《Somebody To Love (#4)》CHAPTER 21: What's Wrong?

It's been a fucking awesome week of my life. When you are in love, everyday gets exciting.

I took her out on a few more dates, showered her with all the love and care I could offer. Made love to her every night and woke up each day with her in my arms.

However...I still needed to confess my love. And I was still being a coward about it. I was still scared to admit my love. I want her to love me back. Maybe she does...maybe...

I sighed. I love her. More than I could I ever think.

I...

"Gareth." Eve's firm voice pulled me out of my thoughts and I looked around realising we were in the middle of an important meeting. And the whole meeting room was staring at me in surprise.

Yeah. Yeah...I never zone out during a meeting. It must be a shock.

I'm in love, you morons! What do you expect from me?

Eve was staring at me and didn't look pleased at all. I gave an apologetic smile to everyone.

I cleared my throat embarrassingly. "So...um...where were we?"

Eve was so close to throwing me out of the meeting...which he actually did.

"Gentlemen, I am sorry but my brother doesn't seem well today. If you could all just excuse him." Eve spoke and gave me a look that said, "Get the fuck out of here before I throw you out myself."

"I'm sorry." I muttered and walked out of the room feeling embarrassed.

Kyle, my assistant followed behind me. "Are you alright, sir?"

"For the millionth time, Kyle, you can call me Gareth and yes, I am okay. Thank you for asking." I started walking back to my office with him following beside me.

"But sir--" I gave him a deathly glare. "I mean... G-Gareth...you never used to be like this. You never used to get late for meetings, never zoned out in between the meetings. Always very excited to be here, working and stuff."

"Yeah...I know..."

"You seem to be in love, Gareth." He joked but deadpanned on seeing the serious expression on my face. "Are you...in love, Gareth?"

"Yes. Don't say you didn't hear about my engagement. You were there in the party, weren't you?" I asked.

"Yes... I was...but...I never really believed that your engagement was real."

I raised a brow at him as we entered into the elevator. "Why is that so?"

"You see...well...you never dated. Of course. And then comes this woman one day threatening to burn down this whole building if you don't see her. And just a month later we hear that you are engaged to her already."

"That still doesn't explains..."

"Yeah. I was coming to that. I have worked for you for more than three years and I think I know you enough to know that it will take you more than just a month to fall in love with someone let alone get engaged to her..."

"You are talking rubbish, Kyle. Yes, it took me just a month to fall in love with her..."

"But your engagement is fake, isn't it?"

The elevator opened onto my floor and we stepped out. "Are you going to get this out to the media?"

"Heavens no, sir! I would never do that!"

"Hmm...you better..."

"And it was Isaiah Abraam who spread the rumor of your engagement and as I know you both are rivals...so I thought...that your engagement is fake." He continued to explain his point.

I walked inside my office. "Yes. The engagement is fake. Although, I'm truly in love with her."

"What made you fall in love with her?"

I sat down on my chair and leaned back. "Are you taking my interview, Kyle?"

"Oh, no, no...I am a very curious person and I had been meaning to ask you all this for a long time. I just didn't get the chance to. It's okay if you don't want to tell me, I am sorry." He rambled.

"Calm down...and it's okay. You can sit down." I gestured to the chair in front of my desk and hesitantly he sat down.

"To be honest...I have no idea why I fell for her. Initially, she made me hate her, she almost destroyed my library but then...I don't know why...I started to care for her. If she was sad, it automatically made me sad. And her smiles and happiness was contagious. And gradually I became afraid to lose her. Eve said I was falling in love with her, I was but I didn't exactly accept my feelings. Until one day, when I saw her with her best friend who hugged her and even kissed her cheeks and it filled me with rage."

I continued. "I realised I love her and I am too scared to let her go. Ever."

When I finished, I realised Kyle's head was bent down and he seemed to be typing on his phone.

"What are you typing on your phone, Kyle?" I asked firmly, startling him as he kept his phone down and gave me a sheepish smile.

"Why the hell are you writing what all I am saying?" I gritted my teeth.

He held up his hands in defence, his eyes widening. "I apologize, sir. I am sorry. It's not what you think."

"Then what is it?"

"Umm...this...I..."

"Show me your phone." I ordered and he was glued in his place. "Right now!"

With shaking hands, he passed me his phone and my brows furrowed on seeing the way he has noted down our conversation. "Why on earth are you writing this down as a story?"

I gave him his phone back demanded to know the reason. "Sir...I actually was writing...a romance story... thinking of writing a romance story and I thought of taking some inspiration from your love story."

"So you are writing down my story? Seriously?"

"Just an inspiration, sir. I love to write and that day when Ms Collins came barging into your office...it gave me an idea. Though I still can't decide what to write as the reason she came here..." He explained.

Being a bookworm, I decided to help her. "To announce that she's pregnant with my child."

His eyes lit up. "That's a great idea. Thank you, sir!"

"I was telling you the truth." I said in a serious tone.

"What? You mean...she...s-she is pregnant with your...c-child?"

"Yes. She is."

"Oh my goodness!" He exclaimed, covering his mouth with his palm in surprise. On seeing my serious expression he quickly added. "Of course I am not telling it to anyone. And congratulations."

"Thank you."

"Thank you for telling me all this." He got up to leave when I stopped him. "What is it call? Your story?"

He looked excited to talk about it. "It's called: Somebody To Love."

"And why?"

"Because you never dated, you were just a playboy--" He cleared his throat. "I mean you never dated and you were always busy, always working and then you found someone to love amidst all this."

"I know it doesn't make sense but it sounds good." He added promptly.

"And where are you writing it?"

"There's an online platform."

I nodded and smiled. "It better be a hit, Kyle."

He grinned confidently. "Oh, it will be, sir."

.

"Good evening, Diana." I walked into the kitchen coming back from the office. I pulled out a white rose from my pocket and handed it to her. "For you, my lady."

She smiled as she accepted the rose and looked genuinely happy as she placed her plam over my cheek. "It is so good to see you this happy, Gareth."

"Was I not like this before? Was I not happy?"

She patted my cheek and retreated her arm. "You were but you used to feel lonely, didn't you?"

"No...why will I--"

A glare from her and I stopped lying. "Okay...maybe...yes..."

"And it really hurt me to see you like that but now look at you... almost dancing around the house. I am so happy for you."

I kissed her forehead lightly. "Thank you, Diana. For everything."

"Now, shoo away. Let me work." She resumed working as I left the kitchen.

Changing my clothes I went into my study since Harper was not yet home from the restaurant. I smiled seeing the book Harper was reading, back exactly in its place on the bookshelf.

Sitting on my chair I pulled out the design of the nursery and made a few changes to it and I have no idea when I fell asleep while working on it.

I woke to the feeling of someone's fingers running through my hair. I slowly opened my eyes and saw Harper standing in front of me, gently massaging my scalp.

I smiled softly at her and taking her hand, kissed it. I sat up straight and stretched my hands while yawning and she sat down on my lap, placing her head on my shoulder, her hands around my neck.

I stroked her hair. "What's wrong, honey?"

"Nothing." She whispered.

"A very nice attempt at lying." I rolled my eyes. "Now, tell me what's wrong."

She didn't say anything and I spoke. "Did...Isaiah showed up again?"

She was silent for a few seconds before shaking her head in a no.

"Harper... please tell me. What's troubling you?"

Her hold tightened around me. "I will tell you, Gareth. Not now though."

"Is it about the baby? Is something wrong with it?"

"No." She lifted her head and gazed at me, placing her palm over her belly. "It's alright. Nothing's wrong with it.

"Then what's wrong?"

Instead of replying, she attached her lips with mine rendering me silent. I kissed her back softly.

The kiss ended too soon to my disappointment and she offered me a small smile. "Shall we have dinner now?"

"Sure." I muttered, yet not convinced that she was okay.
