《New To This》Chapter Two

I pulled on my tank top and headed outside with the rest of the team in tow, despite not even being a senior, i was the captain of the football team and that was because i was the best and everyone knew and respected that, though some of the older players didn't think that i should be captain, they were over ruled by all the younger team members, thank god for friends.
I looked around and checked the time, the new guy wasn't here and honestly i didn't have time to wait on him "let's begin and when he gates here he'll join in."
"Okay boys split into two groups, today we'll be running some plays." Coach Vanessa said while handing out red and black vest.
I grabbed four blacks, pulled on one and gave the other three to Seth and Jeb and Aiden, the boys that were on the other team groaned, we were the strongest players and everyone knew it. We all smirked at them, it was always fun to rile them up before we actually play.
The ball flew to me and i snatched it up before making a run for it, dodging all the other players and heading straight for the goal, then someone blocked my way, i looked into the blue green eyes before being knocked to the ground. I felt my head hit the ground so hard, the whole place went dark for a few minutes, when i opened my eyes everyone was standing over me, Seth pulled off my helmet.
"Hey dude you okay?" i rubbed my face and groaned.
"Dude you okay?"
I nodded "who the hell was that? i'm gonna kill em!"
I jumped to my feet and saw Mike one of the older players smirking at me, oh so it was him, i turned to Seth "rip him a new one." we found our next target and he wasn't leaving the feild without something broken.

We all lined up and all our eyes were on Mike, he snatched the ball and headed for the goal, me and Seth were headed after him, Aiden appeared right in front of him, he turned only to see Jeb and by the time he dodged past him he only saw us running into him. We watched as he flew into the air and landed on his shoulder, he let out a scream that only made us smile, the coach and the rest of the team came running over, we later found out he had dislocated his shoulder, it wasn't broken but it would do.
--
I jumped out my car and headed inside the apartment building, the lady at the counter nodded towards me as i headed to the elevator, it took a few minutes to get to the third floor, i walked down the hall to the last room and knocked on the door.
It opened and Nash poked his head out "hey babe, gimme a minute."
He locked in the door and i stood there for a good five minutes, before the door opened and a blond girl walked out, she smiled at me before walking away.
"Who's that?"
"My class mate we were studying for a test we got tomorrow."
I looked him up and down as he held his smile, i rolled my eyes and walked past him, as usual his apartment was a mess, i honestly didn't know why he always invited people over.
"Anyways, didn't i tell you to call before you came over?" he asked while arching his brow.
"I'm out of credits and my dad didn't get it refilled."
"Make sure you call next time, i don't care how, do you understand?" i nodded and he pulled me into a kiss, i let his tongue invade my mouth.

"So any classes tonight?"
"Yeah, but i'm skipping, there's this party i want to go to." he said pulling on a shirt.
"I don't think you should skip all these classes, it's going to get you in trouble."
He shot me a look "so fucking what, i'm the one paying for it so it wouldn't matter if i got in trouble!"
I put up my hand in defense "chill out, i'm just worried about you."
"You can be as worried as you want, just keep it to yourself!"
I lowered my gaze, the floor seemed really interesting at this point, i heard his foot steps, he held my chin and raised up my head, kissing me.
"Sorry for yelling on you, i'm just stressed is all." i nodded and he smiled.
"Anyways lets go." he held my hand and led me down to the car.

WARNING: THIS STORY HAS A SLOW START. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. We all grew up hearing stories about heroes and villains, but what would we do if we were to be part of one? One night, a bioweapon escaped from its laboratory in Zalcien, only to die in a dark alley. One night, a young man lent a helping hand, only to die alone in the dark. One night, a deity of death saw two lost souls and offered one a second chance in the other's body. Now a strange creature made of darkness, James has to deal with his new form in a strange new world where superpowers, heroes and villains are commonplace, far away from his home. Watch as he learns how to use his powers, as he meets allies and enemies and how, when facing the paths of heroism and villainy, he chooses a third way somewhere in between. Follow the story of James, a lost Earthling soul, as he becomes Silhouette, the mysterious power in the shadows. Greetings fellow humans. This is my first story on Royal Road and my first long-term project written in English, so I do hope you will have some mercy in your heart when reading. So, as you may have understood, this is a story with super-heroes - which is quite ironic for my first story considering all of the other ones planned are fantasy - and as such will take place in a modern-like setting. Despite dark themes and gory scenes making their way into the story, it is still a super-hero world with the logic that matches, so expect characters to survive nuclear explosions without a scratch and yet to get defeated by a rubber ducky - as well as similar dark humor, thus the comedy part.

Myth of The World's Trees
And Simon answered their call with a single statement that nobody understood "Et super mos absit hoc hodie!" "Yah!" "WWWaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!" "AAAlllllaaaaallllaaaaallllaaaa!" "EeEEellllleeeeeelllllleeeeeeuuuuuuu!" I, too, yelled a battle cry at the top of my lungs. I had no idea what Simon had just spouted but from Camilla's giggling, I could guess that Simon thought that spouting nonsense was his way of getting out of the earlier predicament. "I forbid death upon this day," Camilla said. "What?" I answered a bit at a loss. "Ancient Latin," she replied smugly, "He said 'I forbid death upon this day'." I laughed aloud "Then he is gonna be really disappointed in everyone here," Camilla did not reply and instead took a deep breath. I did the same, zoning out everything in my surroundings. The environment became a world of electrical pulses traveling across several networks. I perceived the world through my lightning and sped my heartbeat to inhuman levels. I was present now, at this moment, at this point in time. I could feel the electrifying air saturating my lungs, the electrified ground vibrating at the rhythm of the approaching enemy. Then I took a step forward, everyone followed in tandem. Camilla the first, and then the others. Then I took a second step, and this time everyone followed simultaneously. Third step… Fourth step… Fifth step… Then light jogging… Speeding up… Running … Running faster…. Then suddenly, everyone disappeared into motes of light particles that re-constructed itself hundreds of feet above the horde, dozens of miles away from our initial position. We were literally 'diving' into battle.-------------------------------------------------------------------Despite a rough childhood in the slums, Omari had everything a guy could want - a loving girlfriend, an understanding sister, a wonderful teacher, and his dream job. Still, the scars from his childhood made Omari unable to live a dull life. He dreamed of something greater... something beyond the reaches of what humankind could achieve in the current era.Like always, Omari should have been careful what he wished for. In the year 2046, the World was thrown into chaos as the apocalypse came in the form of massive trees that shot up out of the ground one day. These trees towered over the tallest of buildings and had thicknesses that spanned kilometers at a time. They grew everywhere, in homes, businesses, and cities as they formed a complex network that overlayed the old world. The cause of the apocalypse was unknown, but Omari's workplace was believed to be the origin point of the unfortunate events.Fifteen years after the start of the Apocalypse... after all the pain and suffering... after losing everything he cared about, Omari sent his memories back in time to make sure that the future he lives in, never came to be.Will he be able to uncover the mystery of The Trees? Will he be able to protect all those he has lost? Will he succeed, or will his attempt be washed away by the currents of time?
