《Dreamworld: The First Age》Chapter 8: Decisions and Youth

“That man needs to watch his damn temper!” Guidance shouted through Seleiana’s halo. “Attacking anyone in the military is against the rules!”
“Forget about that,” Katie said. “We need to talk about something private real quick.”
Seleiana stands up and bows. She walks into the kitchen leaving her alone with Guidance.
“What is it?” Guidance asked.
Katie watches her leave while sitting on the couch. She leans forward and places the halo close to her mouth.
“I had another nightmare,” she said in a low voice.
“Again? Damn, I didn’t want this to happen to you again.”
Katie waits in silence, listening to Guidance sit in his chair. She hears him open a drawer and pull some papers out. She stands up and walks in circles around the table.
“Here it is,” Guidance said. “I’m going to deliver this folder to you. This folder will have medication, something to help your mind settle.”
“You said that the empire actively did this,” she replied.
“Yes, but your state of mind also plays a role, and right now your mind does not sound healthy. They get easier access to you if your mind is unhealthy,” Guidance pauses for a moment. “Don’t worry, every soldier takes some form of medication to help them with their state of mind.”
Katie walks next to the kitchen doorway and peaks her head in seeing Seleiana sitting on a stool, reading a bible. She withdraws her head and sits on the floor.
“I must say,” Guidance said. “You have served for six whole years, and you’re just now having these nightmares? Most soldiers get these much, much earlier. You have a resilient mind like I do.”
Katie stays silent and stares at the table in front of her.
Odraxon… dammit I don’t know what to do! Should I follow him or stay?
“I will be delivering these to your address now,” Guidance’s voice broke her out of her thoughts.
“Guidance can you help me with something?” she asked. “Should I go help Odraxon or not? I can’t come to a conclusion.”
“Only you know what’s best for yourself,” he replied. “If you seek to help him then go. I will not stop you. But, be cautious of the entity god he hunts.”
That’s not what I wanted to hear dammit!
Katie stands up and turns around, placing her forehead on the wall.
Chief, Odraxon. Why the hell do I have to deal with this!
Guidance was no longer heard on the other end. She lets go of her halo, letting it float above her head. Katie removed her head from the wall and walked around the table again.
What if he dies because I wasn’t there to help him? But Chief and my family. But Odraxon.
She stops and grabs her halo, calling Odraxon. After a few seconds, he is heard on the other side.
“Changed your mind?” he asked in a happier tone.
Katie exhaled while looking out the window, staring up at the sky. “Yes, I changed my mind. Where are you?”
“Excellent!” he shouted triumphantly. “Don’t worry. You’ll be fine because I have a task for you that should keep you away from him.”
Katie stayed silent waiting for an answer.
“I want you to work with the angels I have with me, and rescue the mortals instead. A more fitting job.”

“I can do that,” she assured him.
She was suddenly teleported out of the house and into the cosmos. Odraxon flew in front of her in his dragon form. Next to him was an army of black dragons and angels. Katie’s armor manifested itself around her body. Odraxon points behind her at a gray planet. From her point of view, she can see Drakura on the planet.
“See that?” Odraxon asked. “He didn’t crack the planet open. And I know why too.”
“Why?” she asked.
“Because the bastard wants to taunt me into fighting. He knew I would come.” Odraxon summoned his mace and twisted the shaft three times. A red glow came from the mace’s head.
An entity god with destructive power like him should’ve destroyed this planet already. Is Odraxon really the reason why he's holding back? She thought.
Odraxon flies above her, rocketing towards the planet. The army followed after him, Katie left her train of thought and followed the army. Odraxon let out a roar, flames seeped out of his mouth running up the sides of his face. The angels behind him broke off from the dragons going to another area of the planet.
On the ground, Drakura looked up seeing his opponent coming down.
So he’s come.
He looks down at his men beneath him, attacking a city of creatures.
“Drakurai!” he calls out. “Prepare for battle! The dragon king comes!”
A swarm of Drakurai fly above their king's body, screeches are heard from the swarm as they charge the dragons. Drakura looks to the right and see’s the angels flying away from him. He points in their direction.
“Drakurai! Hunt them down!” he roared.
A red portal opened on his shoulder, and another swarm flew through, pursuing the angels. Katie was behind the army, she heard the screeches of the flaming fiends behind her.
“We got incoming!” she shouts. “I want half of you to stay behind and fight!”
The left half stop and conjures bows. Katie halts and turns around. She raises her hand waiting for the Drakurai to close in.
“Fire!” she shouted while lowering her hand.
Golden arrows flew past her face honing in on the abominations. Some of them attempted to fly out of the arrow's path but were surprised when the arrows followed them. The arrows struck into their skulls, causing a golden flame to engulf their bodies.
“Return fire!” one of them barked.
Suddenly, all the Drakurai’s spears vanished and bows made of red flame replaced their weaponry. They all aimed into the sky and fired their arrows. The angels shoot another wave of arrows, but the Drakurai’s arrows tracked their arrows. They collided with each other making an explosion of golden flame in the sky.
Katie heard the screams of people beneath her as she watched the explosions. She looked down and saw humanoid creatures crawling into a sewer entrance. She turned to look at the angels.
“Stay on them!” she ordered.
Katie descended into the ruins, flying past the buildings. As she flew Drakurai burst from the windows and pursued her. One of them catches up and raises its spear above her back. She quickly turned around and threw a spear made of light into its skull. Flaming arrows came from behind, she turned and flew past a building. The arrows struck the building, engulfing it in flame.
Katie conjures another spear and throws it, the Drakurai dodge the spear and shoot more arrows. With quick thinking, she summons a shield and holds it in front of her, charging the Drakurai. The arrows explode upon contact, but she keeps her grip firm and her arm steady.

She slams her shield into the face of a Drakurai and grabs its neck and crushes it. Katie raises her shield at the sight of a spear coming towards her face.
Damn things don’t let up!
The spear bounces off the shield, shaking the arms of the Drakurai. With an opportunity before her, she summons a chakram and throws it at the Drakurai. The weapon cuts through its rib cage and spine, it let out a painful shriek as it fell to the earth. She summons another chakram and throws it at the group. Soon she was conjuring dozens of discs and throwing them repeatedly.
One of the Drakurai dodged past her barrage and swung its axe down on her head. It was too close and fast for her to summon her shield again, out of instinct she slammed her head into the axe, splitting her head open. The Drakurai laughed with victory but was quickly brought to the realization that she was not dead.
She grabs the Drakurai’s neck and slammed it onto the ground, killing it instantly. Another Drakurai punctured her waist with a rapier, and another one stabbed a sword through her chest.
She grabbed the rapier and squeezed on the blade, snapping it in two, and grabs the Drakurai, slamming it into the other one, killing them both.
The flesh of her head re-connected and regenerated from the wounds. She pulls the sword out of her chest and throws it to the ground. Watching the rest of her enemies fly away. She flew towards the sewer entrance and ran inside, sword at the ready.
“Hello?” she called out. “Where are all of you?! I’m here to get you all out of here!”
The only response she heard was a younger person crying for help, followed by the sound of a woman. Katie ran through the sewers tracking their voices. The cries grew louder as she closed in on the sound. The woman's cries abruptly stopped as Katie turned a corner. She saw a child crawling in the water, crying. Katie widened her eyes and ran towards him, she grabbed him by his arm and pulled him to his feet.
“It’s ok, It’s ok. I’m here to help you.”
He widened his eyes at the sight of her and fell back on his knees crying. She looked ahead and saw a Drakurai walking towards them.
“Damn runt,” it hissed. “Why’d you have to run away? Don’t you want to join the rest of your family?”
The child screamed in horror and ran behind Katie. She felt him shaking as he grabbed onto her leg.
“Get out of my way,” it demanded. “I’m not done with this one.”
Katie pointed at him as her face turned redder. “Did you kill this boy's parents?”
“So what if I did?” it shrugged.
Katie dropped her sword into the dirty water and gently placed her hand on the child's forehead. She gave him a soft push releasing his terrified grip from her leg.
“Well come on then, angel!” it taunted while pointing its spear at her.
She quickly dashed towards the Drakurai, letting the spear stab through her stomach. Ignoring the pain, she grabbed the Drakurai’s neck and slammed its head onto the wall. It shrieked in anger and threw its fist at her head. She raised her hand, catching its fist. Katie pulled on it, ripping its arm off. Her vision began to change, the walls became a dark purple, her hands had turned purple, and claws replaced her fingers.
“The weapon!” it cried out in fear.
Katie picked up the Drakurai by its spine and raised it above her head. She pulled the creature in half and tossed its corpse into the water.
“My body,” she gasped while looking at her hands. “What is this?!”
Red eyes suddenly appeared on the walls around her and stared.
“You’re mine,” the eyes said with an empty voice.
She fell to her knees and grabbed her head as it throbbed with pain. The battle above her was growing quiet, all Katie heard was the eyes repeating themselves as they grew louder. She felt a hand place itself on hers. At that moment her vision returned to normal, and her hands were normal again. She looked to the left and saw the boy on his knees touching her hand.
“You,” she said softly.
They locked eyes for a moment before he looked down at the water.
“Am I dead?” he asked.
She stared at him trying to gather her thoughts.
“Are you real? Is any of this real?” he still questioned.
Katie wrapped her arms around the boy and gently pulled him into her. She placed her chin on his grime-covered shoulder.
“I’m real,” she assured him quietly. “And no. You’re not dead.”
“I feel dead,” he replied with an empty voice.
Katie stood up and lifted him. Her hands began to glow gold, the boy's body was outlined with light as she raised him into the air.
“I’m going to place you somewhere safe. Somewhere these monsters can’t hurt you.”
His body vanished ascending to the heavens, she lowered her arms and looked at her hands. The sewer shook as the sound of something massive impacted the ground. Her sword flew back into her hand.
I have to move!
She blew through the ceiling, flying back into the open sky. Lying on the ground in the distance was Odraxon. He had a giant hole in his stomach that looked cauterized.
“What? Uncle!” she cried out.
In the blink of an eye, she was suddenly smashed into the ground by Drakura.
“Another one down,” he said.
Drakura pulled his fist back, seeing her broken and bloody body inside the crater he created. He stared at the light still visible around her body.
Alive? How is that possible?
Drakura raised his head to the air as if something was calling him. He circled around the crater observing her body.
“The weapon? Ah, that’s right. I forgot about this plan” he stepped away from the crater and looked at Odraxon.
“You failed again,” he stated. “I’ll let you live again. Come back stronger next time I’m eager to see you again.”
He looked up again listening to someone talk to him. “No! I will not forsake my honor! You may have damned me into servitude, but you will not take away my humanity!”
Drakura sees an army of white dragons flying towards the planet. He opens a massive, red portal and steps through it followed by his Drakurai.
