《Just Your Average Isekai》Just your average waiter

As I walked down the dirt road I couldn’t help but wonder why the hell am I listening to this guy!? It’s not like I have to listen to him, he is just some random skeleton. Even though I honestly felt this way something about Ryfux made me want to listen to him. The way he acted wasn’t great but he seemed to have the best in mind for me. I also really wanted to get revenge on that shitty king for throwing me out.
I had been walking for a couple of hours so far and I had only gotten around an eighth of the way there. Ryfux said it would take about three days to get there walking so I wasn’t all that disappointed. The next two days of traveling were pretty mundane... Well, one kinda interesting thing did happen. On the third day a horse-drawn carriage rode past me.
I only caught a glimpse of the people inside and from what I could gather they were some sorta knights. Two men in boring steel armour and one girl who was wearing similar armour to the one the knight dude from the capital was wearing. I think his name was… Charles? Anyway, she was wearing similar red and black armour but instead of a giant greatsword she had a small rapier on her side. There was something a bit different though, she had a small emblem over her chest but They were going too fast for me to be able to see what it was. Other than that the journey was pretty unremarkable.
When I reached the village I walked straight to the church to see if I could get a price for the Job selection; sadly it was as Ryfux said “100 mild.” It’s not like I knew what that meant though. As I was leaving the church I saw the people from the carriage I saw earlier enter behind me. This time I got a much better look at her emblem; two jetblack swords crossing each other over a silver background. It was very simple yet kind of intimidating.
As I walked by me and the girl locked eyes, only for a second before she dramatically turned her head away as if she were in some sorta drama show. She seemed kinda pissed off for some reason but I just shrugged it off. I figured it was None of my business. I figured out later that it kinda was my business, “my fault” is probably a better term but I’m getting ahead of myself.
After that I walked around town asking local farmers if they needed any help… they didn’t. It reminded me of going around door to door for whatever charity my school was making us collect money for. Weirdly happy memories considering how much I hated doing those.
Anyways after I had just about given up hope when I saw it: a quaint little tavern that looked straight out of an old western. I thought I may as well try and walked into the bar. As soon as I pushed open the door the smell of booze wafted by and the sound of glasses clinking, laughing, and an all around good time filled my ears.
It was mostly old men knocking back a few beers after a long day in the fields but there were a few younger guys and girls who had swords and were wearing leather armour. Adventurers… I thought. I wasn’t all that familiar with the term but I heard it in some manga I had read. They matched the image I had in my mind perfectly.

After looking around for a few seconds I walked towards the bar. Behind the bar was an older gentleman with a heavy build, short brown hair, and some stubble around his chin, and a young girl probably in her late twenties with long black hair. She is what I would call conventionally attractive. Actually that was probably a bit of an understatement, She was by far one of the most beautiful women I had ever seen.
She had a very mature look and she was quite tall, probably around 5’11 but it was the good kind of tall. Anyways I walked up to the old man(much too inexperienced to talk to the beautiful woman) and asked him if there was any way he’d let me work for him. “Sure, I don’t see why not. I’ll tell Nisha to go in the back and interview you. Just follow her” he responded. I thanked him and followed the black haired woman to a back room.
So her name is Nisha? I thought as I sat down in the wooden chair across from her. “So… who are you?” she asked. It was a fair question, I did just randomly show up out of nowhere.
“My name is Gill, I'm a traveler”
“Ok, what’s your job?” she responded.
“I don’t have one”
“You… don’t have one?”
“No, I don’t have one, is that weird?”
“Yes”
“Funnily enough, that why I need the job, so I can pay to get a job from the church”
“Uh… ok… do you have any experience as a waiter/bouncer/bartender?”
“No…”
It went on for a while after that so I won’t bore you with the details. She was very nice but also a bit weird and she asked weird questions like “do you have any experience fighting” and “are you affiliated with the kingdom” but I thought nothing of it.
Finally after the lengthy interview process she said “alright kid, you’re hired, we’ll pay ya 5 mild an hour. You start in 5 minutes, put this on.” She threw a red apron at me, similar to the one she was wearing. It had an emblem of sorts on the front of some sort of mythical beast with a chicken body and a lion's head. Kinda creepy but also kinda funny lookin.
“Wait 5 minutes? I don’t even know what I'm doing”
“You’ll figure it out,” she said as she closed the door behind her. So I pulled the apron over my head and followed her. She brought me to the kitchen and handed me a plate with some food on it and said “bring this to table five, all the tables have numbers on them so they’ll be easy to find.”
So I brought it out to table number five and I’d like to say it went off without a hitch but I instantly got yelled at by a customer. He was pretty drunk so I really couldn't understand what he said but I think I put the food in the wrong place. He kept yelling and yelling until I was just fed up.
I obviously couldn’t yell back so I just turned around and started walking but as soon as I did I accidentally ran into someone. We both fell onto the floor though im sure it didn’t hurt much for them because they were wearing full plate armour. I said “oh, I'm very sorry, I didn’t see you there” as I looked up to see who it was.
It was none other than the knight lady from the carriage and behind her were the two knights wearing iron armour. Before I could even think about it the two knights had grabbed me by each arm and started dragging me away. As they were about to drag out of the door I heard someone say “enough.”

Even though the bar was still very loud, the girl's voice filled the room.
Everything went quiet and stopped dragging me. It was almost as if time itself had stopped. Me and the armour clad lady locked eyes and she reached out her hand to help me up. I grabbed it of course, and as I began to stand. The bar quickly resumed its loudness. After a few more brief milliseconds of eye contact the lady and her men sat down at one of the tables and began talking like nothing ever happened.
Hands down one of the weirdest things I had ever experienced. I shrugged it off and walked behind the bar to the kitchen but before I could get there the old bartender stopped me. “Do you know who that is?” he said in his deep husky voice. “No? Is she important?” I responded, obviously confused. “Go to the back room and wait there, I'll join you in 5 minutes” he said. “Ummm… ok…” I responded.
I sat down in one of the chairs in the backroom and waited for what felt like much longer than five minutes when he finally came and sat down across from me.
“How much do you know about the kingdom of Reolan?” he asked.
“Absolutely nothing, why?”
“What? Then where are you from?”
This seemed like a pretty simple question on the surface but it was honestly pretty loaded. I couldn’t tell him I was from another world could I? And I just said I know nothing about this kingdom so I obviously couldn’t say I was from here. So I decided to lie.
“I’m from a country in the west”
“Oh, Nikai?”
“Yep that's the one”
“Well, since that's the case let me tell you a little bit about the history of our country. About 200 years ago Us, the Nikkai Dukedom, and the Leonheart kingdom went to war with the demons. We were in a never ending battle with them until one day a “hero” from another world came and changed the tides of war.
This hero along with another man named Ryan Zerco fought hard and ended up killing the demon lord who controlled all the demons but Sadly during the battle... the hero tragically lost his life. Or so they’d like you to believe.
The truth is, the kingdom of Reolan promised the hero a noble status and wealth in order to defeat the demon lord and when he did he was not rewarded with nobility. Instead he was forced to fake his death and live out the rest of his life in seclusion. Because of their efforts in the war the Zerco family garnered extreme fame instead of the hero. I mean, what’s more impressive, fighting the demon lord and dieing or fighting the demon lord and living.
Since then, the Zerco family has controlled the Royal guard with the Eldest son always at the head. Currently it is Charles Zerco who runs it. Anyway that girl out there is a member of the royal guard and a high ranking one at that. Be careful around her and her guards.”
“Ho… Holy shit… Wait, how did you know she is high ranking?”
“The emblem on her chest, the rank depends on the color of the swords”
Lieutenant General - brown
Major General
- Green
Brigadier General - White
Colonel
- Green
Lieutenant Colonel
- Blue
Major
- Orange
Captain
- Black
First Lieutenant
- Silver
Second Lieutenant
- Gold
So she’s a captain huh… The workday finished with me only working for about three and a half hours and only spilling beer on one person. I'm just kidding… it was two… Regardless of that I had a good time and didn’t get fired. I ended up earning 17 Mild. I got a room at an inn for 5 mild a night. The quality wasn’t great but it was definitely better than that shabby old mattress at Ryfux’s place.
As I drifted off to sleep I thought back on my shift at the bar. I overheard one of the guys say “-huhg- I hear that la-huhg- that lady came here to collect the taxes-huhg-”(-huhg-=drunk hiccuping) He was way too drunk to trust his words but if that was true why did they send such a high ranking person. I mean, why not just send a regular knight? Something shady was happening.
This all seemed pretty weird but to be honest I didn’t care. All I wanted to do was get a job and get out of there. So that's what I did, I worked hard and kept my head down for the next four days and made barely enough money to get a job. When I did however get the money I went straight to the church and who did I see there? None other than the knight and her two henchmen.
When I entered they were speaking to the priest about something or other and one of the henchmen shot me a dirty look. I smirked in response. It’s always a great day if I can piss off an idiot. I sat on one of the benches and waited for their conversation to end.
I only caught the last couple words but it seemed to be about money “If you don’t have it by next week it will be more than just money that we take” is what she said right before leaving. As she walked out she shot me a grin and both her henchmen scowled. It was hilarious.
I stood from the bench and approached the priest. As I got closer he pulled a small book from his back pocket and said “let’s get started shall we.” I nodded in response as he placed the small book on a pedestal in the middle of the room. “Ok, 100 mild in advance please,” he said, staring at the book. I reached into my pocket and grabbed some coins out of a cloth bag. I placed them on the table beside him.
“Ok, I'm done with the calibration. Put your hand over this Rykios(Rykios is their version of the bible) and focus on your heartbeat” he said in a very monotone voice. He must have done this hundreds of times so I'm sure it was pretty boring.
A bright purple light flashed and I opened my eyes. The priest looked stunned “It appears you have earned the legendary job of Ne-” wait.
I should probably tell you how jobs work first. The rank for jobs is determined by how many people have that job at the time. The ranks are the same as the ranks for skills(Common, Rare, Ultra Rare, Legendary, and Unique), for a job to be common more than 100000 people have to have it, for rare its less than 50000 people, Ultra rare is less than 10000, Legendary is less than 100, and as the name implies Unique is 1 person.
A job allows you to unlock skills that can only be used with that job. So if I were a swordsman I could probably have skills like [Advanced Swordsmanship] and stuff like that. Job can evolve into a better version of that Job if you complete a certain list of things. Ok back to the story. “It appears you have earned the legendary job of [Necromancer]” he said, clearly surprised. “Is this job rare? You seem surprised” I asked. “Kid… I’ve been doing this for 53 years and this is my first time seeing a [legendary]. I would recommend you don’t tell people about this” he said, still astonished. I Nodded my head and thanked him before promptly leaving.
When I pushed open the church doors I saw something: the female knight leaned against her carriage at the bottom of the steps. We made eye contact for only a second before I looked away and kept walking. “So what level is your job?” the knight asked out of nowhere. “Are you talking to me?” I asked back and she responded with a nod. “It’s… uh… rare” I responded.
I was lying of course, just like the old priest told me to but I’m not sure why. “I see... I thought better of you. Riko, open the door” she responded. The door to her carriage krept open and she jumped in giving me one final look before they trotted off. “I thought better of you” What the hell is that supposed to mean?
Without giving it a second thought I left and headed back for the cave.

Riftwalker
Legend speaks that a roaring force of insatiable abyss lies beneath the peaceful overworld. Named the Rift after its chasm-like entrances, this unexplored void has consumed the underneath for eons. What had seemed just a myth crawled out of unreality in the form of eldritch creatures. Reborn as something not entirely human, mankind rejected the boy. Thrown into the Rift by people who feared him, he had to live in a world run by monsters as a newborn. Surviving, however, wasn't his only difficulty as he soon had to decide whether he would save the people who banished him or simply idle as the Rift engulfed all life. As of chapter 9, Riftwalker is on a very small hiatus. I'm very busy with work atm :( Here are a couple of things to expect: Lots of action and exploration! Diverse and refreshing creatures; There are good and evil. Satisfying progression and coming of age. The protagonist stands out but isn't overpowered. There are some litRPG elements, but it's not a determinant factor. The fights are decided through one's combat skill and experience and not stat-checking. Oh, and some other info: There is a bit of gore, but nothing disturbing. Occasionally, there will be images of the scenery and landscape. Chapters will be around 1,5k to 2k words long, and the releases will probably be relatively slow, sorry.
