《Fire and Stars》Chapter Nine

Penelope looked around the entrance of the cafeteria. "What now?" Penelope asked. "I don't know? Maybe we need to attract the killer." Isabella said. Penelope and Isabella looked at each other. Then a strong noise of anger surprised them. An animal dragged Penelope. Penelope saw the face of a deer made out of leaves and twigs. The deer's eyes were nothing but fire and light like little suns. The deer's antlers were white twigs. The deer was covered in brown leaves like a normal deer would be covered in fur. Penelope started yelling as hard as she could thinking it would startle the deer. The deer started running as hard it could and then slammed Penelope's body into a tree. Penelope slowly fell down to the floor. The deer tried to stab Penelope with its twig antlers but instead cracked its antlers. The deer ran away. When it was running the antlers grew back through light as a part of the antler appeared in light then it became the solid twig.
Isabella heard the deer run away. Isabella ran to Penelope. Once she saw Penelope's body, she ran to find Juniper. It took more than hour but, eventually Isabella found her and told her about Penelope. "I can't heal her." Juniper said. "What do you mean you can't heal her?" Isabella asked in a tone full of anger. "I mean I'm only a fire summoner." Juniper answered. "What?" Isabella questioned. "I have a question, did Penelope see her sister's messages without summoning?" Juniper asked. "Of course, she did." Isabella quickly answered. Juniper had a surprised look on her face.
"Then she's going to be okay," Juniper said. "Here let's go back." Juniper summoned a fire and called a spell. The fire then jumped around to lead them. Juniper ran with Isabella. Juniper and Isabella went to Penelope's body. Penelope was awake and in pain. "What?" Penelope asked to Isabella and Juniper staring at her. "You're a balancer," Juniper said in serious tone. "What?" Penelope questioned. "In this system of magic there are two types of summoners. A fire summoner and a light summoner. It is the easiest to be a fire summoner because for fire all you need to summon is your anger but for light summoner you need to summon your inner peace. Light summoners are less common for that reason. Balancers have to do both. Reagan's death in some way allowed you to do that and Reagan gave power to help use your skill." Juniper explained.

"What was that attacked me?" Penelope asked. "A resurrame," Juniper explained, "A soul that has been kept alive by a summoner in the mortal world. If I'm right Reagan wants you to release the soul of that deer and then her soul will be released." "Is Reagan a resurrame?" Penelope asked. "Yes, there is two ways a soul could become a resurrame. The first way is that a summoner can kill a being and then cast a capture spell on the being. The second way is that a soul can asked a summon to place a capture spell on them." Juniper explained.
"I think Reagan contacted a summoner from the nearby village." "What do I have to do to the dear?" Penelope asked. "You have to find the deer and kill the body, capture the soul, and let the soul go into the light." Juniper answered. "Can you do that?" she asked. "Yes," Penelope answered. Juniper nodded and Penelope nodded back. Juniper disappeared with the fire like she did before.
Penelope and Isabella looked at each other for a few minutes. "Can you get up?" Isabella asked. "Now, I can." Penelope responded. Isabella took out her hand and helped Penelope up. Penelope wiped off the dust from her clothes.

A Step Behind Death
Please share your thoughts about the story! Feedback and criticism is welcome, it'll help me improve my writing. "The final year of high school is the most difficult." This statement has never been truer for Damis, a student attending one of the many schools in the City of Sundridge. He never wanted anything more than to live a peaceful life, going so far as to avoid having large group of friends, indulging in dragged out conversations, or being involved in any other activity that requires him to invest a large amount of effort to accomplish. Instead, he poured all of his efforts into studying, dwelling in his internal monologues, and complaining about the things that annoy him to his one and only friend, Noah. Before long, he ended up as one of the best students in his class. As far as he was concerned, he was content with how he lived. But, after a confrontation with an eccentric girl named May, one of his classmates since the first year of high school, things have suddenly gotten out of hand. And as a result, his life became a lot more hectic than it used to be. Bound by a deal he could not refuse, his life as May's assistant began. At this rate, can he still spend the final days of his high school life in peace? Welcome to the life of Damis, the boy who's always A Step Behind Death. The cover art is made by friend of mine. I plan on making this novel into a webtoon once it becomes the best it can be. English isn't my first language, so expect some grammar bumps along the way.

The Doormat Villainess – Adrianne
A villainess is a character who has always been diametrically opposed to the heroine of a romance drama. What makes a person a good villainess? The fact that she's unabashedly beautiful and charismatic, yet also rotten inside? The fact that she's incredibly loathsome, greedy, and selfish? That she's reasonably strong enough to be a hurdle, yet ultimately powerless in the face of a determined heroine? That despite all these character flaws, a Villainess's greatest virtue is unwilling to give up until the last of their breath, in pursuit of her personal desire? If those are the hallmark of a successful Villainess. Then, I might be the wrong person to play that role. Also on Scribblehub (Profile)
