《52 stories》Week 8: The perfect dress

She makes sure to double check the adress of this thrift shop someone recommended her a few days ago. It's a little far but it is supposed to be THE thrift shop with the best kind of used clothes, so of course she had to go and take a look. After about an hour of driving, she parks her small car in the parking lot, put on her mask and goes in. Her eyes open wide at all the colors and styles of clothings that is in the shop. This is the heaven of secondhand clothing for sure!
She walks around the aisles, letting her eyes wander around all the different types of fabrics. Some really old, some more new. Plain colors or extravagent patterns. She was in a kind of trance, following her feet to some unknown location. She is now in the dresses aisle. Small black one to wedding dresses, there is just so much to look at. She let her fingers brush on the fabrics, she is not supposed to do it because of the pandemic but she can't help it. She loves clothes! She then feels a really soft fabric, she stops in her track to get a better look and... there it is. The perfect dress! She stares at it in awe. A yellow vintage dress with really cute patterns on it. And to make it even better: it has POCKETS! She looks at the size, too small. Of course. She is not thin, but not fat either. You know those kind of ''meh'' girls you can say. It was almost impossible to find the right size. But she couldn't pass on this dress. She needed to get it! But it is too small so...
She starts to walk around all the aisles, almost in a frenetic way. One of the worker notices her and can't help but laugh a bit. When she pass by the racks closer to the register, the young man call her out ''You know this is a thrift shop, right? You won't find a bigger size of this dress.'' The shopper stops in her track, stares at him for a few seconds and then shift her weight a bit to be able to see the young lady also working at the register ''You must feel sooo lucky to work with a man that explains everything in such a good way!'' The two women then burst out laughing ''Oh you have nooo idea!''

The young man looks at his coworker ''Wha..'' ''Do you need help with anything?'' The young cashier ask, interrupting him at the same time. The shopper shows her amazing dress and says that she is looking for something similar ''I think I saw something the other day... Where could it be?'' The young man is about to say something, but then again, she doesn't give him the chance ''BEATRICE!'' she shout out ''Where is that yellow pants you showed me the other day?'' And old lady with white hair a tiny round glasses looks up at her, tapping the tip of her nose, thinking. Her face light up and wave the shopper to follow her.
All the way to the back of the shop. At the very end of a rack. An old yellow pants with almost the same pattern of the dress ''Oh my god! If there wasn't from the pandemic I would hug you right now! Thank you so much!!'' The old lady laughs and gives her a little curtsy before going back to whatever she was doing. Our shopper goes back to the register, ready to pay for her findings. The man look at her with this confused look ''You sure you want to buy this dress? Or this pants? We don't do refund here and I can tell you, they won't fit you so...'' ''Oh your cute! Honey, I know! But you know, there is something called sewing!'' She then turns to the yound lady ''Men... They always feel the need to explain everything and yet, they just don't get it!'' The cashier laugh and can't help but to agree ''I really love what you do with those clothes by the way! I'm a fan of yours and I'm actually the one that recommanded you to come here! I'm so glad that you did!'' ''Well I'm glad I did too!'' She says waving the clothes a bit. They both take a few pictures and she walks back to her car, really excited to go back home and start her new design for this cute yellow dress!

Back in the store, the young man watch the shopper leaves with this confused and a bit angry look. The lady gives him a small tap on the shoulder ''Not all women are obsessed with their weight you know. More and more of us find ways to get to wear what they want! But you know, I don't expect you to understand that really confusing and weird fact!'' She then walks away to do some cleaning around the shop. Looking around a bit at the same time. She really like what this lady does and she is planning to start doing it too. She only need to find the right piece of clothing to begin with ''Oh sweetheart!'' Beatrice calls out ''You need to see what I just found!'' She was in the backstore, where all the ''new'' pieces of clothing are stocked until they are put in the front for people to buy. She is in the middle of a pile of hoodies and she is proudly waving one in front of her. The young lady can't help but jump in place. It's perfect. Too small (of course) but perfect! Now she only need to find something that would fit with it and starts sewing!

Cornucopia of Hope
The graduating class of Hope's Peak Academy has been kidnapped sometime after their graduation ceremony. They wake up in a beautiful, plush mansion with no idea where they could be other than the name Our Mansion of Plenty. The physical barriers of steel plates and locked doors might not be enough to cage them, if it weren't for the malicious mechanical fairy calling itself The Fey and ruling their new lives with an iron--albeit tiny--fist. While being kidnapped is bad enough, the fact that this fairy brat is telling them to kill each other is definitely worse. Apparently, murdering one of your fellow victims is the only way to get out of this luxurious mansion. But nobody would do that...right? Cornucopia of Hope is a non-canon killing game completely alienated from the the canon universe of the Danganronpa games. The things borrowed from the games are as followed: Hope's Peak Academy, and the structure of 16ish hyper-skilled teenagers trapped in an enclosed space and being subjected to a motive, a murder, an investigation, a trial, and an execution of the presumed killer. There are no spoilers, tie ins, or previous knowledge required of the series to read this story!

The Beta Test
Our nameless narrator participates in a beta test for an early VRMMO game Meridian 60. That's not the real name but it captures the spirit of the adventure given the chronological and contextual era of the game. His character is unique and special but purely for mundane reasons and not because of any inherent or social significance. The first chapter which is mandatory to submit a story on RR serves as a bit of a prologue with some exposition, although I limited that to a reasonble level. I plan to begin releasing additional chapters starting Thursday, to align with the 48 hour submission approval process and also because I have something to do Wednesday. I haven't written anything but the summary and first chapter, nor have I plotted anything out. This is because my plan is to release roughly 34000 words a day, 10 chapters of ~12.5 pages each, for 3 days at which point the story will be complete. I'd have liked to plan for more but handling the interface tables and so forth needed for a data heavy litrpg slows down the writing process. 100k words is a bit short, a standard pre epic fantasy 300 page spec fic novel, but this is mostly a writing exercise and I am considering a longer project if I can maintain the pace. Probably do a different concept, maybe a dungeon core, over 5 days, since a 500 page novel is more common these days. Slight subversion of VRMMO stories Stat heavy/crunchy No paying your bills by gaming No out of game conspiracies No angst, interpersonal drama, or damsels/dudes in distress Schedule is 30000 words a day excepting the first chapter, a limitation of RRs fiction submission system Fantasy, high magic, male lead, no party, guild, or harem No gore, some profanity, no sexual content, and no current plans for anything traumatic
