Emily
I watch when my so-called-family walks out the door, irritated expressions on their faces and I feel proud. Finally after everything that happened I could say what I wanted to say for years: they can go to hell!
"So..." Enzo says when the room is silences, getting everyone's attention. "That went well"
"Don't cheer too early, they still have two days; in two days a lot can happen" Mateo relies and watches me with his bright yet dark eyes. "Now we're here, we can discuss the divorce" I nod and sit where my uncle sat just a few minutes ago and I stare into Mateo's eyes as well, seeing the hurts and betray; it hurts me. My stomach does a little double flip but I hold it in, not wanting to expose I'm pregnant. "Are you alright?" he asks, his eyes furrowed.
"Yes" I answer shortly. "So the divorce..." Mateo nods and starts to speak.
"Look, I don't want to make a bog scene about this so just tell me what you want and then we can leave each other alone" I think for a moment; what do I want? I don't need anything. My bank account is stuffed with the money he gave me; I can easily buy a house for me and the baby...
"I don't want anything from you, Mateo..." he nods. "What do you want?" I asks, curiosity taking the better of me.
"What I want Emily is something I can't take back" he gives me a knowing look and I can only imagine what he wants; me.
"Maybe something else?" I play with my fingers, not meeting his gaze.
"Maybe we can be..." he stops there and I think he's about to continue but he doesn't so I speak for him.
"...Be friends?" I suggest.
"Do you want that?" he asks, uncertainty in his voice, something I'm not use to; normally he's so cocky and sure about himself but now...now he has his guard down just for me.
"Maybe...We can try to be friends..." I've got a feeling I'm going to regret this later but for now, this is the best; you don't want a mafia-family to be your enemy, right? Mateo lets out a small sigh, a grin forming on his handsome face and my stomach clenches; I want him, so bad but I can't, it's killing me.

"Sorry to interrupt your beautiful stare competition" Enzo says and I'm so happy he did because stating into his familiar eyes made me mad; how can Mateo make me feel this? Mad and love at the same time; it's so confusing! "But I want to give you this Emily" he takes out a bundle of paper with in giant letters 'Divorce paper' on top. "You can read this and sign at the bottom" I take it and see Mateo already sign them and that makes me sad for some reason; he really want this, huh?
"Thank you" I reply and suddenly something come up. "What's going to happen with Lucy?" I ask Mateo, his poker face back on.
"I put a hold on the adoption" I let out a little gasp. "I'll look what I can do but I can't take care of a teenage girl alone, I don't have the time"
"Like you ever had time for us in the first place" I whisper angrily.
"Look, I'm sorry for everything in the past but you need to understand that it's not easy to rule an empire and at the same time take care of a family; I'm not really family material, you know that" I do; that's why I can't let you know about the baby he and I are going to have because I'm not scared how he will react towards it, I'm scared how you will treat it...I don't want my child to grow up like a successor of a mafia-group, I want the child to have a normal life...something I wished Mateo grew up with so he at least understood the word normal...
I'm standing in the lobby, waiting for Bella to pick me up when I spot a familiar figure making its way towards me.
"Ben?" I ask and he smiles. "What are you doing here?" he gives me a hug and I give one back, relieved to see him again.
"I'm here to pick you" he releases me. "Bella texted me that something came up so here I am, your knight in shining armor" I giggle and he holds his hand out and I take it. He leads me to the front where I spot Mateo leaning against his car, watching us. "Everything alright?" Ben asks and when I don't answer he follows my gaze. "Oh...do you want to go to him or-"

"-No, thanks!" I say a little too loud and now he's the one chuckling.
"Alright then, let's go to Bella"
After 5 minutes I break the awkward silence.
"So, how have you been doing, Ben?"
"Great, in a few weeks I'm official a doctor and not an interim"
"Really, I'm so happy!" I give his arm and playful swat.
"Aw, that hurts" he says playfully and gives me a small side-eyed glance.
"What?" I ask and feel my cheeks reddening; Ben makes me nervous...not like Mateo does of course but its close.
"I'm just mad at myself why I never notice you before" he replies and focuses on the road in front of us.
"Stephanie is always the person who gets the attention" I whisper and he snorts.
"She does but it gets old soon, believe me" Ben sighs. "It's just...You changed, but in a good way of course and for some reason I kind of feel attracted to you" he says honestly and it gets me off guard.
"What?"
"It's a lot to take in, I know, I'm straight-forward but it's the truth..." we stop at Bella's house and he turns so out faces are a lined. "I'm interested in you so maybe if you're too we can, I don't know, go on a date or something..." his cheeks redden and it's cute; Ben means well but I don't know if I should take the offer.
"Ben, I..." taking a deep breath I continue. "I don't know what to say but I can't do it now, I mean...I just got divorce; I think you already guessed that" he nods; it's not difficult to see, it's so obvious. "I first need to deal with the divorce and maybe after that we can try but I don't promise anything" his eyes turn sad.
"Alright, I can wait"
Bella comes home a few hours later.
"Hey, Em, you home?"
"I'm in the kitchen!" I yell back and she storms inside when she smells the cake I baked.
"This smells delicious!" Bella makes an attempt to take a piece but I swat her hands away.
"Not now, wait until it's cooled off" I say and she gives me her pouty face but it won't work this time.
"Alright..." she sighs. "So how was the event?" she asks and I tell her everything; not only what happened with Mateo but also the part with Ben and how he wanted to asks me out. "Wow..."
"I know...what do I need to do?" I take a sip of my tea and take for us both a piece from the chocolate cake; with the pregnancy I love to eat sweet stuff. Bella had to buy for me some extra candy because I kept eating hers.
"What you said to Ben was good, he was going a little too fast but he's interested! Didn't you had a crush on him!?"
"You said is right, had, I'm over him" Bella looks sad.
"Alright but at least someone is waiting for you" I nod.
"I know, Bells..."
"Oh!" she says startling me. "I arranged it"
"You did?" I ask her, hope filling my chest.
"She can come any minutes now" as if on cue the doorbell rings and Bella makes her way down, opening the door. "Here she is!" a petit woman covered in tattoo makes her way inside the tiny apartment, a bored expression on her face.
"So, when can I take the ultrasound for the baby?" she asks and I feel exited to see my baby for the first time...

A look so completely different than any of the ones I saw the other day. Then our eyes meet, and his smirk drops. He drops his hands that were just held high in victory and looks at me like he's seeing a ghost. The guard pulls harder on my arm and I go flying back into his chest. "Listen here, I don't want to manhandle you, so do as I fucking say. Move." He growls as he pushes me into the crowd of celebrating people.I do what he says and start walking towards the exit, but I look over my shoulder one last time before I'm too far in the crowd to see anything. Blake's hands are fisted by his side and his face is red with anger, his eyes are focused on the hands that are on me pushing me away from him.----- I am the original owner of this book, please do not copy.
