Risa's POV-
The big man was down. His downfall took not more than a minute. It was hard to believe that the boy took him down without breaking a sweat. How was he able to perform those big moves of his with a mask on was beyond me. Maybe he had lungs of iron or something.
I was wrong the whole time the one who needed saving was not the boy but the people around him. I had judged them all on their appearances and not on their actions.
"Well then tell me what happened that night and I might show some mercy." the boy tried to confront the crying giant in front of him. But he didn't reply. The boy nudged him a bit. No response. The man had passed out. The boy's anger could be felt. It was as if the surrounding beside him was bending.
In his anger, he grabbed the brick from the ground and looked at the butcher with vexed eyes. He was going to do something that I hadn't imagined.
I just wanted to know about my past and now I was going to witness a murder. Running would not help now that I have witnessed everything. I won't be able to sleep at night after this.
"YOU! STOP RIGHT THERE!!" I shouted. Finally, I moved, this was too much for me to handle. The trauma of looking at murder in front of my eyes would be unimaginable. I ran towards him while shouting. My voice in the alleyway echoed and seemed to stop the boy. He switched his gaze from the man to me in a slow manner as if he was waiting for me to show up.
I took out the knife Sivi had given me and without any hesitation moved close to him. There was no talking between us. He got up and also moved towards me. Now that he was closer to me I could make up what he looked like. His black eyes stared at me with a stature of about 178 cm. His hand moved forward taking a stance. It wasn't meant for attacking but to counter the moves that I would make on him.

I moved forward albeit a bit slow but we were getting into the range of fighting. I had zero chance of winning but before all of this fiasco started I had sent a message to Sivi. I sent it just before the fight between the butcher and the boy. It was sent so that the boy could be saved but fate had other things in mind.
I just had to stall for time. Two or three minutes and she will be here. But before any of that could have taken place, something inconceivable happened.
The group of kids that had run off had come back on their own. But this time there was no fear or anxiety in their eyes. They came closer and closer to our position without stopping. I cursed in my mind as only I knew what he would do with them. But I was also a bit relieved that I didn't have to take this monster all alone.
"If we tell you what happened will you leave us alone?" the leader of the kids asked.
"Hmm." the boy just grunted in response.
The situation de-escalated too quickly. But I was not convinced by the boy's promise.
"I am calling the ambulance for the man. Don't try to stop me." I said while looking at the boy. He stayed silent for some time but then nodded. I called for an ambulance and told them to come quick. The kids looked at me and nodded in gratitude. I nodded back.
Now that all the things were out of the way the leader of the kids started his story.
"I won't tell you my name as it's common knowledge around here to purse your lips as much as possible and that is what we were trying to do before Mr. Mask came here and picked up a fight with us. That man who died here was a regular passerby. He was a good man and used to play with us if he got earlier from his office. That night too he had come here when he saw us playing cards. Many people passing by saw him with us and that's how those rumors started. But in reality, he played with us till sunset, and then we went home as we had to complete our homework. I had forgotten my bag here so I came back for it but what I saw was out of this world. The office man was confronting another man. I couldn't see his face but the only part visible to me in the scattered lights was his big ax. And that is not the most unusual part the man with axe was shining bright like he had some halo. With only one strike he decapitated the office man."

Adagio of the Enlightened
The Elders will tell you the stories and lore. Of our ancestors, their deeds, and of the foes of yore. They will praise to you the chariot, and how it flew to the stars. How it stole the sun's light and slew the night’s roar. The Shamans will tell you the tales of their wisdom. Their wars on schism, and the unlettered world of ours before. Perhaps they will sing you the songs of what our clans' ancient customs tore. Poems of how our ancestors took what the discs had offered them, the manna and the mundane, and made it more. The kings will tell you of the follies, the sins, and the anecdotes of all our ancestors' wrongs. They will curse to you their names, the Ender of Fate and the Ruined Song. How they had dug up the hearts of the discs, euchred its relics, and blasphemed its prophecies, with oracles withdrawn. But they will only tell you the legends, recount the myths, and sing the allegories washed ashore. The Elders, the Shamans, and the kings can only retell what the storytellers of their own time had voiced. What they have read in books or heard in the minstrels' songs they adore. They don't know what really happened. They were never there. They can't tell you how our ancestors slew the angels from the sky, and sent them back to where they belonged. How they poisoned our minds, and made our people slothful and feeble, with the reforms they had undergone. But I can.I can tell you how the Ender of Fate severed destiny's strings, weakened them, and weaved them to our feeble flesh and souls.I can tell you how the Ruined song razed the heavens with her blood-stained melody, and reshaped our hell into utopia, with the deaths she deplored.Because I was there. I can tell you the truth, with my virtue strong. ----> Disclaimer: This will be a slow-burn, character-driven, non-harem, slice-of-life web novel with cultivation and kingdom-building elements. The Beta Test
Our nameless narrator participates in a beta test for an early VRMMO game Meridian 60. That's not the real name but it captures the spirit of the adventure given the chronological and contextual era of the game. His character is unique and special but purely for mundane reasons and not because of any inherent or social significance. The first chapter which is mandatory to submit a story on RR serves as a bit of a prologue with some exposition, although I limited that to a reasonble level. I plan to begin releasing additional chapters starting Thursday, to align with the 48 hour submission approval process and also because I have something to do Wednesday. I haven't written anything but the summary and first chapter, nor have I plotted anything out. This is because my plan is to release roughly 34000 words a day, 10 chapters of ~12.5 pages each, for 3 days at which point the story will be complete. I'd have liked to plan for more but handling the interface tables and so forth needed for a data heavy litrpg slows down the writing process. 100k words is a bit short, a standard pre epic fantasy 300 page spec fic novel, but this is mostly a writing exercise and I am considering a longer project if I can maintain the pace. Probably do a different concept, maybe a dungeon core, over 5 days, since a 500 page novel is more common these days. Slight subversion of VRMMO stories Stat heavy/crunchy No paying your bills by gaming No out of game conspiracies No angst, interpersonal drama, or damsels/dudes in distress Schedule is 30000 words a day excepting the first chapter, a limitation of RRs fiction submission system Fantasy, high magic, male lead, no party, guild, or harem No gore, some profanity, no sexual content, and no current plans for anything traumatic
