《52 stories》Week 48: The stars

Brady POV
Brady was sitting on the rooftop of his parents house, slowly brushing his little sister's hair with his eyes on the sparkling lights in the sky. The two siblings would often climb up there whenever they would hear screams or the sound of breaking objects in the house. Their parents never physically hurt them, but still, this wasn't a life for young children... Or anyone actually. Brady would often tell his sister stories about how he would take her away from here someday. How they would both go on amazing adventures together and never hear from their stupid parents anymore... If only he had the courage to do that earlier...
Hana POV
Hana were sitting on the top of the main mast, right above the crow's nest where one of their bestfriend was watching the horizon while Hana were looking at the stars, trying to figure out where they were and how long they still had to travel to reach their destination. Their friend would always tease them about how reckless they were, always perched at the top of the mast without anything to hold them if they slipped.Hana didn't care, they knew how strong and skillful they were. They might seemed careless, but they would always look for a way out of trouble. That's why they would always climb the main mast, where there was lots of cables to grab and even the crow's nest to catch them in case of falling. They always dreamed of leading this crew someday, to take over their parent's place and become one of the most feared pirate of all the seas! Turned out the fate had different plans for them...
Brady POV
The years went by and they all looked the same for the two siblings. Brady would take care of his sister while their parents were doing who knows what. He was now old enoughto find a job in town and be able to live on his own and that was his plan. Find a job, any job, find a small apartment, even a room would be enough and he would take his sister aways from them and finally give them both the chance in life they both deserved!
And he was about to achieve his goal, he had this big interview the next day, but of course, his parents would throw a fight in the kitchen again. As always, the siblings would climb on the rooftop to get some peace of mind and sleep. Over the years they managed to build a small comfy nest up there so they could spend the night there even if it was raining outside. Raining like tonight. It was a really big and strong storm tonight. Brady was never afraid during storms, but something about this one made him really unconfortable. He tried to not let it show since his sister was terrified of storm and thunder. He was trying to comfort her when a gigantic lightning struck the top of their little nest, they both screamed in fear and pained and passed out.

Brady woke up the next morning to his parents shouting their names. He was in pain and so confused. He couldn't remember anything until he saw his sister. She was in really bad shape because of the lightning. He freaked out, picked her up and ran to the nearest clinic. He ran and ran as fast as he could and the long road to town only seemed like a few minutes instead of the half hour it usually takes. He was out of breath but finally at the clinic where his sister spent a few days... Only to not make it out alive. His parents never came to her side during the whole hospitalisation and that made him realise how useless they were. He took care of everything for the really small funeral, watched his parents pretend to be heart broken and then he left. He went back to his room one last time, filling his bag with some clothes and food and his sister's favorite plushie and he ran...He ran and ran until everything around him was all blurry. He finally collapse, out of breath and energy. He looked around and realised he was in a completly other town... How did he manage to come all the way here? He looked down at his feet only to see his shoes completly worned out. Too many things were happening at once and it was way too much for him, so he did the only thing his body would tell him to do.. He ran...
He ran until he reached another town. He couldn't really explain how or why but he felt like he had to stay here. So he did. He went around town, doing small jobs to get some money to buy food and a new pair of shoes. He heard about The Storm and how people were developing powers. He tried to not think about that too much, it would only bring back memories from that night where he lost his sister... But it all made sense now... He was one of them. He was doing an amazing job at hiding his power while still being able to be the fastest one around so people would always pick him for the jobs.
He spent a few months like that until one day, two brothers came up to him. Explaining how they knew about his ability, but he didn't have to fear them because they were just like him. They explained how they thought he could help them in their quest to help the other people like them with powers. Brady was full of pride and confidence that he could be the one. The chosen one to save them all! He couldn't save his sister, but maybe he could save the others...

Hana's POV
The years went by and Hana were getting the hang of leading the crew, making their parents really proud of them. They had a really bright future in front of them as an amazing pirate! Until that cursed night. The night that took everything from Hana. They were on the crow's nest like every night, watching this gigantic storm coming their way. Nothing during the day would have made them guess a storm that big was coming and it made Hana really nervous. Usually there was really obvious sign of storms coming and they were always able to guess the weather... But this one came out of nowhere. They quickly ordered everyone to get to safety, only the ones that had to stay on deck for the boat to be able to naviguate were to stay to help.
They fought with the storm all night, it was finally calming down, but it wasn't over unfortunatly. Hana were doing great, but spending the whole night on deck and giving orders to everyone to make sure everyone made it out alive exhausted them more than they thought. Everyone were safe, but they forgot to take care of one person: themselves. They didn't take the time to strap themselves in like they would order everyone to do during a storm. A wave came out of nowhere and made them loose their balance. The last thing they remember is the eyes of the few crew mates trying to save them... The horrified faces their parents made just as they were hitting the surface of the water and after that... nothing...
They then felt a surge of energy inside of them. They needed to stay alive. For the crew... For themselves. They felt their body slowly moving around the water, they could feel their head finally breaking the surface again. They took a really needed breath of air and looked around. Their boat was no where in sight, but they could see land so they swam and swan until they finally crashed on the small beach.
The next few weeks were a blur, Hana vaguely remembered some strangers bringing them into a clinic where they spent who knows how long there. After a while, they were finally on their feet again, but now they were alone... Without anything but the clothes they were wearing. They did spend a few weeks near the beach, hoping their crew would come back, but they knew the rules... They would never come back, once a crewmate is lost, they won't risk the other's life to save one... Even if it was Hana's life. So they took a random road and followed it until they reached a small town with a harbour, they decided to stick here for a while, atleast they would be around boats and maybe...maybe Hana would find their crew again.
Hana were getting along well with the local sailors and quickly found their place in the small town. They also noticed how much they felt dragged to the water. The feeling was so much more strong than usual... They found out about their water bending like ability when a young child played a bit too close to the edge of the dock and fell in the water. The kid obviously didn't know how to swim and when they reached for him, a big column of water erupted, pushing the kid back on the dock. He was coughing and scared, but alive. Everyone looked in awe at Hana, wondering if they were the one that did this miracle. After that day, they trained their power to be able to guide boats around the harbour and everyone in the village did their best to protect Hana. They all heard about what the gouvernment had in mind for those with powers, but they all loved Hana like they had lived here their whole life.
Hana's life were almost back to normal when this young girl around their age came to them. Explaining how she was in a group with other people like them. Young people with powers that had in mind to stop the Hunters and this hunt on people with powers. She said how the two leaders of the group thought Hana could be the one meant to save them all. A chosen one. Hana weren't sure what to believe or what to do, but the people of the village encouraged them to go because they all believed Hana could help the other ''Threats'' like they helped the whole village. It took Hana a few days to decide but they left their new family to meet another one. One just like them...
Third POV
Brady and Hana are both in their respective bedroom, looking at the cloudless sky. They are both a bit bitter tonight. Another ''Chosen one'' just joined the Invisibles. They both feel a bit left out, like they are not worth anything anymore. In the bottom of their heart they know it's not the case, the team need all the help they can get, but still... It hurts to be replace like that. And this Luka doesn't seem that special. He can't even control his power yet! He doesn't even know what it is...
