《52 stories》Week 46: Time

I never really understood how or why I got this power, but I have to say that it's really useful. I just can't seem to keep time during the day and first thing I know, I am late for my appointment or my date or anything really. My ability to stop time appeared around puberty I think. I had this really important work to give to my teacher and she was about to ask me where it was that everything froze around me. I could still move around and everything, but everyone and everything around me as far as I could see were stopped in their tracks. Birds in the middle of the sky, the pen one of my classmate threw to one of his friend... Everything! So I grabbed the work in my backpack and did it as fast I as could and as I was putting it back in my bag, everything went back to normal. I couldn't say how long I was alone in this time freeze since you know... the clock wasn't moving anymore, but I'm pretty sure it was a long time. Anyway this power saved me to fail this class and I was so happy but also really confused.
To say that I am not scared of this power would be an understatement. I am still trying to figure out how this whole thing works. And the only thought of being stucked alone in this frozen time is terrifing. And like, sometimes I don't want the time to stop but it does and other time I wish it would but it doesn't. But I have to say that I'm getting really good at controlling it. Like this morning. I know it is really selfish of me, but I was getting late for work, again, and I wanted to at least catch the bus in time... So I stopped it to be able to get to the station before it left.

So here I am, running as fast as I can to not let everyone in this frozen state for too long. I am almost there and I can see that the bus is already there and the last person is getting in. I am just in time. As I cross the street to get to the station, someone bumps in tome, making me fall on my butt and breaking the hold I have on my power ''Sorry'' the stranger say before running away. I can see that the last person is getting in the bus and I am about to miss it, but this was way too weird. I stand back up and shout ''STOP!'' making everything around me freeze like always... Except this time, one person is still moving and he is running away ''WAIT! Please!''
He stops in his track as he hears my pleading and I can catch up to him. I stand in front of him and take a few seconds to catch my breath ''You... you are like me?''
''I guess? I mean I have no idea what is going on!''
I am way too happy to learn that I am not alone that I don't really listen to what he just said and I just start to talk about how scary I felt to be alone in the whole world to have this power. How happy I am to finally not be alone, that I can finally talk about this to someone and... As I speak I notice how nervous and uneasy he becomes. I stop and invite him to talk to me. After a small awkward silence, he says ''I have no idea what is going on. I never understood why everything around me would freeze at random time... It's great for you if you can control that whole.... thing but I can swear that I can't!''

I take a small step back in confusion ''What... What do you mean you can't?''
How was this even possible... There is no way that I would stop the whole.... World. Right? We stare at each other for yet another awkward silence and he finally say ''Please... just stop all of this. I hate that!''
I shake my head a few time and finally release the hold I have on my power and everything around us is alive again. Oh well, I guess I will have to walk to work again... I put my hand in front of me and say ''I'm Alex by the way.''
''...Peter...'' but he doesn't shake my hand, instead he crosses his arms in front of his chest ''Please.. Just leave me alone and try to not do... that too often. I hate that.''
And I am too in shock to say anything. I can't believe I finally met someone like me and he doesn't want anything to do with me... Instead, he is scared of me. I let out a big sigh and shake my head. I will have lots of time to think about everything that just happened on my walk to my job. I hope I won't get in too much trouble this time... Oh well, time will tell I guess...

Drinker of the Yew: A Necromancer's Tale
Updates Once a Week next update 10/5 Wracked with misfortune, a nameless village along the edge of the Gray Spine rejoiced at the arrival of a paladin. Those celebrations, though, turned to wary tension as the paladin brought an unknown into their midst - his wife Nayinis, who wears the markings of a necromancer. Who is this woman? Why has she come to their village? Nayinis divulges her shadowed past, for she needs the village's trust to defeat the powerful foe that she has been summoned by the divine to face. What to expect: This is a slow-paced, dark, epic-fantasy book written mostly in an archaic first-person style, remniscent of fariy-tale at times. I am expecting the final product to be close to 600-700 pages. The first few chapters introduce a somewhat-steep learning curve of names and mythology of the world that plateaus at aroud chapter 5. New ones coming after that! _________________________________________________________________ Sneak Peek: Next to the kitchen, there was a small squared table and two wooden chairs, each made from different wood. The bookshelf behind those contained a decent amount of books. I stood up to take a closer look at them and even opened a few out of curiosity. While I could read most of them just fine, some of the oldest-looking books were written in a language I didn't recognize. "Hm? Was my hand always blue?" I didn't remember. In fact, I couldn't recall anything about myself, not even my name. Inspecting the rest of my body, I found that it was the same all over. I didn't feel sick; quite the opposite. Still, my blue skin felt out of place for some reason. Trying to find an answer to my situation, I kept investigating the odd room. _________________________________________________________________ Big thanks to Alice Griffin for helping me out with the cover.
