no big deal. I'm glad to help."

As they walked down the long hallway of lockers she noticed everyone turn and watch them and Austin said "Hi!" to several people and gave them fist bumps or high fives as they passed by. She noticed everyone looking her up and down, scrutinizing every inch of her with their eyes, making her feel self conscious. Austin found her locker and she put a few things inside before following him towards her first class.

"Ugh!" she groaned. "I can't wait until I'm not new anymore and people stop staring. It's so weird. At my old school there were so many students I was invisible, and I liked it that way."

He laughed. "Yeah well, you're definitely not gonna be invisible here so you better get used to it. I don't think people will ever stop staring at you."

As they walked down the hall Austin pointed to people and told her their names and something about them.

"That's Mandy. She's the head cheerleader and a total bitch to most girls at school. Watch out for her," he whispered as they passed a tall beautiful girl wearing a cheerleading uniform with very long blonde hair that had been curled and put up into a high ponytail with a big red cheer bow attached. She glared at Jolie with her piercing green eyes as she passed, making her feel uncomfortable.

"Well apparently she hates me already. Did you see the way she looked at me?" Jolie whispered.

"Well, she's my ex so she probably doesn't like you because you're talking to me. She's probably jealous."

"Oh."

That's when she looked up and saw him. A tall guy with dark black hair sticking up out of a grey hoodie pulled up over his head. He had brooding eyebrows and smoldering brown eyes that were so dark they almost looked black with a hard, chiseled jaw line that made him look tough. He looked like a character from a movie or a comic book. He walked down the hall with a confident swagger and she could see his bulging arm muscles through his hoodie.

"Who's that?" she asked and Austin followed her gaze to see who she was looking at and his smile dropped.

"THAT is Blaze McDaniels, the guy I warned you about at dinner. He's bad news. He cuts class all the time to smoke pot with his friends, throws wild parties and gets in fights. Everyone says he's probably already an alcoholic because of how often he gets drunk. Half of the time he comes to school with a hangover or stoned out of his mind. I'm surprised he hasn't already dropped out," he whispered as Blaze walked past them staring down at Jolie with his dark eyes, sending a shiver down her spine.

"That reminds me. The other guy I warned you about, Chaz Hernandez, is right up ahead on your right wearing the blue letter jacket. I think he's made it some sort of challenge for himself to bag as many pretty girls as he can and he brags about his success in detail to anyone who'll listen. He's a dick."

Chaz turned and looked at them as they walked past, eyeing Jolie from head to toe, not even trying to hide that fact that he's completely checking her out. He smiled at her showing his bright white teeth and winked. He was a tall handsome Hispanic guy and he had a mop of messy brown hair on top of his head and deep brown eyes. He was shorter than Austin and not as muscular but he looked athletic.

Austin pulled her close to him and wrapped his arm around her waist as they passed him like he was staking his claim. As soon as they were out of his sight he dropped his arm back down at his side.

Jolie looked up at him and said, "What was that?"

He shrugged his shoulders.

"I did that because I feel protective over you. I don't want him to think that you're available. Like I said, he's a real dick. He's on my football team and you should hear him in the locker room bragging about all the girls he's banged. I've seen too many girls get crushed by him and I don't want that to happen to you."

"Well thank you for looking out for me but I'm not some stupid chick that would fall for a guy like that and have sex with him." She laughed. "I'm not gonna waste my first time on some player who's just gonna break my heart and ditch me the next week. I'm smarter than that."

"Your first time? You're a virgin?" Austin asked, looking surprised.

"Yeah. Why do you sound so surprised?"

"There aren't really any virgins left at this school, not that are attractive anyway," he said laughing.

"Well believe it or not I am. I haven't even had my first kiss yet. I know. I'm pathetic," she laughed awkwardly, looking down at the ground. Her face flushed red, embarrassed that she actually just shared all of that with him. Sometimes she had a big mouth and she gave out way more information than she should.

"You're not pathetic. I think it's pretty awesome actually. Well here's your class right here. I'll meet you in the cafeteria for lunch," he said smiling and she watched him walk away down the hall. She walked into class and introduced herself to the English teacher.

"Hi I'm Jolie Watson. This is my first day."

"Oh yes I saw we had a new student on the roster. Go ahead and take one of those two empty chairs right there in the back," he directed and she made her way back there and sat down.

Five minutes after class had started the door swung open and in waltzed Blaze McDaniels, who nodded at the teacher before slinking into the empty chair next to Jolie in the back row. He leaned all the way back in his seat and stretched his legs forward intruding on the person in front of him but he didn't care. He acted like he owned the place.

He leaned his head back and clasped his hands behind his head, dozing off for a minute before finally sitting up and looking over at Jolie who was trying to pay attention and take notes.

"So are you the hot new chick from New York everyone's been talking about?" he whispered.
