《Worlds: The Beginning!》Chapter 8: The strongest sect of all!

Xiao Feng felt a comfortable pillow under his head, a comfortable bed under his body and a comfortable blanket over his body. He opened his eyes and saw a white ceiling. Then, he heard the sound of a door opening and looking towards it, he saw Qin Se standing in a daze on the other side of the door.
Xiao Feng rose and sat down on the bed cross-legged. The blanket fell off him.
“Young master!” Qin Se shouted out and ran through the opened door to Xiao Feng. “How are you feeling, young master? Are you okay?” he hurriedly said, but just as his last world left his mouth, Xiao Feng’s stomach loudly grumbled. So loudly that it was as if it wasn’t a human’s stomach that grumbled or even a beast’s. “I will go get food for you this instant, young master. I will also inform the madam that you are awake. Now if you’ll excuse me, young master.”
“What about my older sister?” Xiao Feng thought and said, “You are only going to tell my mother that I am awake? You aren’t going to tell my older sister?”
“I would like to, young master,” Qin Se said. “But I can’t as she is no longer in the Xiao family estate. She has returned to the transcendent academy.”
“Transcendent academy?” Xiao Feng said and his stomach grumbled again.
“Young master,” Qin Se said. “You have been unconscious for the last two months. We will talk once you have eaten.”
“Hmm?” Xiao Feng said and thought, “I have been unconscious for two months? So I am six now? I can become a cultivator?” He smiled from ear to ear and and said, “How do I become a cultivator?”

“Please eat first, young master,” Qin Se said. “I will tell you afterwards.”
Xiao Feng shook his head. “No! Tell me now! How do I become a cultivator?”
Qin Se sighed out. “Okay, young master. I will tell you. First, you have to enter one of the many sects. And second, you have to reach the first stage of the body refinement realm. Once you have done these two things, you will be a cultivator. The transcendent academy that the young lady returned to is one of those sects. It calls itself an academy because it’s not only a sect but also a great pack and an order.”
“A great pack? An order?” Xiao Feng said.
“A great pack is basically a sect for magical beasts and an order is basically a sect for tyrannical beasts,” Qin Se said.
“Magical beasts? Tyrannical beasts?” Xiao Feng said.
“Magical beasts are similar to beasts in appearance. But they are much more powerful than beasts and much more intelligent than beasts. They can also talk. Tyrannical beasts, on the other hand, are a mix between a human and a beast. They are as intelligent as humans and as powerful as beasts. Is there anything else you want to know, young master?” Qin Se said.
“Yes,” Xiao Feng said. “Which sect is the strongest sect of all?”
“The strongest sect of all is the peerless sect. The strongest great pack of all is the rising dragon pack. And the strongest order of all is the chaos order. The second strongest sect, the second strongest great pack and the second strongest order is the transcendent academy.”
“Why is big sister in the second strongest sect and not in the strongest sect?” Xiao Feng said.

“That’s because my master, young lady’s and your father – Xiao Fang, forbade her from entering it,” Qin Se said, looked down at the ground and closed his eyes. “Three months ago, no one forbade young master – Xiao Zhao from entering the peerless sect.” He opened his eyes, looked up at Xiao Feng and after a short pause said, “He died in one of the entrance trials of the peerless sect.”
“I see,” Xiao Feng said and his stomach grumbled. This time it was louder than the last two times. “I am hungry,” he thought and said, “Qin Se. Go make me some food.”
“Yes, young master,” Qin Se said and walked out of the room with a hastened step.
Xiao Feng closed his eyes. “Which sect should I join?” he thought. “The sect where my sister is or the strongest sect of all? I want to be with my sister, but I want to be the strongest even more. And how can I be the strongest in the second strongest sect? I will join the strongest sect of all, the peerless sect!”
When Qin Se returned to Xiao Feng’s room with food, Xiao Feng ate it, but he still felt hungry and so he asked for more. To his request, Qin Se said – “Okay, young master.”, and left the room. This happened not once or twice but ten times.
“Qin Se, bring me to my mother,” Xiao Feng said. “I want to talk to her.”
“Okay, young master,” Qin Se said and led Xiao Feng to Xi Huiliang’s room. Reaching it, he knocked on the door.
“Who is it?” Xi Huiliang’s voice sounded from the room.
“Young master wishes to talk to you, madam,” Qin Se said.
“Come in,” Xi Huiliang’s said.
Qin Se opened the door and when Xiao Feng entered it, he closed it and his eyes.
Xi Huiliang smiled. “What is it you wanted to talk about, Feng’er?”
“I want to join a sect,” Xiao Feng said.
Xi Huiliang nodded her head. “That’s fine. Which sect do you want to join?”
“I want to join the strongest sect,” Xiao Feng said. “And so, I will join the peerless sect.”
Xi Huiliang frowned. “No,” she said as she shook her head. “You can’t join the peerless sect. I won’t lose another son.”
“I wasn’t asking for your permission, mother,” Xiao Feng said. “I was informing you of my decision.”
Xi Huiliang turned around and closed her eyes. “Go then.”
Xiao Feng nodded his head. He walked out of the room and looked at Qin Se. “Where do I have to go to take peerless sect’s entrance trials?”
“We go to Eden,” Qin Se said.

Sorcery in Boston
The timid daughter of some of the greatest spellcasters ever to have lived has found herself in another world, courtesy of magic gone awry. In Boston, Massachusetts, in the year 1935, she finds some kind souls in a hard era. In the heart of the Great Depression, as war looms around the corner, she seeks to find her place, and must come to terms with both who she is and what she truly desires. Author's Notes: Release Note: I recently realized what the hold up is. My current mental state is not compatible with the planned ending. If I wrote the ending according to what currently feels right, it will be a wretched, cruel ending that feels monstrously unfair and invalidates the work of the various characters... because that's how my life feels at the moment. The planned ending is coming out hollow and awkward, no matter how I write it, and so I've been bashing my head. I will finish it, once I manage to either brute force something decent out, or once my head gets screwed on straight. Audience: This story is not for young children - it contains some profanity, sexual content, violence, gore, and significant adult themes. Most of these are handled delicately enough not to upset teens or adults (hopefully), hence the lack of relevant tags, but it is nonetheless unsuitable for youth. It's fairly slow paced, and focused on the development of very human, very flawed individuals. Length / Completion Estimates: The outline currently involves two books. Book 1 is expected to be done with Chapter 43. It'll probably be completely finished by sometime in March of this year. I expect to move on to the far-more-lighthearted Of Gods and Dungeons (currently in progress / on hiatus). Afterwards, I may decide to redo Book 1, or write Book 2, or actually start sharing the story most dear to me, that I've been working on for several years now. Draft 1: Please be aware that this is first draft material. I do intend to come back to do a second draft after the story is complete. If anyone notices any issues whatsoever with the story, please let me know (pm, etc) so that I can improve the second draft. Writer's Pledge: I've taken the Writer's Pledge, meaning I'm commiting to completing this story. I'm a proud member of WriTE, a group dedicated to finishing stories. It will be done! Behind the Scenes notes: This picture was commissioned from an inked artist by the name of DanP. Up until the time of the protagonist's arrival, history has proceeded as before. Some places and characters have been borrowed from wikipedia entries of interesting figures from the time. I will make note in the chapter comments when such things come up. Naturally, I've taken a great deal of liberty with them. In interest of respecting individuals, I've either attempted to portray them as accurately as possible, or modified them sufficiently enough that they're simply an inspiration, instead of a real portrayal. I've attempted to be as accurate to the era as possible, but I'm not a historian. If you're aware of inaccuracies, please, bring them to my attention so that I can correct them.

Saga of Fallen Kings, Book I: The Revenant Prince
The Philosopher King once conquered the known world, his power seemingly unlimited and his armies inexhaustible. Since that time his might has slowly unravelled, and his once steadfast empire has begun to crack, splinter and devour itself. In the isolated Southern Realms, where even magic has abandoned them, none of that matters. For years it has been filled with warring kingdoms, where as many kings die to the blade as to old age, and constant battles tear apart the land. When one such kingdom invades its old enemy, the King and his heir, Prince Caden, are killed. Unable to accept the loss of his family Prince Arian is broken, and when the Philosopher King stretches out his hand in aid, Arian takes it without a second thought. When Caden wakes from death, he's different. His eyes and soul have changed, and he finds a world filled with friends who no longer trust he's even human. Suddenly thrust onto the throne and indebted to the Philosopher King, Caden has no choice but to keep going - he must finish what his father started, and try to survive the machinations of the figure who now owns his fealty. Meanwhile something beyond death stirs for him, desiring nothing more than to drag him back into its embrace. Author's Note: This story used to be known as "A King of his Own", but after some consideration I have decided to rebrand it. The first reason is that I was growing increasingly dissatisfied with the title. The second is that I have come increasingly to view this story as a 'saga' containing multiple 'books' rather than one long, continuous publication, and as I did so I realized that as I was quickly getting to a point in the story where I wanted the first 'book' to end. This doesn't mean I'm going back on the things I said below - they're just going to continue in the next book of the Saga of Fallen Kings. :) Also, be aware that I do plan to edit this at some point. Though I take care to squash out any obvious errors when I proof-read, and do simple edits in that process, at some point I'm almost certainly going to do large edits that might significantly change parts of the story. Old author's notes: This started as a completely random writing session. There was no purpose or direction, but as I kept typing an entire world began to form in my mind that I knew I had to write about. My plan is to turn this story into a veritable medieval fantasy epic that spans an entire world, follows multiple character and storylines, and takes place over many years. The story has quite a grounded, almost 'realistic' start, but many more fantastical elements will be introduced, expanded upon and become central to the narrative. I have ideas for this story that make me genuinely excited and I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy writing it, and join me on what will hopefully become a truly massive fantasy epic. If you do enjoy this story please consider following, rating and leaving a review. I'm also happy to answer any questions or comments you have.
