Prologue

Marcus gazed up at the stars again, just like he had every night for the past two thousand years.

His fingers squeezed around the handle to his motorcycle, which sat stationary in the middle of a baren desert. A cool breeze ruffled his black hair, his leather jacket keeping him warm.

His eyes focused on a brilliant, glowing object hurtling 120,000 miles per hour through space, nearly 100,000 miles above the earth’s surface. Scientists today called it Newel’s Comet, the brightest and closest comet to ever pass by the earth.

But Marcus knew it by another name. And he knew this wasn’t its first time to approach the earth.

“Any day now,” Marcus muttered eagerly to himself. “Any day.”
