《Road》Chapter 7

At night I stayed at the inn for the first time. I slept in a bed. It was much more comfortable than the stone-ground, really. I learned something unexpected too. Actually right now, I am looking at it. It was my skeleton. It was a small one, only reaching my waist. Even though it still looked menacing, I couldn't bring myself to take it seriously. It seems whenever I catch a monster, it starts from Tier 1 Level 1."Well. I guess I will be returning to slimes. Maybe.." I took out my spear and gave it to the skeleton. It took it from my hand slowly and started inspecting it. I used my connection with it to make it hold the spear correctly and it did. "Now I need a good weapon for you." I banished it and made my way out. When I was downstairs, Alane waved at me. I smiled and nodded.
She came to me and said, "What do you want to it for breakfast?"
"I don't know. What do you have?" Though I didn't expect much. She listed a few things which I have no idea what and started waiting expectantly. "I don't know any of them. Can you pick for me?"
She beamed at me. "I know just the food you will like. Just wait a few seconds and I will get your food." I nodded and sat on a table. After a short while, she came to me with a wooden tray. There was bread, milk, and something mysterious. I pointed at the mysterious food and looked at her questioningly.
She smiled. "Its monster meat stew. There is the meat of four different monsters. Its recipe is a secret, so I can't tell you what exactly in it." Seeing my hesitation she added. "Go on. Try it. It's delicious, trust me."
I nodded and took a spoonful of it. As soon as I put it in my mouth, there was an explosion of lots of different tastes. The meal was somehow both delicious and not. I looked at Alane, frowning. "What the hell is this!" She just chuckled and went inside where I guessed to be the kitchen of the establishment.
While I was eating and trying to decide if I liked the meal or not, someone sat across to me. I looked up from the meal. It was Jade. She looked at the meal in front of me and smiled. “I see you found out about the mystery stew. How is it?”
I shook my head. “I don't know. Somehow both good and bad.”
She chuckled. “Its like that for most people. So, what do you intend to do today?”
I put the spoon down and touched my chin. After a while of thinking, I said. "I will go back to the graveyard to grind."
She looked surprised. “You shouldn't go by yourself, its dangerous.”
I nodded. “Probably, but I am ready to take the risk.”

She shook her head. “I will come with you. Together, we should be able to come back without a problem.”
'I can't let her know about my Monster Breeder Skill. Maybe... Well, there won't be any problem if only one person knows about it.' I nodded. "Okay. But first, I need to buy a sword made from silver alloy."
“Silver? Why?”
“They should be extra effective against undead.”
She looked surprised. “Why should it be? What's so special about silver?”
I shook my head and parted my arms to each side. “I have no idea.”
She didn't say anything for a while. "Let's try it. I have a silver sword I don't use. It dropped from a Tier 2 Goblin Boss. If what you say is true, I should be able to see the difference between silver and steel."
While talking, I finished my meal and got ready to go then I remembered. I turned to Jade. "Did you eat?" She nodded. "Let's go then."
We went out and started walking towards the graveyard. I was giddy with excitement. I just couldn't wait to see my skeleton grow. I was curious about perks too. 'Well, that's something for me to think later.'
After walking for about half an hour, we were in front of the door. Before getting in, I invited Jade to a party and told her about my skill. She looked surprised very much if her open mouth was anything to go by. She looked at me. "You can catch every monster?" I nodded. "What happens to them after you catch?"
I shook my head. “They start from Level 1 of Tier 1.”
She nodded. "But they can level up." I nodded. "You are very lucky to have that skill. There are lots of unique monsters in the world. I am pretty sure you can have a great party of summons. Your class improves their... You took your class thinking this didn't you?"
“Yes. I thought that if I have others fighting for me, I can support them instead.”
She nodded. “That's good thinking.” I nodded. “Well then let's go and see your skeleton.”
She touched the gate first and for a second her body shone before disappearing. I did the same and found myself in the dim light of the Undead Dungeon. I quickly found Jade, who was fighting a zombie with a silver sword. When I say fighting she was actually only dodging its attacks and touching it with her sword. Whenever she did that, the zombie shone a little and all its body gave out some kind of smoke. Seeing this, I remembered the way Giant's body reacted to my Holy Light Spell.
After experimenting enough, she finished the zombie with a hit to its neck and turned to me. “You were right. They are indeed weaker against silver. Though not enough for me to change my sword.”

I nodded and summoned my skeleton. She gasped. “Can you give silver sword to my skeleton. I want to see if I can make it fight effectively with it.”
She nodded. “So they can use tools too?”
I shook my head. "Not by themselves. I need to focus a little for it to work." After I finished speaking, I turned around and found a lone zombie. I commanded my pet to attack it and it ran as fast as possible. Though of course, I didn't forget to boost it. When it reached the enemy zombie I commanded it to make an overhead swing and it did. My skeleton's sword hit right on its ribs and the enemy undead shone. Though there was something odd since it didn't attack my skeleton. Seeing this, I turned to Jade. "I think we broke the dungeon."
She just shook her head. "They don't identify your skeleton as an enemy. You continue." She gestured to a group of zombies. "I will slay them." I nodded and boosted her strength and agility. She then took of. I sat down on the odd-looking grass and started observing my skeleton.
"Hmm. Calling it as my skeleton isn't very good. Let's give it a name.. Aha! Your name is now Tori." As soon as I give it the name, Tori started to shine. Then there were two screens in front of me.
You named your skeleton Tori.
Monster Breeder Skill Activated
You named one of your monsters. You can now assign perks to your named monsters.
Seeing this I couldn't help but grin ear to ear. I quickly located the perks for Tori and took a look. There were all kinds of perks but only one perk point right now. I was glad it started at Tier 1 Level 1 since it gets a perk every five levels. I quickly found what I was looking for. I took one last look at the screen.
[Perk] Monster Intelligence 1/10
Your monsters can now execute more complex orders.
This was just the perk I needed. After buying the perk, I just gave it the order to kill every single zombie he came along by making overhead swings. After making sure it was executing my commands correctly, I went to look at Jade. She was as I expected, still fighting against the group she put herself in the middle. I thought of using Holy Light but she didn't need it. So I instead opened Party Status and looked at it. There was still lots of time until boosts expiration. I sat at the ground, crossing my legs, and started watching.
Jade was at the center of the group of zombies and she was trying her best to not get attacked by all of them at the same time. She was, instead of making powerful attacks, was going for fast attacks. Seeing this, I remembered my third boost skill and used it on her. "Boost Dexterity." The effect was immediate since her attacks abruptly got faster. She noticed it and started swinging her sword stronger and stronger.
After a few minutes, she was done. She came and sat beside me. “How is your summon doing?”
“I don't know. It should do well since it doesn't get attacked.” I said this but curiosity got the better of me and I called it from our mind link. As soon as I did, there were screens in front of me.
Tori Defeated Zombie * 18
Tori Gained 3600 Experience.
Tori is now level 8
Tori gained a perk point.
You are now level 18
Your group defeated Zombie * 45
You gained 9000/2 = 4500 Experience.
You are now level 21
BOOST VITALITY
Increases the Vitality of the target by (Soul)% for (Soul)*10 Seconds
Cost: 25MP
BOOST INTELLIGENCE
Increases the Intelligence of the target by (Soul)% for (Soul)*10 Seconds
Cost: 25MP
I whistled. “I am glad we came here. Now I am much closer to Tier 2.”
Jade nodded. "Good. Did you think about what you are going to pick for your second class?"
I shook my head. "I will get an Int class but I don't know what class to take." I turned to Jade. "Do you know a class like that?"
She nodded. “I know a few but you probably won't like them. First tell me, what kind of class are you looking for?”
I ran my hand through my hair. "I am looking for an Int class that will have bonus to Light attacks or different kinds of buffs."
She flinched. “I know a class like that but its Tier 1. What do you think?”
I looked forward and took some time to think. “What is the perk?”
"Double potency to Light-based spells. You even gain 3 Int every level but.."
“Yes?”
"It has only one skill. It's Imbue Item. It lets you imbue items with your light elemental spells."
I whistled. “That's a great skill. What is the class' name?”
She smiled slightly. "Light Imbuer. Its thought as one of the useless classes since Enchanter Class is much stronger and versatile."
“Oh. Do you know enchanter?”
“No. I only know its a Tier 4 class.”
I nodded. “How does imbuing work then? Do I need mana stones or something?”
Jade shook her head. "You imbue items with your mana. You can put in as much mana as you want. The items mana cost increases with the magnitude of the spell you imbued. Imbue Item Skill should come with a page to see the cost and charge, so you should know how much you can use." I nodded and sent Tori to fight again. "I decided. I will get the Light Imbuer class. There isn't much experience needed either. So lets level up."

BladeMage
Arenya Azural, a dragon-blooded farmer from a small town in the middle of nowhere, always dreamed of being a great hero, battling demons and monsters as a force of magic and power. Now her dream has a chance to become reality - she's a new student at Ba'al Cedric's Academy of Adventurers, a university for warrriors and heroes to learn to battle against the surprisingly amicable demon armies of the neighboring country in an endless war nobody really remembers the point of by now. She's also a BladeMage - an exceedingly rare and exceedingly difficult dual class that few have ever managed to succeed in, but those who have gain immense power. Arenya has a long road ahead of her, with rival students, duels with demons, and a host of benchmarks she must pass in order to keep her scholarship. Will she make it to level 100 and beyond, or die too many times and be forced to return home, tail (literally) between her legs to a life of farming and dreaming of adventure? BladeMage is a LitRPG with a lighter focus on stats. It features battles, leveling up, giant monsters, a bit of fanservice, and more. [Update: The LitRPG elements are proving themselves relatively unimportant as I continue to write. They may be dropped entirely, in which case I will change the prior chapters as well as update this description.] Content warnings: As a story featuring lots of fighting, there will be blood and death. However, since characters rarely die permanently, this will not be a hyperviolent story with extreme gore for the sake of it. Some sexual content and fanservice may be included, but this should remain firmly at the PG-13 level and there will be no sexual violence of any kind. The Cover: Someone suggested that I should have a dragon girl with a miniskirt on the cover. I can't draw and I don't know who to ask or commission, so a few minutes in the GNU Image Manipulation Program and the masterful cover above was created! Please feel free to use your imagination to see a gorgeous half-dragon with azure hair, wings, and a tail, holding a lightning-infused sword while fighting demons.

The Dreamside Road
Five years after the world fell into chaos, a treasure of artifacts is up for grabs. The relics of the Dreamside Road offer a power that could help rebuild or annihilate what remains. Orson Gregory is an adventurer for hire, but hunts this treasure for answers, not glory. Enoa Cloud’s late aunt helped hide the Dreamside Road, but following in her aunt’s supernatural tradition offers her as much peril as power. Together, Orson and Enoa battle a magic-obsessed militia, clash with a host of rivals, and face constant adventure on their journey to find the Dreamside Road. *Updates Monday and Friday The Dreamside Road is now on TopWebFiction! Vote so people know this exists. _____________________________________ NOTE: The Progression tag applies specifically to Enoa. Also, fair warning, that element doesn't enter the story until she begins her studies. Content: Main characters range in age from teenagers to people in their thirties and older, but it will not contain gratuitous violence or explicit sexual content. It also won’t shy away from implication, anything to make this story and its world feel more real. Characters will freely allude to potentially triggering topics, including living with a disability, facing terminal illness, coping with trauma, surviving societal destabilization, and the consequences of bigotry. At its most intense, the Dreamside Road is a hard PG-13. Worldbuilding: This is not a story with a lot of early exposition scenes, conveniently explaining ‘magic systems’ and political dynamics. Readers will learn, progressively, as the characters do. This story/world has a ‘magic system’, or rather, a set of systems, but the effort to quantify and understand the truth of the setting plays a role in the backstory, as well as in some character motivations. In that same vein, not every character has a firm grasp on the nature of their world, and not every piece of dialog from every character should be taken as entirely truthful Worldbuilding. Also, this isn't the softest Sci-fi. There are at least some basic explanations given for various elements, but Royal Road does not give me a spectrum to choose from. Given the choice between hard and soft, let's just say The Dreamside Road won't be cited in any college Physics papers. Setting and Theme: The Dreamside Road walks the line between fantasy and science fiction and deals with finding one’s place in a changing world. Many of the characters in this story are United States natives and the story begins in the United States, my homeland. However, knowledge or interest in this country is not necessary to understand the story, especially as it progresses. Also, as this is a novel that deals with societal collapse and while that damage may be widespread, in story, I don’t want to overstep and critique the culture of others’ unless I have particular knowledge in a given area. Ultimately, the Dreamside Road is American in the same way Harry Potter is English, fantasies that do not have a full secondary world, but with enough original elements to fully diverge the setting from our the real world.
