Chapter 8: Stats.
As the group began their escape, Rick took a glance of the beasts questing for food, or perhaps for revenge of their fallen friend. [I just hope I can see their level...] Rick had that fast thought if he wouldn’t be able to see their level that meant that their strength would, at least, be higher than the mauloo that had attacked him earlier. Luckily he was able to see some stats.

DEX: 5
STA: 15
CHA: 14
[Good, if I remember correctly the mauloo that attacked me earlier was level 13 or was it 14…? I just remember it was stronger], Rick had not noticed, perhaps due to him being a little bit more preoccupied with other things, such as not getting killed, but the screen showing this mauloo’s stats were clearer than the one he had seen some hours ago. [Ok, let’s see the other two..!]
TUROK
MAULOO
LVL: 7
HP: 38
TOOL: NONE
EXP: 80/100

STR: 20
MGC: 3
DEF: 19
SPD: 18
LCK: 10
DEX: 4
STA: 12
CHA: 8
[Great! This one is weaker!] This should have been evident, even without Rick’s special abilities, due to the smaller size of this mauloo, it being half the size of the biggest one which was also the quickest. It was so quick in fact that he was within a scarily short distance of Rick, who was the slowest member of the fleeing trio. And yet worst was that their distance was being cut every second.
This was the first time Rick had actually paid attention to what mauloos looked like, having not really paid much attention to their appearance before. He had only seen a couple of them by now, but he would surely not forget about them soon, if he survived. The mauloos were bulky and with a strong rock-like skin, covered in some parts by fur that didn’t cover every part of their bodies, just some of it. Rick wondered why the fur covered only part of their body, which was unusual, or at least he thought, perhaps they lost some of their fur in battles, that was the hypothesis Rick quickly made up in his head. Their necks were short and thick, and their face was big in comparison to their body. They definitively could track down their prey with their huge noses which were accompanied by two tusks.

The first ones he had seen were intimidating alright, but pale in comparisson to the third one, even when Rick and that mauloo were so close, its stats were still a mystery to Rick, he could only see a very faint but unreadable summary. Maybe if this wasn’t a chase and they were standing he could, focusing entirely on looking at the stat box, make something out of the numbers that appeared when he glanced at this mauloo, but as the situation stood, Rick wasn’t able to make out the cryptic window that manifested front of this beast. One thing was clear, this was the strongest of the three.
That’s when Rick remembered something. [I can’t see that mauloo’s stats clearly and I wasn’t able to see Shila’s stats either… But… I could at least see some hints of its stats… That must mean that Shila is stronger than it! Either way is not like we have a choice, we will have to fight them all eventually, but is good to know that we have a teammate that’s stronger than them!]
Less than five minutes had passed before their escape had started, and Rick was already exhausted, not only was his stamina lower than that of his companions, but his legs were not yet fully recovered from his earlier sprint.
Rick had not noticed this but in front of him were two stat boxes, one was Benttotopotzki and the other was Shila’s, [So… Why exactly am I able to see Shila’s stats now??! This makes no sense!]
[You earned Shila’s trust, remember? She’s your ally now! So even if she’s way stronger than you, you can now see her stats… You would know that if you checked thru your menu!] Chumina manifested, with a grin as if he enjoyed Rick’s perils.
[Well, excuse me for not doing so in the middle of a race for my life!]
Rick didn’t pay much attention to Benttotopotzki’s stats, [He’s a level 2, same as me... There’s not much we can do…] Rick turned his sight towards Shila, [If there’s any way we, well I, don’t die… It’s gotta be one of Shila’s abilities!]

Rick took a quick glance at her stats, it was fast enough to notice she was at level 23 and also that her strongest stats was magic, [Obviously magic is her strongest trait! She is a mage!… Duh!] That was not the only thing Rick noticed, there was a little icon [Ally’s abilities] which Rick quickly opened.
[Ally’s abilities:]
[Shila:]

[Magic]
[Please... No [Basic Punch] again!] Rick thought as he opened her Magic abilities.

Rick didn’t exactly have much time, so he didn’t give all of the spells a detailed look. The one that immediately picked his interest was [Heal]. He was already exhausted from all the running, if he wanted to survive in this world some training was a must, that is if he did not die at the fangs of the beast pursuing him. In the meantime some healing could help him, so he screamed, “Shila! Can you cast your healing spell on me!?”
Shila was surprised by Rick’s plead for help. Without turning her head, not wasting a single motion, she screamed back, “Were you hurt? I can sense your mana is almost full, isn’t it?”
[Mana…? I guess she’s talking about my HP…] Rick thought, “No, I haven’t been hurt but… I won’t be able to keep running for long! Don’t you have a spell that can make me faster or something…?”
Shila knew of the existence of spells that boosted your speed, but she didn’t know any of them, the most she could do was cast [Energizia], one of the first spells she had learned. The spell channeled energy from the environment into a willing recipient boosting their overall physical and magical attributes for a short time. It was useful for certain situations when a quick boost of energy was needed, its drawback though was that after some time the receiver not only returned to their original state but weakened even more until they rested.
“Look, Rick… I have been trying not to use my magic right now, but if you really need it I can cast [Energizia] on you, if I do that you will get a small boost of energy, but it won’t last long… I would guess in your case it would last around five minutes, after that, you will become dead weight… And I don’t want to be rude, but I don’t know if I would be able to take care of you in that state!”
“Sure! Just give me some time to think!”
In an instant Rick used the [Map] function and looked thru it for a couple of seconds, and after some thinking his eyes glittered with hope, he had found a solution.
“D-Don’t worry!” Rick was already gasping for breath, “I have a plan now, and five minutes is all I need, so cast that spell on me!”
