"They took Jae-eun."
At the sound of those three words, it's like my whole world fell apart. What did she did to get into this? Was it still money?
I didn't speak, I didn't move. I just started at the wall in front of me, my eye lids constantly fluttering. What was I to do?
This was the last thing I wanted to happen, but I couldn't even protect her. I was so selfish to keep it a secret from her, I should've at least told her to be careful. Even if it got her confused. Maybe she would've taken more precautions. No, maybe I should've been with her more to make sure nothing happened.
Like that would change anything.
I have failed as a best friend. I've lied and it backfired.
"I want in." I suddenly spoke.
Heads turned, eyes widened. "What do you mean?" Taehyung spoke up.
"I want in on whatever you're going to do. I want in." I repeated.
"Y/N, Y-" I interrupted Jungkook before he could say anything.
"It wasn't a question, Jungkook." I bit out. He looked taken back, but I continued. "Jae-eun has been my best friend since we were young. I know her more than every single one of you know her individually—combined." I said.
"I can't let you do that." A cold voice said. I turned my head, finding Namjoon shaking his head.
"Whether you let me go with you or not, I will find a way. With or without you." I spat. Of course, I was being harsh—but this is my best friend we were talking about. Not some random 18 year old I don't even know.
Namjoon sighed before nodding his head. "Fine. There's one condition, though." Of course there is. "You follow our plan, our rules. Don't do shit that will get you killed, and you have to trust us." He said, making it very clear. "Understood?" He asked.

I nodded. I looked over, finding that Jungkook had a genuinely worried expression on his face. He was worried that I would get hurt.
In the end, they decided to use me as bait. I would go in first, clear the coast and find Jae-eun. I wasn't alone, though. If things went sideways, Jungkook would be right behind me while the rest were all around the perimeter.
Namjoon talked over the plan to Jungkook and I just to make sure that we really had to down. I remembered where I would go if things went wrong and what to say if I needed help. We didn't have many resources to use, since we've only been to the warehouse once. So we were only able to use what we saw the last time. We made the best of it, though.
Since we will be saying many things over the comm, Jungkook and I made a code word to call when I needed backup.
Euphoria.
"Yoongi and I have loaded up the truck, Namjoon. We will need to leave as soon as we can before something major might happen." Hoseok said.
Once we got to the warehouse, bad memories rushed into my head.
Beside my silent sobbing, I look up and see Taehyung, with a gun in his hands and pointed to the boss.
If anything, the only person coming out alive today would be Taehyung, and possibly me.
"I'll shoot!" Taehyung yelled.
I felt the knife dig into my skin even deeper as I start to squirm in pain.
The warmth of red coming from my neck dropped onto my shirt, making a pool of blood visible.
Blood.
I shook my head to get rid of them. Today is not the day. I need to focus on the task at hand. This time, I am well more equipped.

Yoongi threw me a pistol and I placed it onto my belt, making sure that it would be accessible at any point.
"Ready?" Taehyung asked.
"Go big or go home." I sighed out, cracking a smile.
Jungkook stayed quiet. He looked like he was deep in his thoughts, but he was shook out of it as Jimin nudged his arm. "Good luck, Y/N." He gave me a closed tight lipped smile, but it didn't reach his eyes—it didn't even seem to reach his lips.
Jimin places a comm into my ear, making sure it was secure and that it wouldn't fall out. Jin walked up to me, reassuring me that it would be okay and that we would get her back. He also kept repeating the code word, making sure it would be stuck in my mind.
Euphoria

Euphoria.
"Alright, like what happened last time to Y/N, Jae-eun should be in the basement. We won't need to worry too much about the security inside of the warehouse itself, but in the basement. Just incase, have your hand somewhere near your holster just incase you need to draw it." Namjoon informed, and I nodded.
"Oh, and fighting!" He encouraged, giving me a smile as his dimples deepened.
I nodded my head before everyone scattered off to their positions while Jungkook stayed close behind me.
I turned around and faced him, wanting to give peace to Jungkook. "I am ready for this, I was trained to do this, Jungkook. Bangtan taught me, you taught me. Don't doubt me now."
"I know, I know... I'm just," he paused, "I'm worried that something will go wrong, that something unplanned will happen. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I don't want you to go through that when you've only been training for a month."
"Are you doubting my skills right now, Jeon Jungkook? Right when things are about to get real?"
His eyes widened, "No, of course not." He responded. I smiled, I liked to tease him. But I was doubtful, too. Am I really ready to face this? What if something goes wrong?
I took a deep breath, putting on a face of confidence. I will not go down today. If I go down, I will put up a hell of a fight. But I need to be ready for what is about to come.
"I assure you, I'll be okay." I smiled, cupping his face.
No bad thoughts.
It seemed to relieve him a bit, but he didn't seem fully convinced, hell, I wouldn't be either. I reached up on my tippy-toes and pecked his nose.
"Okay, quit the lovey-doveyness, can we continue?" Yoongi groaned over the comm.
Jungkook chuckled and nodded, but his smile vanished immediately when I slowly turned back to him to face the door, slowly walking towards it.
I placed my hand on the door knob, twisting it slowly, making sure no sound would be made in the process. It quietly clicked open.
Success.
I placed one hand on my holster as I walked in slowly, checking my surroundings.
"Congratulations!" I heard a too-familiar voice yell out.
Jae-eun.

Shadows in the Dawn Mist
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] - Winner November 2020 When a young woman is lured back to her homeland for the opportunity of a life time, she must face old fears. But never would she think that facing up to her past would change everything. Is History written by the victors, or by someone or something else...? *** I started writing this a few years ago and eventually fell out of love with it. I never finished it and my newer books are being written in different writing style, and genre with a more planned process. I decided to revisit it for the writathon and found that it wasn't as hopeless as I'd come to think. Hopefully, I've improved as a writer since them so the consistency may vary. Its been good to revisit and analyse my writing which I feel used to have some clunky and obvious dialogue which I'm trying to fix. This will always be my first novel and I hope, with a little exposure, I may come to like it again. Thanks for reading!
