Mirik's POV-

I walked down the road leading to my home. It was a medium-sized apartment mostly empty. I moved in here not long ago after my fallout with my uncle. My parents lived back in the hometown of our family for generations. They sent me to the big city when I was small hoping that I would become a man they could be proud of.

And here I am, with my clothes soaked in the blood of some other human. What a disappointment I am. Now my only family member here was also dead and I might be the reason behind it. I started remembering the times I used to spend with that old man. Just s thought of him put a smile on my face. It was good in the past, wasn't it?

................

"Mirik, come here I will teach you how to play chess. I used to be a national player you know." Raja, my uncle said out loud with pride. I was a child back then. Not more than eight years old.

"Is it fun?" I asked innocently. I revered the man in front of me. He taught me things in a week that would have never learned in my hometown.

"Not everything needs to be fun Mirik. I have a philosophy, learn everything you can. It might come in handy sometime in your life. Do you gt what I'm saying?" he asked while setting up the board. I nodded my head.

After an hour of playing and teaching me how to play, he asked me to play a match with him. This was the best part...

"You...scoundrel. How can you think of those moves when I just taught you how to play not long ago," he asked while rubbing his head.

"I just thought it might work," I said with a bright smile. He shook his head and smiled like a sage.

"Your imagination is really scary. Haaah you can even beat me, the best man in the world with just a little bit of practice," he said while patting my head. I also giggled seeing him act thick-skinned again.

"Ok, now go practice some music. Don't slack off in that department." he reminded me. He was a big musical guy. His room was full of musical instruments and vinyl.

"Ummm, what should I practice today? What's your favorite Raja uncle?" I asked. He pondered for a while and looked outside the window. A beautiful sunset was happening outside. He went and stood by the window and signaled me to follow him. He put a hand on my shoulder and pointed towards the sunset.

"There are so many sounds and different instruments but if I had to choose one it will always be...." he paused and looked at the sunset like looking at a lost lover with eyes yearning for something like he never wanted the sun to set.

"....it will always be a violin."

................

I put the bloodied clothes into the washing machine and went into the kitchen. I prepared the food and sat on the couch looking at the television.

"Another man was found dead in the alleys of this dreaded city. How can we even feel safe when people are dying left and right. How....." I reduced the volume of the television and focused on the food. I found out about my uncle last weekend the same way as today. Eating food and getting news of someone close to you getting killed is not the best feeling in the world. I didn't cry when I heard about the news. I just felt anger. I found out information about this by eavesdropping on people in the bars and such. Followed people I suspected and even went after kids just to find the man who did it.

And now I feel even more rage. I will kill everyone in the garden. Let's see who is going to stop me.

After finishing my food I went to my room to lay on my bed. I took out the chain from my pocket and kept looking at it with some emotions in my mind.

I kept looking at it until I fell asleep.
