《Rooh-e-Hayaat روح حياة》epilogue

" Rooh!" Shahveer gently shook his wife.
" Hmm?" Ibtihaaj replied in deep sleep.
" Rooh?" He tried again.
He had befallen an imminent crisis and needed immediate expert assistance.
" Kya hua?" She mumbled still under the effect of sleep.
" I fed him, burped him and changed him. He's still awake..." Shahveer looked on in trepidation at the crib where a happy baby lay gurgling.
" So?" Ibtihaaj couldn't understand the point of this conversation.
" So, what do I do? Do I just hangout with him?" Shahveer was confused about what happens next!
" You're so cute" Ibtihaaj kissed him lightly, gave him an indulgent smile and promptly went back to sleep!
" Rooh!" Shahveer whispered to her, scared of what he's supposed to do now!
" Damnit Rooh! We are in a National Emergency here" he deliberated on shaking her again but then decided against it.
His wife hardly gets any sleep with handling their baby all day long.
He can handle this on his own. Like how hard can it be, right? It's just a baby who needs company till he decides that sleep is better than his father!
This would be the first time that he will be handling his baby on his own. His wife always takes care of these Three Am Feeding Runs and he just assists her.
But now as per the doctor's suggestion, they're trying a new- the expressed breast milk method as the lack of sleep is taking a toll on Ibtihaaj's health. This way even Shahveer can feed the baby and today was his first day.
" Okay I can do this. Ye mera beta hai..." Shahveer gave himself a pep talk and peered down in the crib. The sight that greeted him melted all his fears away.
His little three months old son was looking at him with his crystal blue eyes shining with mischief, drool dripping out of the corner of his mouth and he has never looked more adorable to his Baba.
" Zaan" Shahveer cooed at his baby boy.
The baby made happy noises at having been picked up by his father and showed it by slapping a pudgy hand on his cheek. Shahveer winced a little.
His son packed a punch all right.
The painful expression on his father's face seemed hilarious to Meezaan and he took that as incentive to do it more. Shahveer was slapped a few more times before he held his baby close to his heart, stopping all his violent actions.
" Zaan, it's me Baba. I just met you remember? We had food and a new diaper and then..." Shahveer was stopped from ranting any further by another slap.
" Zaan baby, You Don't Bite The Hand That Feeds You" Shahveer looked his son in the eyes and preached only to be hit by a wet fist.
" Zaan! Baba naaraaz ho jayege ab" Shahveer acted stern but it proved ineffective on the happy baby. Meezaan just babbled some incoherent words and slapped his father. Again!
" Bilkul apne Mama jaise ho tum. Baba ko pareshaan karna aata hai bas" Shahveer held the little body against his chest and swayed him around, whispering sweet nothings in his ears.
The baby loved being danced around at midnight and he squealed aloud in happiness.
" Ssshhh! You'll wake your Mama up sweetheart " he whispered in his son's ears and went out in the balcony.
Meezaan seemed content at the cool surroundings and the gentle swaying of his Baba's arms which effectively lulled him to sleep.

Shahveer gently placed him in the crib, kissed his sweet face and covered him properly.
" G'night my sweet little boy. Baba loves you so much" he kissed his son's head one last time and blew the night prayers on him.
Shahveer then crawled towards his wife and settled his head on her shoulder. Ibtihaaj immediately kissed his forehead and cuddled him closer to herself just as she does to Meezaan.
" I love you Baby" he whispered in her ears and pulled her closer.
" I love you too" she whispered back, still asleep.
Shahveer smiled because he knew that she does this unconsciously. She recognizes his touch even in sleep and that never fails to make him feel special.
He was just about to fall asleep when his son started to cry. Again. He had no option than to cater to his baby. His wife's health takes precedence over all his tiredness.
The next morning at the dining table, Shahveer couldn't keep his eyes open. His son's late night adventure had left him bereft of any sleep and now he didn't think he could function properly.
How does Ibtihaaj do it every single day?
" Veer beta neend nahi hui kal raat?" Duaa asked him concerned.
" Ammi, Zaan kept me up all night" Shahveer laid his head back on his chair and replied sleepily.
Ibtihaaj felt bad that when her husband was looking after their baby she was blissfully asleep. She squeezed his thigh in apology only for him to hold her hand in his.
She had expressed the same sentiments in the morning as well. Shahveer had taken her in his arms and kissed her worries away saying that Meezaan is his son and that as a father it is his duty to cater to his needs.
That had earned him a well deserved kiss from his wife. They couldn't do anything more because the doctor had refrained them from sexual activities atleast for three months after birth. They still had a few days left.
" Good. Tumne Mere Zaan ko bohot pareshaan kiya hai. Ab tumhari baari hai" Faiqa sassed to her son.
Her grandson is avenging her husband.
Baby Zaan to his Baba Zaan's rescue!
" Ohh Ammi! Mere Zaan! " Zohaib teased his Tayi Ammi.
" Hum kaha keh rahe hai Abbu humare Zaan hai. Wo toh sirf aapke hain. Exclusive rights joh hai aapke juttiyon ke Abbu par!" Behroz high fived his twin only to earn an ear twist from his Tayi Ammi.
" Ye juttiyon wali baat kisne batayi tumhe?" She twisted his ears more earning a loud laugh from everyone.
" Oh please Ammi. Everyone knows how scared Abbu is of you. And juttiyon wali story toh Moosy Bhai ne batayi" Zohaib laughed earning a slap on his head from Aamaal.
" Ammi, I might have been a baby but I do get random flashbacks of everything. It's like PTSD" Musa fake shuddered.
" I still have nightmares of a crazy girl running towards me with her juttiya in hand" Musa added cheekily making Azaan look down guiltily.
" Haaye mera masoom sa Moosy Moose. Ammi is sorry for it all" Faiqa reached over and pinched her favourite son's cheeks.
Musa was everyone's laadla.
" Thoda pyaar mujhe bhi chahiye. Biwi ke attention ke liye betey se compete karo aur MAA ke pyaar ke liye Moosy Bhai se" Shahveer cribbed with a fake scowl.
" Aur main?" Bakhtiyaar raised his eyebrows.
" Aap toh hai hi sautele. Adopted betey se waise bhi bhed-bhaav hi kartey hai. Filmey nahi dekhte hai kya aap Bakhtii Bhai?" Shahveer teased his older brother.

" Acha hi hai ki Zaan tumhe pareshaan kar raha hai. Hum sabka badla chun chun kar lega mera bachha" Azaan smirked at his younger son proud of his grandbaby.
" Aapko toh maza hi aayega na. You were always jealous of me" Shahveer smirked back to his father.
" I am jealous of you? You? " Azaan laughed at his son's delusion.
" Obviously. Mama loves me more than you and always gave me more attention. Isliye aap bachpan se hi mujhse jalte hai Baba" Shahveer poked his tongue out at his father.
" Ye kisne keh diya tumhe? Who said I love you more than My Zaan?" Faiqa deadpanned.
" You don't? I'm your baby boy Mama" Shahveer jutted his lower lip out at his mother.
" Of course not! We always wanted a daughter par hume mile tum" Faiqa ate her breakfast as if she wasn't bombing her son's air castles.
" We had no option but to love you. Ab tumhe wapas toh kar nahi sakhte the. You were a convenient option for a baby" Faiqa sipped on her juice and smirked.
" Mama?" Shahveer looked ready to cry now.
" Hah! In your face!" Azaan put his arm around his wife's chair and smiled proudly at his son's crestfallen face.
Ibtihaaj burst out laughing because she remembers her love confession being something on similar lines.
Oh her poor husband!
" Bade Abbu you also don't love me? Ammi? Chachi? Qaan chachu aap bhi?" Shahveer turned to his other two sets of parents.
" Aww mera baby, Ammi loves you so much" Duaa came around and caressed his hair.
" Fai, stop teasing my little baby" Duaa scolded her sister making her smile sheepishly.
" Aur Azaan Bhai aap, jab isse kindergarten me chot lagi thi tab kaun apni USA ki trip chod kar aaya tha?" She glared at her brother in law too.
These two just love to tease their son.
" I'm not talking to any of them Ammi" he turned towards his parents who were smirking at him.
" Aur tum bhi mujhse baat nahi karna. Tum bhi unki sagi ho. Shohar ki toh koi value hi nahi hai" Shahveer looked pointedly at his wife.
How dare she laugh at him!
" Chalo bohot ho gaye draamey tumhare. Office me Jinn nahi aane wale hai kaam karne. Utho, bade aaye Ammi ke laadley!" Bakhtiyaar twisted his ear and pulled him up from his seat.
" Sab ko dekh lunga main. Chun Chun kar badla liya jayega sabse" Shahveer narrowed his eyes at his family who was doubled over in laughter over his drama.
He smirked at his wife who stopped immediately. She was so in for a punishment tonight!
Shahveer returned home late at night and was met with a heartwarming sight. His son was sleeping on his wife's chest and they both had a similar expression of contentment on their faces.
His Dil ka Sukoon!
He immediately washed up and settled beside the two of them taking His World in his arms. Ibtihaaj woke up from the sudden movement and wrapped her arms tightly around her son lest he fall off.
" Veer, aap kab aaye?" She held Meezaan with one hand and caressed her husband's face with the other. He looked too tired and she felt guilty all over again.
" Rooh, Meezaan meri aulaad hai. Tumne already humare liye bohot kiya hai. I've seen the pain you went through to bring my child in this world. What I face is nothing compared to that" Shahveer kissed her teary eyes.
He knew his Rooh inside out.
" But you didn't get any sleep last night and..." She cried.
" It was only one night Baby. You already take care of him all day and all night. I got up only yesterday aur tum aise behave kar rahi ho jaise meri sadiyo ki neend kharaab hui ho. You're so dramatic I swear!" Shahveer teased his innocent wife.
What will he ever do with her!
" You don't mind?" Ibtihaaj asked him with a pout.
" I do!" He suddenly had a naughty glint in his eyes.
" Abhi toh aapne kaha..." Her husband is very confusing.
" You don't give me attention. Bas saara din mere betey ke peeche padi rehti ho. Betey ke Baap ko bhi pooch liya karo kabhi" Shahveer leaned over and kissed her hot face.
All this while baby Meezaan was soundly asleep on his Mama's bosom.
" Veer, Zaan uth jayega" Ibtihaaj protested when she felt him deepening the kiss.
" Lemme take care of him first" Shahveer picked his little son carefully, put him in the crib and kissed his face.
" Please kuch waqt ke liye uthna nahi mere shehzaade. You had your mother and now I need My Wife. Okay?" Shahveer whispered in his soft hair and covered his small body with a blanket.
He came back to bed and his wife was right where he had left her. She seemed unnaturally beautiful these days. It was the motherhood glow for him that made him fall deeper for his wife.
" You're so beautiful Baby" Shahveer gathered her in his arms and kissed her sweetly. He knew they can't go ahead and he was satisfied with showering her with his affections.
" Really?" Ibtihaaj was unsure of her body.
She hadn't gained back her original figure yet and she had heard that men lose interest in their wives after a baby.
" Really Rooh. Your body looks so delicious that I feel like eating you up" he bit on her chest and nuzzled her.
" I'm fat" she stopped his hand from removing her kameez and voiced her insecurity slowly.
He hasn't seen her yet and they hadn't been intimate in months! What if he feels repulsed by her hideous post pregnancy body?
" Baby look at me" Shahveer cupped her face in his big hands and looked into her glazed over eyes.
" You were pregnant. You gave me a beautiful son and all these changes in your body is proof of the battle you fought to give birth to my child. How can I find any of these battle scars ugly when they are because of me?" He slowly removed her shirt and looked appreciatively at her body.
She wasn't fat but being a twig all her life she felt huge and she had every right to feel the way she did. Just because others have it worse, doesn't invalidate her feelings.
It was now her husband's duty to make her believe that she's beautiful. That he found her even more attractive than he did before.
Shahveer caressed each stretch mark and kissed every tier of fat which only added more beauty to her already ethereal self.
" You nurture my child knowing that it depletes you" he kissed her with reverence.
" You hold him in your protective embrace, shielding him from all harm" he caressed her arms.
" You were so brave " he kissed her belly that nourished and dwelled his baby.
"So beautiful" he kissed her again.
" Your body was home to my heir and I worship you for it" he came up and kissed her lips.
" I loved your body before but now I'm absolutely enthralled with these new changes" he praised.
Shahveer began to withdraw himself from his wife when she pulled him back.
" Don't stop" Ibtihaaj whispered softly in his ears.
" Baby, why do you do this to your poor husband?" Shahveer pouted at her cutely.
" You know we can't go any further" he nibbled her lips playfully making her giggle at his adorable expressions.
" We can" she said shyly.
" You don't have to do this for me. I'm satisfied just by bringing you to your..." Ibtihaaj placed her palms on his lips from saying anymore embarrassing words.
Their baby was in the same room for Allah's sake!
" We can. The doctor said I've healed well" she had her eyes downcast.
" You went without me?" He scolded her.
" Zaan ka vaccination tha aaj toh Mama ke saath gaye they" Ibtihaaj combed back his silken strands.
She loved his hair, it was so lustrous and rich.
" Zaan roya tha?" He was concerned for his little baby.
" Nahi" her eyes glazed over remembering her son's pain at the doctor's syringe puncture on his delicate skin.
" Aur tum?" Shahveer knew his wife's tender heart which bleeds with their son's smallest whimper.
" Thoda sa" she looked down embarrassed.
" That's nothing to be ashamed of Rooh. It proves that you're a good mother. The best mother our children could ever have" Shahveer pecked her lightly.
" Aur kya kaha doctor ne? Tumhare baare mein kuch?" Shahveer caressed her belly knowing that she pained there for a month after giving birth.
" Hum theek hai. Sab tissues heal ho gaye hai" she wound her arms around her husband's waist who was laying on her so lazily.
" Aur?" He wanted to know everything that happened with his wife and son when he was not present with them.
"She said that I'm healthy and that..." Ibtihaaj was shy saying the next words of her doctor.
" And what?" Shahveer was curious seeing her blush.
" She's happy with my husband's self control!" Ibtihaaj said cheekily.
" She is? Good!" Shahveer smiled indulgently at his adorable wife.
" But I am not!" She added with a pout.
" You aren't?" He kissed her neck.
" I told you that we can go further than..." She couldn't spell it out, " and you're more interested in knowing everything else. Next you'll ask me what dress I wore to the appointment!" She cribbed to her husband.
" That's a problem then. I cannot have my wife unhappy with me" Shahveer told her seriously.
" It is. You were a very bad student so you won't remember this adage but thankfully I'm a teacher" Ibtihaaj caressed his taut bronze chest and consoled him.
" What do I not remember?" He smirked at her attempt at humor.
" Happy Wife, Happy Life!" She whispered in his ears like a secret and Shahveer doubled over in laughter.
His wife is so precious.
" I do need me a happy life so I guess I need a happy wife for it. Thank you for sharing this secret. I'll always remember it" Shahveer whispered against her smiling lips.
He spent the night proving himself to be a good student to his scholastic wife!
"Since we'll be gone for a day, I'm leaving a complimentary bowl of advices" Hania stood with her hands on her hips and stared at all the Hamdaani men and their brats.
" For instance, ' Boys Stop Doing That ' just applies to everything. Understood?" Ibtihaaj issued her own command to all the somber looking men, especially her naughty husband. It's him she's worried about the most!
" Okay!" They answered in unison.
" I know I'm going to regret this but I seriously need a break" Ibtihaaj rubbed her forehead and mumbled.
It was a Sunday and all the ladies had decided on a Spa Day leaving the kids behind with the boys. The fathers were driving them to the Country Club Spa and they would enjoy a round of golf whilst the ladies pamper themselves.
Leaving the boys in charge was the worst decision they could ever make but what the hell right?
" Emergency contacts are on the fridge and there's food inside it" Qiraat told her husband.
" Snacks are in the cabinet above the oven and the fire extinguisher beside it" Faiqa told the twins and turned towards Musa when she explained about the crucial life saving apparatus.
The twins and Shahveer would forget every important detail as soon as they're left alone with their kids and food. They're relying on Musa and Bakhtiyaar to hold the fort in their absence.
" Any questions?" Duaa asked them seriously.
The dumbheads just shook their heads eager for them to leave so that their fun could begin!
" Okay!" Aamaal sighed but recited the AyatulKursi thrice and blew it over the boys and the little ones.
" Leave Mama! How will you come back sooner if you don't even go!" Zohaib said exasperated to his mother.
For Allah's sake they were well into their twenties and three of them are fathers, not to forget the Agyakaari and Sanskaari betey are with them too!
They were overreacting, the lot of them.
Were they really?
It was seven months later and Meezaan was a healthy ten months old baby now who walks with support but is an excellent crawler.
You want that sock from under the dining table, Meezaan is your guy!
Ibtihaaj loves her boys but she needed a day out with her sisters and mothers. The house was too testosterone packed!
" It's a tie between the and And both the teams have decided to send a player each for a final match off..." A voice rang out in the lounge which was temporarily converted into a fighting rink.
The floor was covered with cushions and the disco lights were on for the full effect.
Behroz made his player sit on the stool and gave her a carton of pomegranate juice, her favorite, wiped her face and just stared in her eyes.
" I know chachu. I got this!" Ilhaam placed a hand on Behroz's shoulder and assured him like a seasoned warrior.
