《Somebody To Love (#4)》CHAPTER 24: She Will Be Safe

Harper drew her legs closer to her, placing her chin on her knees, hugging her body, her back against the headboard of the bed. At least he didn't lock her in a warehouse or something. At least from here she could see outside, but couldn't ask for help because firstly, the door is locked, secondly, she realised that they are at a very high floor.

It's not a hotel but it seems like a penthouse.

It was late at night and she felt so weak having cried so much and not eating something. Isaiah did bring her some food and she refused to eat which made him angry and he took it away.

She missed Gareth. She missed his hugs, his kisses, his touches, his words, his assuring smile. Everything.

Oh, how she wished to be in his arms.

The door opened and Isaiah walked in with a plate in his hand. She just glanced at him and faced away from him. His sight made her sick.

He sat down on the edge of the bed, infront of her. "Come on, Harper eat something." His tone was unbelievably soft.

She refused to look at him and he sighed. "Please. You want your child to be healthy, don't you?"

She scoffed with her head still turned away from him. "As if you care about it."

"I care about you." He stated firmly surprising her.

"Liar. If you cared even a single bit about me, you wouldn't lock me in here."

"It's just to make sure you don't run away."

"How caring." She said sarcastically finally looking at him.

He didn't have an evil look on his face, instead his features had softened and he looked hurt.

"I do care about you, Harper." He spoke again, staring into her eyes. "But you keep running away from me. It drives me crazy. Especially to know you are engaged to Gareth Wilbrose of all people."

"Why do you hate him so much?"

"As if he doesn't reciprocate the same amount of hate for me." He rolled his eyes.

"Gareth will find me." She told him. "He will find me, Isaiah and he wouldn't spare you then."

"He is busy hating you for leaving him, Harper. He doesn't have time to look for you." He gritted his teeth, leaning closer.

Harper's face paled in realising Gareth actually thinks she left him. More tears threatened to fall on that thought.

Isaiah's features softened yet again on seeing the tears in her eyes. Yes. He did care for her. However, he was obsessed with her so he would do anything to keep her with him. Even if it meant kidnapping her.

He gently brushed away the tears with his thumb making Harper cringe and lean back from him. She didn't have the energy to fight him.

He picked up the plate of rice and curry which he had placed on the nightstand and extended it to her. "Please, Harper. Have something. I know you are hungry."

"I am not." She lied, sniffing.

He brushed away a strand of stray hair behind her ear and filling the spoon with some rice and curry and took the spoon to her mouth. Cursing his nervous disorder when his hands started to shake but somehow kept it steady enough to not spill it.

He kept pestering her since she refused to open her mouth. She groaned loudly and snatched the spoon from him and ate it. "Happy?" She asked sarcastically.

He smiled. "Very."

She rolled her eyes and finished the rest of the food considering how hungry she was.

Huffing, she placed the plate down on the bed and he picked it up getting up to leave but not before he gently kissed her forehead, mumbling goodnight leaving her alone again.

Gareth gazed out of the window at the clouds passing by, lost in his thoughts.

Everette, Aeryn and Carmel had all fell asleep in the back seats.

Kyle, who had insisted to come along with them, was awake and hesitantly, he sat down beside Gareth pulling him out of his thoughts.

"Sir..." He spoke.

Gareth turned to him. "Gareth." He corrected and he nodded in agreement.

"Are you still writing your story?" Gareth asked him, which surprised Kyle because he didn't expect him to ask this.

"Yes. I am."

Gareth sighed. "Can you promise me something, Kyle?"

"Yes. Of course." He replied promptly.

Gareth lowered his gaze. "If all this doesn't end well, can you promise to give us a...happy ending in your story?" Gareth's voice cracked at the end, a lump forming in his throat.

"Why are you being so hopeless, Gareth?"

"I am just stating a possibility." He whispered gloomily. "Can you promise me this, please?"

"Yes. Your story is going to have a happy ending. Both in the real life and in my story. Don't lose hope, please."

"Thank you." Gareth whispered, gazing out of the window again.

As Gareth was leaving Matthew Hamilton's office after having a chat with him about Isaiah, he received a call from an unknown number.

"Gareth Wilbrose speaking." He said in a cold tone.

"Ah, Gareth." Isaiah's voice coming from the other end made his jaw clench and the grip on the phone tighten.

"Isaiah." He spat. "Where is she?"

He chuckled darkly. "Coming straight to the point, aren't you?"

"You must really love her to come all the way to Australia." He added.

"I swear, Isaiah--"

"Ah-ha. Let me speak first before you start to threaten to end my life and all that shit." He spoke nonchalantly with a bit of amusement in his tone.

Is this guy for real? Gareth thought.

"So...Harper is whom you are looking for. And I know where she is. I mean of course I know where she is since I am the one who took her... anyway, I am sending you an address. And if you wish to see her, you might wanna pay a visit there."

Gareth's mouth parted slightly. "Are you drunk or you actually have no idea what you are saying? You are telling me where you are just like that."

Isaiah clicked his tongue. "Yeah. Just like that. But... there's one thing. Come alone. Clever of you to take help from Matthew Hamilton but now, you need to come alone. I have eyes on your every move, Gareth. Every place you visit, the people you meet. Be careful of your next move. If I see anyone other than you walking to this address, you might not see your precious fiance again."

"Tell me the fucking address."

"Inpatient, aren't we?"

"Isaiah." Gareth warned and he chuckled again. "Fine. I am sending the address. See you there."

The call ended and Gareth looked at his phone in disbelief and it buzzed a moment later, and he received a text telling him the address.

Gareth took in a deep breath, ruminating what to do. Everette and his family were at the hotel thankfully.

After giving it a thought, he went inside Matthew's office and came out a few minutes later.

Coming out of the building, he sat inside one of the car that Matthew had lended to him and he drove towards the address.

I'm coming, Harper.

.

.

.

Stepping out of the car, he looked around, there were woods on either side of the road.

As Isaiah had told him, he walked inside the woods, following the small path that lead to God knows where.

Having walked for around two minutes, a two storey house came into view which looked quite old, the paint coming out of the walls. Window panes cracked, some broken.

And not a single soul in sight.

He took cautious steps towards it and was too busy noticing the house to hear the footsteps of someone coming behind him.

Something hit his head and darkness engulfed him.

.

.

.

Gareth woke up with a splitting headache, his eyes adjusting to the dim light and the person sitting infront of him on a chair.

He noticed he himself was on a chair and was tied to it tightly, his hands tied behind his back.

The chair was pulled a little closer to him and the person's face came in view. "Hello, Gareth." Isaiah smirked.

"Where's Harper?!" Gareth seethed.

"Oh, she's alright."

Gareth looked around the room for any signs for her but couldn't see anything due to the darkness. The only area illuminated was where he and Isaiah was.

"Isaiah." Gareth growled. "Where is she?"

"Aww...our lover boy is getting impatient." He stood up slowly.

And clapped his hands. "Bring her in."

He could hear some muffled cries and Gareth felt a bit of relief seeing Harper was okay as she was brought in by two bulky men holding either of her hands as she struggled to get free from them. Her eyes puffy, nose red, hair open and messy. The t shirt she wore looked dirty and so was the jeans since she refused to wear the clothes Isaiah provided her with.

She didn't notice him until he whispered softly. "Harper."

Harper stopped struggling and her head snapped to him. "Gareth!" Tears rolled down her eyes immediately. "I didn't leave you, Gareth. I didn't. He got me kidnapped."

"Okay, that's enough." Isaiah spoke silencing her. "Of course you didn't leave him or why else he would come this far."

"Why have you taken him now?" Harper cried. "You wanted me and I am here, aren't I?"

Isaiah ignored her and said to Gareth. "She was quite confident that you will find her."

Gareth itched to break free and punch that stupid smirk off his face. "Let her go, Isaiah."

It was then Gareth noticed the small screen in the corner of the room showing the outside of this place. So, that's how he saw him coming.

There were only those two men who held Harper and not anymore and everyone's back was towards the screen.

Gareth mentally smirked to himself.

Tears fell uncontrollably from Harper's eyes fearing what Isaiah might have planned for him.

"You should be worrying about yourself, Gareth. She will be safe but what about you?"

"Isaiah... please leave him. I'll do as you say. Just leave him." Harper pleaded.

"Harper. No." Gareth warned her, pleading her with his eyes to be silent.

"Oh, I am enjoying this." Isaiah smirked. "Both of you begging to spare the other person. That's so sweet. You must really love each other."

"Isaiah, don't hurt him. Please." Harper begged.

"Sweetheart, we both know he needs to be out of our way for you to succumb to me." Isaiah spoke to her and Harper's face paled.

"No, Isaiah! Please! I'll do whatever you will say. Just leave him please!"

Gareth struggled to get out of that chair but it was of no use.

"Will you?" Isaiah questioned. "Will you do whatever I will say? But then what? You will spend everyday thinking about him. Comparing me to him." Isaiah pointed a finger to Gareth.

"I won't." Harper cried.

Isaiah shook his head. "No, sweetheart. You can't be truly mine until he is alive."

The two men holding Harper had loosened their hold on her having standing there for so long but Harper was too busy begging for Gareth's life to notice it.

Isaiah pulled out a pistol from his back pocket and loaded it.

"Isaiah, No!" Harper shouted.

As long as she was safe, Gareth didn't even care about his life.

Cocking the gun, he lifted it up, pointing straight to Gareth's heart.

"NO!" She bawled but it was too late. He had already pressed the trigger and in a second the bullet penetrated his chest and was in his heart.

No. No. This can't happen. She thought.

She jerked herself from their hold and since it was loose, she was able to get out of it. She scrambled to Gareth whose face was paling and his eyes were closing as blood gushed out his chest.

She kneeled infront of him and patted his cheek hysterically. "No. Gareth no! Please!"

When he saw her, a tiniest of smile graced his lips as tears rolled down her eyes. She will be safe, he thought.

"Please." She whispered. She wasn't even sure what she was trying to say.

His eyes were hardly open, and then she heard a faint whisper. The words he wanted to say to her for such a long time, he finally managed to whisper it out.

"I love you."

It made her cry harder. I love you too. She wanted to shout but it was too late as his eyes shut completely.

And her heart froze with his.
