《Escaping the Fourth Checkpoint》Chapter 4

Checkpoint A; XX7th time
“Whachya doing?” Carice asks.
What’s going on? Where is this place? Am I back to reality?
“Oh… but when will you be done with your work?” Carice asks again.
The small girl in front of me is talking to the empty space in front of her. It’s still another checkpoint, but this hasn’t happened before. It’s a new checkpoint. Calm down. If it’s another checkpoint, I have all the time in the world to investigate. Breathe in. Breathe out.
This is the apartment we lived in before we moved. Together with Alex and Carice, we lived here for a couple of years. It’s quite small now that I see it. A bit cramped.
“Yay! Does that mean we can go play later this afternoon?” With a bright smile, she runs across me (the ghost) and into her room.
“You’d better not break her promise this time.”
That voice. I recognise that voice. I often hear that voice when I am asleep. Alex!
“Don’t push it onto me! I’m busy too!”
“Alex… Alex… I…”
“I’m heading back to work.”
I can finally see Alex again. I dream about this every day and finally, here I am. But it’s painful. Alex can’t see me. In Alex’s eyes, only the me who was oblivious to everything is present. If it means being able to trade my position with the checkpoint-A-me, I won’t mind going through checkpoint one for another hundreds of times, thousands of times.
I missed you so much, Alex.

Checkpoint B; XX8th time
Lying in a hospital bed, Alex is setting up a violin.
“It’s fine. You love hearing me play.”
The first movement of Sibelius’s violin concerto. One of my favourite pieces. Beautiful as usual. Just when the second theme comes up, Alex stops to my surprise. Why would Alex stop at the best part?

“Sure,” Alex says.
Elgar’s Salut d’Amour starts playing. It’s the piece played at our wedding. The sweet sound of the violin echoes in the room, filling me with immeasurable pleasure, and immense pain. This is the past. In reality, Alex will never play the violin ever again. Please, Alex, I beg of you, never stop playing. At least continue to play forever when I’m in this checkpoint.
Soon, the held high-E note stops. Alex puts the violin down and starts unwinding the bow.
“Can you promise me something?”
I must have said yes.
“Promise me to live on after I die.”
“Don’t say that.”
“But we both know it’s true. I know you too well. If you don’t promise me that, I’m afraid you’ll do something you’ll regret.”
“” (When I don’t know what I said then, I’ll denote it by “”)
“That’s not what I meant. I just don’t want to see you be unhappy.”
“”
“Fantastic. Now I can go in peace.” Eyes closing, Alex lies on the bed.
“”
“Hahaha! You should’ve looked at your face, idiot. I’m just sleeping. I… I… can’t… Hahaha!” Alex is tearing up from laughing too hard. “Before you go. One more thing.”
“”
“Yes, it is.”
“”
“The best.”
“”
“Thanks.”
“”
“Bye.”
What did I say back then? I can’t seem to remember.
Hmm… Maybe giving this a good rating can bring back my memory! (Not)

Forging The Beastmen
Our mc gently freezes to death behind some dumpsters like a stray, and has somehow woken up in the body of a beastman child, jailed in a slaver ship.Enslaved, hunted, and scattered, how will he gather the beastmen from their squalor, and bring them to glory alongside the other races? Typical fantasy world with dungeons, magic, monsters, and adventurers. I'm just trying to take out all the game-style systems and rely on wit & skill, whilst putting us in a different perspective. as you can see in the tags I have big ambitions for this story, and I hope to get to that stage without ballsing it all up, looking forward to sharing it with you all
8 83The Ascendancy of Humanity

8 126A Parallel Dream
Due to a recent rating, the story may not be featured or shown anywhere on Royal Road. If you enjoy the story, please rate and favorite. It really helps to keep me motivated and ensure others get to see the story. Thank you! Elijah Arrington was never a person many gave a second thought about. He and his sister, Abigail, lived alone while his parents worked out of town. However, one day, something odd happened while he made a trip into town. Within an instant, Eli is forced into an alternate world where his survival and the survival of those around is in danger. Eli must push forward to protect those that mean everything to him, while also attempting to make it back to his own world. If he doesn't, he risks losing everything. The series will have two chapters published each week. Depending on its popularity, more chapters may be published in quicker succession.
8 162The Last Boss
First, English isn't my first language Second, this story isn't edited or passed by a proofreader, yet. Third, Don't worry that I will finish the story arc, even if there is 1 person reading. Furthermore, I plan the Average Release of each chapter taking from 1 to 2 days. Finally, if you are kind you can comment on the mistake and as soon as I can I will correct. ------ https://imgur.com/a/F4mSA (for whom it may have trouble with the shadows) ----

8 176Battleforged: Book 1 - THE BILLION CREDIT HEIST - An Earth Apocalypse LitRPG Adventure
To do list for the post apocalypse: 1. Survive the orcs rampaging through your city. 2. Survive the pod trying to steal your mind. 3. Pull off the greatest heist of all time. It still amazed Eric how much the world’s end mirrored the movie his obsessed mother had put into production… set to release just three days after the Apocalypse. Only problem was, in the real world there were no chosen ones destined to fight the beast hordes now slaughtering countless millions in every major city on Earth. But humanity wasn’t completely helpless. You really could level up in this brave new world, and embrace magic, peril, and limitless power! So long as you didn’t mind a 90% mortality rate in alien vegetative pods as happy to turn you into topsoil as give you any shot at mastering a System designed to benefit elite invaders. Not fragile humans just trying to survive. But Eric was all about beating the odds… Even if it killed him. Author's Note - I plan in releasing 1 chapter a day for the first thirty days. I will then be posting at least 3 times a week. This story is for anyone who enjoys slow-rise-to-power story arcs! Our hero will start out humbled and desperate, struggling just to survive. And slowly, with time, diligence, and training his butt off, he'll evolve into a powerhouse that will force even his enemies to treat him with respect. And nothing beats the post-apocalyptic blues like stealing an absolute fortune in gold, right out from under the noses of everyone trying to kill you! Enough gold to live like a king… or start a city of your own!
