"The elite competition will be held next week. You will be notified about the time and place later," said Samantha to the trio after they received their prize. The trio nodded to indicate their understanding and went back to their seats.

In an office, somewhere in the academy, sat a middle-aged man. He was black with short, black, spiky hair and green eyes. He had a moustache. In addition, he had two spider legs coming out from his back. He was looking at the screen in front of him. His hands moved extremely fast while his eyes processed the information rapidly. This man was Kyle Underhill, the general supervisor of year 10 and a law king warrior. Above him were only the principle and the two vice-principles.
"Let's see, this is the list of names for the elite competition this year," he scanned the names briefly, his gazed paused when looking at a certain name, "Artix Fergusson, where have I heard this name?" He pondered for a few seconds, "I remember now. He is the one we made an exception for. Looks like this kid is capable," he nodded and signed off the list.
**********
Artix went back to his room. He couldn't wait to see what was inside the prize box. He opened the box to see another box and an instruction manual.
Artix became confused and inspected the box. When he used his consciousness to probe, he found that his consciousness would appear inside an empty space.
Artix became excited, "It's a storage box!"
He inspected the space inside and found that it was as big as his room. He then looked at his bed. He tried to get it inside the box, but failed no matter what he did. Hopeless, Artix could only pick up the manual and read through it.

'... The box has two modes, isolated and storage mode... , caution must be taken when storing something inside... in case of any crack or damage to the box, immediately evacuate everyone within 5 metres of the box and keep at least a 10 metre distance, then contact the police.'
Artix then went to open the window, then he tried to change the mode from isolated to storage. Immediately, the box started to suck in the surrounding air. After 15 minutes, the pressure inside the box reached equilibrium with the outside. Artix then tried to put his bed in. This time he succeeded. He then tried to enter the box himself. He appeared inside. There was no light so he couldn't see his surroundings. He floated in the space quietly. He used his consciousness to scan the surroundings. He used mana to fly around. He enjoyed the feeling of flying. He played around for a while, then he came outside. He then took his bed out and isolated the box. He didn't forget to add a password.
**********
A week passed and it was time for the competition.
All hundred groups gathered. The competition was held on an open stage. Three people sat in front of all the audience. They were the judges for the competition, the general supervisor and his two assistants. Each group were assigned a random number from 1 to 100 and they went on stage in ascending order.
Artix saw Ronald among the contestants. Ronald also noticed Artix looking at him. He nodded at Artix. Artix nodded back even though he was confused, 'Wasn't he supposed to be hostile? Whatever, it is better this way anyway.'
The groups went on stage and demonstrated their programs. The programs demonstrated were much more complex than those demonstrated in class. There were nuclear fission, nuclear fusion, plasma and many more.

Artix's group won the 21st place. The winners were Ronald's group with their program, growth acceleration.
"Winning is not important as long as you tried your best," said Samantha in a bid to console the trio, "Even though you didn't win, you still enjoyed the competition didn't you? Plus you were almost among the top 20. This is a great achievement! We should celebrate this. Let's go, I will take you to a nice restaurant."
The trio followed Samantha, went through a teleportation platform and finally arrived at their destination. Artix looked ahead and saw a luxurious looking two floor building. 'Luxus', read the sign. 'The most expens... I mean, the most luxurious restaurant in the academy,' thought Artix.
The trio followed Samantha inside and settled around a table. "You can order whatever you want," said Samantha as she looked through the menu. Artix picked up the menu and looked through it. He saw many weird names followed by a high price. Artix looked at his two friends and saw their indifferent expressions.
"You can order whatever you want. No need to be shy," said Samantha after she saw Artix hesitating.
In the end Artix settled for a dish with an average price. As for choosing his favourite dish, well, 'What in the sky is this Clootie Dumpling...' screamed Artix inwardly.
After the order, the quartet started chatting in order to pass the time.
"Artix, I see that you're nervous. Is this your first time here?" Asked Samantha.
"Yes," said Artix honestly.
"I see... so which dish did you choose?" Said Samantha.
"This one," pointed Artix at the dish on the menu.
"Do you know what this is?" Questioned Samantha.
"No, but I want to try it," Artix praised himself for his quick wit.
The quartet continued to chat until their dishes arrived. Artix looked at the big white plate in front of him. A weird looking dish was placed in the middle of it. The dish didn't even take a quarter of the plate's area. When Artix remembered the price of this dish, a pang of pain struck his chest, 'I could've dined in Blue Dine 10 times with that amount of money.'
'Maybe it tastes delicious,' Artix thought. He took a bite but found the taste subpar at best.
'It is not the taste nor the quantity. Then, why is it so expensive? Is it because of the ingredients? Maybe we are paying for the luxury. Then why do they look like they are enjoying themselves? Perhaps their food tastes better?'
Artix then gathered his courage and asked them for a small portion of their dishes in exchange for a portion of his own. He found that their dishes tasted worse than his own. 'I see. They are hypocrites! The whole bunch of them!' Artix felt like he discovered a great secret. 'I swear I won't go to a luxurious restaurant again! But, for now...', "Thank you for the meal Miss. It was delicious," said Artix politely.
If you can't beat them, join them.

Shades of the Moon
I'm rewriting this story! I have taken down Arc 2 and Arc 3 already to avoid spoiling my new novel. The only reason I'm keeping the first 10 chapters is nostalgia; the writing is awkward and the story is not plotted out properly, but it's here if anyone wants to compare it to the new one. If you'd like to read a more professionally written version of this story, I highly suggest checking out my Synergy. Synopsis version too-many-to-count: “I see,” Kiona said. “But . . . you’re changing once again, aren’t you?” The entity considered her question, lifting a clawed hand towards the night sky. They observed the back of their hand idly, watching the glowing orange veins pulse alongside their pitch-black exoskeleton. The wind picked up right then, and Kiona shivered—just as much from the cold as from the savage grin on the creature's face. “That’s right,” the entity said, clenching their hand slowly into a fist. They let out a quiet laugh, staring defiantly at the Moon as it rose from behind the clouds. “We are shades, yet not exactly. Not like the others. Here, in this world, we've become something more. We are the Shades of the Moon.” There was a heartbeat of silence, during which Kiona joined the entity in their skygazing. The light-green Moon loomed over the city, shining like the entity's eyes. It promised otherworldly knowledge and terrible secrets. It promised progress. It promised change. In that moment, Kiona couldn't have imagined anything more beautiful. “Shades of the Moon, huh?” she said, smiling a bit. It had a nice ring to it.

Persona Non Grata
After the events of Dr. Jose Rizal's second novel "El Filibusterismo", the story follows the tale of the former students Basilio and Isagani in the aftermath of the failed assassination plot against the most powerful governing political figures in the Delos Santos residence. Now a licensed doctor and a tenured businessman, Basilio and Isagani returns to the Philippines after their 10-year venture in Spain and in the United States to spearhead a large-scale project for the Spanish crown. For the first time in the history of the country, the Spanish government has allowed Indios to pioneer major public works, and the Filipinos, seeing this as major milestone of their race, welcomed it cheering and with open arms. It was also during that same year when the new Captain-General was appointed to the Philippines following the scandal involving the outgoing Captain-General, who sent an entire battalion of Indio conscripts to be deliberately slaughtered by a gang of tulisanes led by a man going by the name 'Matanglawin' (Falcon-eye). Leonardo Montes, the incoming Captain-General, was both feared and loved by his subjects. A close friend of the king and reputed for upholding honor, discipline and goodwill among his subjects, he won the confidence of the Cortes and of the Filipino people when political unrest arose during the tenure of his predecessor when he represented the Philippines in the high courts and won the case. However, Montes, now at the early days of his tenure, is faced with a huge and pressing problem: the widespread opium trade in the Philippines. Chinese immigration to the Philippines has increased at an exponential rate since his predecessor came to power and so is the circulation of the substance within the country. Souls of Savagery
Souls of Savagery is a series of short stories intended to function much like a comic book series. However, to experience the complete story in a logical order you should read the volumes in numerical order, starting of course, with Volume 1: A Bloodbath by Any Other Name. Each volume is told from a single point of view and that will change from volume to volume. Though, the narrative will require later volumes to return to characters that have been featured previously. I hope you enjoy.
