Mirik's POV-
The trust built up until now was instantly broken. I created some distance between us and tried to move into the crowded area.
"Mirik you can't run away in this city. We are a tightly knit community here. Everyone knows everyone, and although the majority of people have no problems with outsiders the families that control the city hate outsiders. There is no way you can run out of this city. So heed my advice and I will personally escort you out of the city." Bala said in an assuring tone but I became even more alert.
"And give you the chain in return? So the chain swayed you huh?" I said in a painful tone. When I thought I had made a friend, he instantaneously betray me. What a fool I was for thinking this village was a good place.
"Why would I want your chain? Your chain is the sole reason I am asking you to run, leave this place. You will be in grave danger because of that chain." Bala confused me with this. Maybe he was lying right now and would switch again like last time. I glared at him, that was all I could do. If they wanted to kill or capture me I would be helpless.
"You need to leave Mirik, that chain will bring misfortune to anyone that wears it. Believe me, I'm yo- " Bala was cut in the middle of his sentence by an elder's voice.
"Ohh...So you are the new arrival in the city? Good...And I have also heard something interesting from Kiara here." the old man who arrived presumably the chief said with an amiable smile. Kiara standing behind the old man with restlessness coming through her eyes.
"Chief I have found out that the boy here arrived by accident. So I would like to escort him out. So if you don't mind we should get moving." Bala told the chief while facing me. He was gesturing for me to keep shut and follow him.

"Oh, no need. He is our guest, we should give him the best we can as the host. And then shouldn't he have a talk with you and Kiara. I think it's the first time that he is meeting his uncle's children. Isn't that right Mirik...Diman." Chief said with a poker face but I could feel his anger when he said my name. And Bala, Kiara .....they are uncle's children. I didn't know what to do now. I was happy that I met them but sad at the same time that I bought the news of their father's death.
"I have to tell you guys something," I told Bala in his ear. He looked back at me with a look that said now is not the time.
"Before we go any further, why don't you return that chain to us, the rightful owners," Kiara said while walking towards me. She came with an attitude that looked like she wanted to fight. But was stopped by Bala.
"Kiara, behave yourself," Bala warned his sister. He was not joking when he said that.
"You are going to fight your sister for this guy," Kiara said with a shock on her face.
"What do you think?" Bala said releasing his aura like that of a mountain suffocating everyone. Even the curious spectators were caught in the crossfire. But then suddenly another aura was released, stronger than Bala's.
"Bala as the oldest brother here shouldn't you let the younger ones have a private talk." the old chief who looked like a skeleton said while releasing his aura. Bala just squinted but was unable to do anything against the chief.
Now that there was no one restricting her, Kiara made her way toward me.
"So, will you give me the chain or do I need to take it from you," Kiara asked me cracking her knuckles.

But it was different this time. I was not angry at all with her behavior, she acted like me. Looks like we are from the same family. I was calm for the first time in my life. Logically the chain belongs to them, but seeing Bala's behavior it was best if I don't give the chain.
"I will have to decline your humble offer...Sis." I said cheekily. She didn't like my remark and took the spear from her back.
"Then fight me," she announced.
I guess there is no other way around this. I gladly welcomed her challenge.

Lone: The Wanderer [Rewrite]
Nine-to-five. The daily grind. Life. Painful years of school. Working as a slave for some undeserving corporate big-wig. The monotonous life of unemployment. We all experience this in one way or another, and we can all conclude one thing: it's dull. Such a fact rings true even for the fabled Lone Immortus, a powerful nine-tailed Golden Foxkin. However, what would you do if your monotony was suddenly ground to a halt and you were thrown out of your comfort zone along with a young girl forgotten by time? Perhaps you might have done things differently, been more organised, immediately died, gained control of the world in a matter of days, but this is Lone's tale, not yours. Watching two insecure people struggle to survive and find their place in an unfamiliar land just might be enjoyable to witness. Who knows? One thing's for certain: it won't be an easy path for them to tread, and what could possibly be more entertaining than watching people endure hardships and grow? I know of at least eight gods that would answer with, 'Absolutely nothing.' I wonder, after seeing this journey from start to finish, how would you answer? [Goal of 1 chapter per week, the only exceptions being announced breaks or emergencies] The cover art is courtesy of the very kind and talented ssddx. This novel is a participant in The Writer's Pledge
