《How To Tidy Up Loose Ends》8 - Rylan Brightens Up

“HOLD THE FUCK UP! MISERA. YOU’RE TELLING ME YOU SWIPED OFF AN INSIGNIA PIN OF THE FUCKING ARC ON FEIN THAT NIGHT?!?!” Rylan unbelievably yelled.
I looked up into the sky, debating whether it’s time to tell Rylan who his great-grandfather was…
“HEY!” snapped Rylan before letting out an exhausted breath. He pulled me closer and hugged me tighter. “Please tell me what you’re thinking. I just… I can’t…”
I patted his head and caressed his cheek. Looking into his eyes, I asked “How much do you really know about The Arc?”
“Honestly? I thought I knew a lot until you asked that. What should I know about them?”
Sighing once again, I said “I don’t know if you were either afraid to ask, didn’t care to ask, or were too stupid to even notice. If your great-grandfather was a normal civilian, how the fuck did he know how to fight like a mercenary and form an underground group?”
Rylan was stunned silent. I rolled my eyes. “I take it the answer was you were too stupid to notice.”
I bundled us up in a tighter blanket cocoon and began to tell the story of his heroic great-grandfather.
“Avengle was your great-grandmother’s family name. Neral’s original name was Arc. Neral Arc. You know the Arc as Shadow’s rival but do you know in what way and why?”
“… I’ve never really questioned it but every time we ran into them they act like pompous jerks and arrogant assholes. Something about them just rubs me and the whole team the wrong way. They never explain anything but it always seems that their purpose is to go up against us.”
“So in conclusion you know nothing about them.”
“… I guess so…”
“What is Shadow’s purpose?”

“Our purpose? … I’ve… never really thought of that… Revenge?”
“Hah… Seriously, you’re a leader. You should know at least fundamentally what you’re leading for!”
“Well I have you!”
“That’s not good enough! I need someone to be able to take over when I’m not around.”
“But you’ll always be around… And if there really needs to be someone to take charge, we have Ryker for that! Why do you think we have two leads? The brains and the brawns. Together, we’re perfect!”
“Oh. My. Gawd. You’re starting to annoy me.”
“Well I bet you Ryker doesn’t know the original purpose of Shadow either! I mean you’ve been here the longest out of… How… Did you come to Shadow?”
“AND THE IDIOT FINALY OPENS HIS EYES! HUZZAH!”
“No. Misera. Seriously. How did you come to Shadow. I mean I knew you’ve never talked about your blood family but I had always assumed… We had always assumed something bad went down. But even if it did, it still doesn’t explain how you ended up…”
“Ended up… how? Here? Ha….. Do you remember the night we fucked for the first time? Do you remember what I told you then?”

The Ordinary Life of Tom Nobody
[participant in the 2018 NaNoWriMo Royal Road challenge] The Ordinary Life of Tom Nobody is a LitRPG system story where each person transitions into the system, or SCHEMA as this system is known, innocent and unaware of his former life. Following the tutorial, memories return, but by this point, each person has a better chance of accepting their new world. It also gives them an opportunity to start from scratch, fresh without all the baggage of their former lives dictating their decisions in the early stages of the process. I don’t expect this will necessarily turn into an action-packed heroic tale, my intent is to create a character who wants to have just an ordinary, but reasonably comfortable life. I don’t know myself how well he will succeed, there may be twists and Tom may discover some heroism hidden deep inside. I guess we’ll find out together. This is my first writing attempt. I’ve wanted to write all my life, but I’ve never been able to develop the proper discipline to put in the work. I hope I complete the challenge and work my way past this hump. I am writing this as part of the NaNoWriMo Royal Road Challenge. While I will try to self-edit as I go, the challenge requires close to 2,000 words a day, so parts of the story may be rough, and things like plot lines may not make as much sense as any of us would like. If all goes well, and I complete the challenge, I plan on going back through everything and trying to polish it up. In the meanwhile, thank you for reading and I hope I don’t disappoint.

The Archaic Elements
A fantasy world, its own unique power-up system, some mystery aspects to make it look interesting and an MC that should make sense but well messes up, cause plot. Flashy fights. Characters will use their brain, unless it is an arrogant young master that needs to be taught a lesson. The starting is slow and maybe boring. The main MC does not desire great strength or harbor any great ambition. He starts out as a naive, lazy and a boring person. But the story does hold one aspect which will fuel the growth of our MC, which is his boundless curiosity for adventure and his will to explore. The second MC is a reincarnation/transmigration and he has a clear cut aim that he needs to achieve. His past life experiences also becomes a pillar that will help guide the main MC, while his friend also supports him. The writing is slow and steady. I will provide reasonings behind most happenings and keep it a logical story. It's a WIP as I edit the previous chapters even as I release more, so while the content doesn't change, the style and smoothness improve. The current release rate is 3 chapter/week. There is no specific date as I can get sidetracked or forgetful., but I will try to stick to Tues, Thurs and Sunday releases.
