《Somebody To Love (#4)》CHAPTER 7: Books

I was roaming his house after Aeryn left. Fortunately, she didn't kill me and even forgave me making me promise not to lie to her again.

And I can't believe we both are pregnant at the same time!

Roaming through the corridor, I came across a huge photoframe. The background looked like of some palace and in the middle sat on some royal chairs, Mr and Mrs Wilbrose and Gareth and Everette stood behind them with their arms wrapped around each other's shoulder with a warm smile on their faces. I smiled looking at the family picture. Cute.

Moving further down the hall, I stopped at a door. When I opened it and entered inside, a small gasp left my mouth looking at the library plus study. It was so beautiful.

Although I don't read books but still I felt fascinated by it. I went over over to the bookshelves and ran my fingers over the books.

There were some business related books but surprisingly the majority of the books were Romance Novels.

Mr-I-don't-believe-in-love reads Romance?!

I can't believe this.

There was a small knock on the door and I saw Diana standing there. "The dinner is ready."

I nodded before following her downstairs.

I helped Diana set up the table and sat down to eat. As I filled my plate with the different dishes she prepared, the front door opened and in walked an exhausted Gareth.

The sleeves of his light blue shirt were rolled upto his elbows, his tie loosened around his neck and his hair a mess and his stubble denser than a week before.

Walking past the dining room, he glanced at me and went away as I heard him walking upstairs.

Two minutes later he walked inside the dining room wearing a t shirt and a pair of gray sweatpants.

He sat down opposite to me and served himself before he started eating in silence. None of us spoke anything not even glanced at each other while eating.

After eating I offered to help Diana but she refused and told me to rest instead which I think wasn't a bad idea.

When I went upstairs I saw Gareth walking down to the end of the corridor and going inside his study plus library.

I have no idea why I am even noticing him so much today.

Aargh!

Anyway I went inside the room and scrolled through my phone for some time but I got bored so, even though I am not a book lover still I decided to borrow some book from his library.

He won't mind, right?

I walked over to his library and knocked on the door.

"Come in." Came his reply and I slowly opened the door and poked my head inside.

He was sitting on his chair at the desk, a few papers were lying on his desk. His spectacles resting on his nose, a frown etched on his forehead as he seemed to be thinking something. His lips were in a pout and a pencil was resting between his upper lip and his nose. His eyes concentrated on the paper infront of him.

His eyes slowly lifted from the paper and settled on me as I slipped in. He removed the pencil from above his lips and held it in between his fingers.

He cocked his head pushing his spectacles upwards with his finger as they slipped down. "Yes?"

Why does he has to be so hot?

I literally forgot for what I came here.

I scratched my head. "Oh. I was thinking if I could... borrow a book from here?"

His brows furrowed and his eyes narrowed at me. He spinned the pencil in between his fingers effortlessly.

Come on! There are just books. What's there to think about them?

For a decision that could be made in two seconds, he took two minutes.

I let out an exasperated sigh and turned to the bookshelf. I don't need his permission to take a book.

Just as I lifted my hand to a book be said in a low, calm, cold yet a scary voice. "Don't."

Seriously?

For the millionth time, they are just books!

Exasperatedly, I turned towards him. "What?"

He removed his spectacles and placed them on the desk and pushed back his swivel chair and got up. And in a few graceful strides, he was besides me. His attention on the books. "Which one do you want?"

"I haven't decided yet." I admitted.

He sighed. "Which genre do you want to read?"

I thought for a moment. "A thriller?"

He nodded and moved to the bookshelf located in the corner. He scanned the bookshelf and then picked out a book and handed to me.

I read its description and it didn't interest me. "Nope. Doesn't sound interesting."

And I flipped the book in the air and caught it. Gareth looked horrified when I did that.

He snatched the book from me and checked all its sides to see if there is any damage.

"Have you gone mad?" He scolded.

"What?"

"Don't do that ever again. What if it would have fallen down?"

"Then I would have picked it up", I said nonchalantly.

His jaw clenched. "You will not do that again." And then he carefully placed the book back on the shelf making sure it was alinged properly.

Is he obsessed?

I rolled my eyes and looked at the different books when a title interested me. 'The Silent Patient.'

I pointed to it. "That one."

"That's when of my favourites", he said not wanting to give it to me.

"So?"

He sighed deeply and picked it out and handed to me. "Not a single damage to it. Not a scratch or a single page torned. I want it back exactly as it is."

"It's just a book."

He glared. "There are just books for you. But for me they are more than that. I am very possessive about them and I don't lend it to anyone. Just read it carefully."

I face slammed myself. "Oh my goodness! If something happens, I'll buy you the same book again, okay?"

"No. You can buy it again but you can't buy the memories attached to it."

"Memories? Seriously?"

He refused to answer me and said. "Go. I am busy."

I rolled my eyes. "Whatever." And left.

.

.

.

He is fucking crazy!

Later that night as I was reading the book in my room, there was a line in it that I liked and I wanted to underline it, so, I went to his study to ask for a pencil and when I told him what I want to do with it, his eyes widened and he looked angry.

He said I am not allowed to underline anything nor am I allowed to let even a single scratch of pencil on it.

So he shooed me away without giving me a pencil telling me to take a picture of the line I like.

I huffed and closed the book and kept it on the nightstand. I have never seen anyone being so obsessed with books.

I was about to lay down to sleep when the door opened and Gareth came in.

"What are you doing here?" I asked.

"Going to sleep", he said in a 'duh' tone.

"Why will you sleep here?"

He rolled his eyes. "Because it's my room."

"What?! This is your room?"

"Yes."

I glanced around the room and got down from the bed. "Then why am I here?"

"Because you will be staying here in my room only. I am not letting you sleep alone."

Is he crazy? "Why?"

"I told you, I don't trust you enough to leave you alone. So, you will be under my watch."

My jaw dropped. "That's not fair! Plus I slept alone last night anyway."

"I know. Since I was not here, Diana was keeping a watch on you."

"That's creepy!"

He shrugged. "You will have to earn the trust." Before I could reply, he went inside the bathroom.

I groaned knowing I will have to share the room with him. It's his room, no wonder it's so beautiful.

I was feeling so frustrated with myself and of course with him.

The door opened and he walked shirtless, in just a pair of sweatpants making me gasp.

"You can't sleep like that!" I pointed to him.

He looked down at himself. "Is there a problem?"

"Would you like if I roam around your room half naked?" I said in frustration.

His lips tilted into a slight smirk. "I don't think you will like the answer to that."

It took my stupid brain ten seconds to register what he meant by that and I when I realised what he meant, I gasped and threw a pillow at him which he caught. "You are so shameless!"

He chuckled. "Can't help it."

When he stepped closer to the bed, I said. "You will not sleep on the bed!"

His brows knitted together. "Why?"

"I am not sharing the bed with you! Sleep on a couch or something."

He looked around. "There is no couch in the room."

"Sleep on the floor then, I don't care. But you will not sleep on the bed! Or you can sleep in another room."

His jaw clenched. "No. I am sleeping here only."

He picked up a pillow and a duvet and placed it on the floor just beside the bed, on the side where I was lying and laid down.

I grinned knowing I won and switched off the lights.

"I can't believe she refused to let me sleep on my own bed", I heard him grumble to himself.

And my lips twisted into a smirk. "Get used to it."

"Very funny", he grumbled.

And then there was silence but both of us were awake. The moonlight coming from the window illuminated the room.

He was staring at the ceiling with both his hands under his head and I watched him.

"Stop staring", he said sharply still looking at the ceiling.

I rolled my eyes and said, "Half of the books in your library are Romance Novels and here I was thinking you don't believe in love."

He glanced at me. "Who said I don't believe in love, honey?"

I chose to ignore the endearment. "Well...you don't date so..."

He sighed. "I don't date that doesn't mean I don't believe in love. I believe in it more than anything else."

"Then why don't you date?"

He removed his hands from under his head and faced me. "My company won't run itself. It needs me. And I don't like to waste my time by going on some stupid dates."

"You are not the only CEO. Your brother runs the company too, right?"

"My brother has worked hard enough, he worked day and night, it's his hardwork that made the company reach till here, I hardly did anything. Now, I want to give him some rest, to take some responsibilities off his shoulders, to make sure he is happy. Understood?"

I nodded not knowing what to say. I never knew he loved his brother so much.

We just laid there looking at each other, it was weird, no one broke the eye contact.

Then I said, "You want this child?"

"I do", he answered promptly.

"But that day in your office--"

"I freaked out, okay? You coming and telling me you are pregnant with my child was completely unexpected. I literally freaked out and I am sorry for that. But after you left, I was looking at the ultrasound reports and I just realised I made a mistake."

"I understand", I said softly in a low voice.

"You forgive me?"

"Maybe..."

He had a small smile on his face. "It's okay if you don't forgive me. But I want you stay here with me."

I hummed and nodded.

"Goodnight", he mumbled.

I mumbled back. "Goodnight."
