《Undeniably Wanted》Chapter 34: Confusion

-Heather's POV
"Dad have you seen Angel?"
I open my eyes to see that I am still enveloped by Xavier's tall frame hiding me from Luca's view. I turn my body which causes Xavier to stir and his eyes begin fluttering open. His beautiful blue eyes lock with mine and a soft smile begins stretching over his face.
"Dad"
Xavier quickly turns over looking back at Luca who finally notices me. His smile stretches across his face making my own smile appear. He quickly runs over to the bed and climbs in. I sit up and stretch out my arms while he lunges into them burying his face in my chest. I giggle but Xavier clears his throat and I look down where he is looking and notice that I was only wearing my white lace bra. I feel my blush run up the side of my face causing me to probably resemble a tomato. I hear chuckling and fingers tilt up my chin.
"Don't be embarrassed sweetheart, you are absolutely stunning." He whispers in my ear before kissing the side of my head gently. I sigh and run fingers through Luca's hair while he is still wrapped around me. I smile and relax in their embrace.
"Momma, what are you wearing?"
Both Xavier and I giggle while he shakes his head gently. I look down at the bright blue eyes that mirror his dads. I kiss his crown making him grin. I begin raining kisses on him making him laugh. Xavier joins in and we are all just laughing cuddling on his bed together. My heart soars hearing the laughter dance on my ears. The man beside me making me feel safe and cared for. The little boy who looks at me with so much love.
Knock Knock
All of us abruptly look up towards the door while Leo walks in slightly bowing. His eyes go wide before they begin to light up. Xavier abruptly places himself in front of me while I pull the sheet up around my chest. A grin worthy smile crosses his face causing me to smile back at him. He wanted to let us know that Cami has come back. I thanked him before he left while Luca scrambles off the bed running towards the door following him. We giggle watching him get excited. I guess he must liked his time with Cami yesterday.
"I guess your friend had an impact on my son as well." Xavier gazes turns back at me and I just smirk. He leans and kisses me making me feel a knot form in my stomach. God his lips are so addicting. He groans and pulls back. I give him a confused look before I notice his excitement beginning to show through the blanket. I blush and try to hide my redden cheeks.

"The effect you have on me..." He mumbles before getting up off the bed walking towards his closet. I resist staring at his backside even knowing it was quite tempting. He comes back out in gray sweatpants and a white tank top. Damn it! How does he look like a Calvin Klein in everything?!? I shake my head and begin standing up stretching out my body. I look back to see Xavier staring at me as if he could devour me. He begins walking over to me as I quickly pick up my sweater off the ground throwing it back on. I pull it down as his arms encircle my waist. "How do you feel sweetheart?"
"Better than I have in a very long time." I speak truthfully and see him give me his million dollar smile making me want to swoon. He pecks my lips and then interlocks are hands as he pulls me towards the door. I giggle and follow behind him smiling like a damn fool.
"Momma look- Aunt Cami brought me a dart gun!" Luca says jumping around as my friend sits on the couch sipping tea. I shake my head giggling while walking over to her. Xavier sitting on my other side with his arm on the back of the couch behind me. I kiss Cami's cheek and she winks at me.
"I brought fresh clothes for you H."
"Thank you Cam!" I pull her into a hug.
"H, um there is something I need to talk to you about." She whispers in my ear. I pull back raising an eyebrow and I notice a look in her eyes that causes me to worry... fear. I nod my head and pull her up. Xavier gives me a confused look which I give him a small smile trying to reassure him. I walk her to the back porch and sit down at the table. She begins fidgeting in her seat making me more anxious.
"H, it's important before I say this that you understand I am here for you. Okay?"
-Xavier's POV
I look into our living room to see Heather's friend sitting while Luca plays with a toy. It must be something Cami brought him. I walk over and sit down next to my sweetheart with her friend on her other side. I look to see that Luca has a dart gun. I smile but it quickly drops when I notice Heather standing up pulling her friend behind her. She gives me a smile that I can tell is forced. I follow her gaze as they go towards the backdoor. I begin to stand up but before I could Tessa walks in.

"Sir, your parent's just arrived." I nod but look over her shoulder to get a view of my sweetheart. I can tell it's a serious conversation but I can only see the side of their faces and Cami holding hands tightly with Heather. I feel Luca run up to my legs and hug them from behind. I turn my attention towards him as I see an emotion flash across his face for a minute before he puts on his blank expression.
"There's my boy!"
I look up to see my mom walking briskly towards me with open arms. I embrace her but can't get my mind off of the ladies sitting outside. She continues to hold me tightly while I feel Luca hold me slightly tighter. She then looks down noticing him behind me. She bends down attempts to pull him in for a hug which he quickly pulls back shaking his head. I see my mom look disappointed but doesn't say anything further. She stands back up and walks over to my father's side who I give a curt nod to. He returns it then glances at Luca before walking past us to sit on the couch.
"Dad, can I go see mom?" I give Luca a small smile before leaning down to him.
"I think she needs some time outside. How bout we go see your grandparents." His face falls but he nods none the less. We go in and sit down across from my parents. My mother beams at us as my father appears to be studying me. "How have you both been?"
"Oh wonderful dear, your dad and me just got back from Japan. It's beautiful there!" She smiles while my dad still looks towards Luca making me look down at my son. I then realized that he is looking behind my parents. I know he is looking for when Heather walks back in. I pull him more towards my side as my mother continues to tell me about her ventures. I continue to make polite conversation with my parents for about ten minutes before the backdoor opens. Luca jumps off his seat and races towards the door. My parents follow him confused before standing up from the couch to turn around. I watch as Heather walks in with red eyes with Luca in her arms. I abruptly stand up to go to her as Cami stands to the side.
"I'm sorry to interrupt, I didn't realize you had company..." Heather looks at my parents and then back to me. She continues to rub Luca's back while his arms are locked around her and his faced buried in her neck.
"Sweetheart, what is wrong?" I ask going right up to her. She blinks a few times and puts on a polite smile for my parents. She just shakes her head. While her hand begins to tremble slightly. I begin to worry. What has happened? I am about to pull her into a hug but before I could she takes a small step back.
"Lil Man, I need to leave but I will be back soon. You be good for you father and when I get back, we will make some pancakes... How does that sound?"
Luca pulls his head out of Heather's neck and drops his head nodding before he looks over to Cami. He whispers "Can Aunt Cami come back as well?"
Cami chuckles slightly and comes over to her side. She messes with Luca's hair before he lunges for her. I keep my focus on Heather whose eyes are swirling with many emotions however her trembling hands give away what she is feeling most... fear.
"I apologize for my intrusion and if you will excuse me." She begins to walk away but I quickly snatch her hand pulling her back.
"Sweetheart..." I look into her eyes and I can see the tears welling up making me more frustrated. She shakes her head and kisses my cheek.
"I will call you in a little bit." She whispers hoarsely in my ear before putting on a fake smile and nodding at my parents. She walks over to Cami who puts Luca down after kissing his forehead. Cami gives me a small wave and walks out with Heather leaving me confused and upset. Why did she leave? What made her so scared? Should I have made her stay??
Ahem
Someone clears their throat. I turn to look at my parents who looked confused.
Oh great!

On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016. Originally a three-part in medias res prologue to a larger story titled On the Elsparian Road, it was eventually decided that this section - which covers Neianne's three years at Faulkren Academy - become its own independent story due to length, structural, and accessibility reasons. Despite this being a reader interactive work of fiction, due to logistical and verification concerns, voting will only be counted on its thread on the forum Sufficient Velocity, where this story originally began. As such, the content here on Royal Road serves as a story-only archive. You are, of course, entirely welcome to enjoy On the Road to Elspar as a conventional work of fiction, just as you are welcome to comment, discuss, and provide critique. But if you would like to participate in the voting, then I would be honored to welcome you on Sufficient Velocity. To facilitate accessibility and to ensure the best reading experience, this story-only version of On the Road to Elspar will be updated at a periodic pace, even though further content exists, so as to not overwhelm new readers on Royal Road. If you enjoy this story, wish to binge it, and/or want to participate in voting immediately, you may of course read all additional content via the link provided above. This paragraph will be removed once the content on Royal Road catches up with what has already been posted in its original thread. Cover artwork by DreamSyndd.

It started with flashes of light appearing from nowhere, quickly escalating into his whole world becoming an absolute mess of flickering pixels and chaotic color flows, as if reality had become a malfunctioning glitched screen. What he could recognize as numbers, letters, and strange symbols flew everywhere around him, obviously trying to form a coherent whole to be displayed before his eyes, but such attempts kept failing, again and again. Accompanying the end of this unique show, 2 things happened. First, knowledge had spontaneously appeared in his mind and he could perfectly understand it, as if it had always been there, just inaccessible.
