《The Fisher King》VI. Entrance

It was dusk when they arrived at the entrance of (Fuck! I forgot the city's name! Wait did I even name this city? Fuck it. Let's give it a name now.) Septemreis. Opal tugged on Mallary's sleeve. "I can walk."
"You sure?" Asked Mallary, hesitant to let her. "I don't mind carrying you."
"Yeah." She nodded, squirming to get down.
"Alright." Mallary walked over to the side of the road and sat on a wooden crate. "Alright, you can let go." Opal released her grip around his neck. He then stood up and turned towards Opal. "Are you coming down?" Opal looked down from the crate. The distance down looked like it was twice her size. She looked back up at Mallary, making eye contact with his crimson eyes.
He noticed the nervous look in her eyes. "Need some help?" He asked. She looked back down to the ground and back up. "Alright." Without asking another pointless question. He placed his hands around her waist and lifted her up. "Woah!" Mallary said before placing her back on the crate. She gave him a perplexed stare. "Whew! You're heavy." He sighed looking out of breath. "I'm going to need you to help me lift you up."
"What a strange person." Opal thought to herself. She had seen him lift boulders days ago.
"I need you to imagine jumping and push your arms up when I say jump."
She looked at him as if he was crazy. "....Okay." She said. Not knowing if what he said was true.
"Alright... One... Two... Three... Jump!!" She raised her arms up, but he placed her back down on the crate.
"Oooo. You can do better. You must have not been trying hard enough." Mallary said with a smile.

Anxious to get off, Opal said, "Again!"
"One..."
She got her arms in a jumping position.
"Two..."
"Jump. I need to jump." She thought to herself.
"Jump!!"
Opal pushed her hands up in the sky as Mallary lifted her up. "There we go! We did it!" He then lowered her towards his face to see her smiling. "Was that so hard?" She then slapped his face. "Alright, alright. I'll let you down." He said, looking dejected and started crying.
"What a baby." She thought. She then looked back at his tear filled, "...Maybe... I was mean." She then pat his long, spiky white hair to cheer him up. "Fluffy..." She thought. His hair was the softest thing she had ever touched.
He then smiled, "Alright, it's time to let you down."
"How does he do that?" She was curious about how he could stop crying on command.
"Here we go." Mallary said letting her down on the ground. "Want me to let go?"
Opal nodded her head eager to walk. Mallary let go of Opal and stepped back. Her legs were quivering uncontrollable. She then lifted up her left foot and fell on her back. Mallary then reached down and grabbed her hand.
"Are you alright?" He asked as he brought her back up on her feet. "Try again."
He then let go of Opal's hand, and backed up a few paces. She lifted her foot again to walk, her legs still trembling. She took a few more steps each being a little easier than the previous until she got to Mallary.
"There you go! You did it!" He said with a smile. Opal lifted her head up and smiled back. Her hoodie fell off to exposed her eye patch. She reached her arm out to grab Mallary's hand.

"You want to hold my hand?" He asked Opal. She nodded her head yes. "Alright." He took her hand and they started walking. Their walking speed retarded due to Opal's weak legs. But eventual they made it to the Nightmare district of Septemreis.
The city was quiet first when they entered. There were few lights on and fewer people roaming. But the further they went in the more and more lively the city became. "Well... shit... I wasn't expecting it to be this... Umm..." Mallary scratched his head. "Anyways, lets cover your face." She pulled her hoodie up which obscured part of her vision.
They walked for what seemed like forever. Until they reached a bright lite building called the Laughing Coffin. "This is the place... we're so fucked..." He muttered with discontentment. "Hmmm?" She turned towards him.
"Nothing. It's going to be okay." Smiling at her. They both entered the tavern.
