《Tools of Slaughter: Story of a Human》Ch. 1 : Mad Scientist

"He he he, ha ha ha! I've done it, I've done it!" The man had a head full of white hair streaked with silver cackled as he eyed the line of "humans" that were lined up before him with agitation. He wore a white lab coat that was stained with blood. His face looked of a youthful man but somehow, his movements and aura gave off a wave of madness. He didn't seem to have that livelihood of a young person. His terrible insanity overtook any other first impression one would have of him.
In a room decorated with white tools and furniture everywhere, there was a powerful odor of chemicals and manure. Huge transparent cylindric tanks with human limbs littered around the room, like an exhibition. In the middle of the room was a small clearing, where 7 cyborgs in human skin disrupted the white. The man unbothered by the smells and sights danced around the humans, shouting in delight.
"Now, if only the mutants were that successful..." The man murmured to himself in resignation. He tried all sorts of techniques and ways to create mutants, but none had succeeded so far. His father would be so disappointed. What to do... What to do...
Suddenly, another young man, his eyes lifeless and dull, knocked on the entrance of the lab and entered. On his white lab coat, a number one was printed on.
"Captain, something urgent happened." He spoke robotically.
"Can't you see I'm doing something here Yi?" The captain spun around, annoyed that his moment of celebration had been interrupted.
"I am sorry, Captain. A miracle happened. One of the failed mutants woke up."
---------In Country E------
In a spacious and luxurious room, a young man who had "14" on his lab coat and looked identical to Yi was reporting something to a group of high-class men and women that were sitting at an enormous conference table.

"He did it? He did it!" An elderly man wobbled on his chair with excitement, tufts of silver hair bobbed up and down on his head. While he wore the most luxurious suit out of the entire group and his belongings reeked of extreme wealth, all of his companions shot him looks of disdain.
"Count yourself lucky this time," a tall, charismatic woman dressed seductively in red said in disappointment, her voice laced with contempt. She wore a red mask that covered the upper portion of her face.
"Lil' D, don't be so disappointed. Are you an idiot? You shouldn't be surprised. With that monster kid of his, he has his position secured. Let him be happy for a bit." Another man, this time cool and also full of seductive charm despite his face partially covered by a blue mask, spoke with a mocking smile. His mannerisms seemed like a man who treated bars and love hotels as his home.
"You're the idiot, idiot! Stop calling me that." The woman who was code-named 'D' retorted. She really wanted to smash that ugly face into a pulp whenever she saw him.
A tall man wearing a black metallic mask that covered the top half of his face said in a low but commanding voice, "Enough, let's discuss how we're splitting the items." He seemed to be the leader of the group. One of his hands fiddled with a projected screen, tapping at the pictures of the success; his thin lips curved barely into a smile.
D gave her opinion confidently, "That's easy, Country A is getting the mutant and all the countries each get one success while we keep the rest. We'll tell them about the difference in numbers and let them fight it out."
"The man that created almost all of the war strategies of battles that Country A had won, the reason Country A remains to be the strongest country in the world... I can't wait to see him suffer a painful death. Right, S?" She licked her crimson lips in anticipation.

"... You didn't look at my analyses, did you?" came a soft but sharp voice. S was a petite woman with long, curly hair and had brown eyes hidden behind oversized glasses. She didn't wear a mask, but a disguise. S seemed very ordinary, but she was a very important person in the organization. She was in charge of thinking and decision making, along with the leader, while D and P were the action takers.
"No no no, of course not. I would such a thing, my dear." D chortled softly.
"Sure. But we shouldn't only tell the countries about the number of these things the others are getting. It'll seem too open and suspicious. We should make them think that Country A has gotten so strong as to force us to give them extra items and to shut our mouths." S spoke monotonously.
"But S, you didn't wr- cough... cough..." She always seemed to mess up whenever she goes against S; D grit her teeth and stopped talking.
"Hey," P suddenly interrupted, "What were you saying about the plan? How... would that give us an advantage?''
D regained her former confidence, "Obviously you wouldn't understand. You're so foolish!"
Bam!
The young man slammed the table furiously, "How dare you call ME foolish? You wanna fight?!" He could not remain calm at her provocation. Especially how she defamed him in front of that fat, worthless trash.
"So? I do wanna fight!" D raised her fist in defiance.
S just stared at the bickering pair in silence. This must be youth, she thought. She then quickly glanced down at the projection in front of her before giving the masked man a signal.
The masked man nodded indiscernibly and shot D and P a glare that instantly turned both into meek rabbits. He sat silently for a moment before saying in a quiet voice, "Any objections to the plan?"
"No," the three people replied in unison; subconsciously ignoring the rich man, the "most important person in the country E" or so he calls himself; as the man's beady eyes flickered with hate and despise, though there was a fawning smile glued to his face.

Dear Spellbook (Link to rewrite in blurb)
A rewrite of this story has been posted here: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/49881/dear-spellbook-a-fantasy-time-loop-rewrite Live. Study. Repeat. Tal is a sorcerer in a world where they are killed on sight, traveling with a man charged with carrying out the task. Every night Tal must pretend to study his spellbook to maintain his disguise as a Wizard’s Apprentice. If his disguise slips and his charade is uncovered, it will be his death. Seeking answers to mysteries that arose after his parent’s murder, Tal must accept any allies, no matter the risks, to uncover his family’s secret. But when he wakes up one morning to find himself trapped repeating the same day, he has to overcome his challenges all on his own. This story is an adaptation of a D&D campaign I ran but never was able to complete. I tried to capture the feel of a table-top RPG session —tropes and humor— without relying on the mechanics. This is not a litRPG or gamelit story and no D&D mechanics or system appear in the game. It follows one member of an adventuring party as he deals with the problems with that arise from being an adventurer. Namely, getting roped into adventures. The story has a time loop element, but will eventually move past that. This story explores the magic systems, the history, and the lore of the world through the lens of Tal's entries in his Spellbook and interludes from other written works in the world. New entries on Mondays Credit to JackOfHearts for the cover.

Code Reader Kagami (LitRPG)
Sometimes things happen in this world that we are not in control of. Sometimes we are to a certain degree, and sometimes we are completely in control. However, this is a tale that constantly questions those boundaries. The story follows Kagami, a young programmer, as he winds up in a world almost alien to him. If it were up to him, he would have never visited this world and would rather stay raising his young daughter. Was it through his own actions that he had wound up here? Was it due to several combinations of factors? Or was it something he completely chose. These are questions that constantly haunt Kagami’s mind as he wanders this world and ponders his actions. Unfortunately, the glaring truth of it all refuses to ever look him in the eyes. Each night as he looks up at the night sky, he wonders if the end of this would turn out like the game he made. A tale of Guts and Glory… or would it turn out like he fears, a tale of blood and tears. Regardless of how it turns out, he will one day unveil the truth enshrouding it all. And perhaps in doing so, unveil the fate of his old world, enshrouded by mystery. ___________________________________________________________________________ While this is a typical Isekai started by the infamous truck-kun, the story is most definitely not what is to be taken at face value. I love making tragic twists into these types of stories. For Code Reader Kagami, you'll begin to see a descent into psychological madness. As your hero changes entirely from the moral man he initially was. If you're not a fan of dark aspect stories, this one is not for you. Thank you~
