As they approached the gates of the city the carriage slowed down and several what seemed to be city guard's approached , but with a quick look at a letter Mo Xiaoli gave them , they respectfully bowed and made way for them.
Seeing this Jinhai couldn't help but mess with Nie a little " Ehh boss, it seems that your father really hasn't lost his touch."
"Jinhai..."said Nie as he warned Jinhai with a glance, but Mo Xiaoli didn't seem to mind as he laughed."Hahaha.... little Nie, you really know how to flatter someone."
"I try....
"Heh....I try he says.
Well, even though you may have been somewhat jocking, the name of the Mo family of Half Moon city is very influential. It provides most of the medicine and medicinal services to the city guard and a good portion of the normal populace. It's reach on people is maybe bigger than that of the martial families in this time of peace. So, little Jinhai, you are really right a say that I haven't lost my 'touch'."
"..........
".........
Jinhai and Nie both lowered their heads, Jinhai somewhat regretful about what he said, but he didn't say anything and they just went inside the Half Moon city.
.........
In about 15 minutes and after passing numerous streets, they went to a mansion on the inner side of the city , their mansion, a two story building that could house more than three families. Once again Jinhai couldn't help but marvel at the luxury he was seeing, but he didn't have time to stare as they were escorted inside by very respectful servant's.The servants all bowed towards Xiaoli and Nie, but ignored Jinhai who immediately understood the situation and moved to the back of Nie as a dutiful bodyguard. From the back he focused on the conversation that was going on.

"Greetings master, young master. " said the servant in the front " We've been expecting you for some time now, it's good that you've finally arrived."
"Mmmmmm....." was the only thing Mo Xiaoli said as he scratched his chin. A moment of silence prevailed , but the servant begun to speak once again.
"The other masters have been expecting your arrival with great interest and have left word for you to go meet them as soon as possible. They be waiting for master at the Cai Pavilion. The meeting is this evening, if you wish to attend."
"Ohhh.....is that so? "Once again Mo Xiaoli didn't give a normal answer and he just entered the inside of the mansion, the others only following behind him. He did a little tour of the building and strangely dismissed both Nie and Jinhai as he continued to explore the mansion with a strange calm look on his face. Nie and Jinhai on the other hand had were even more confused than the servants as they sat beside each other with strange looks on their faces.
"Ehh...Nie, do you have any ideas what is going on? Isn't your father acting a little strange at the moment?"
Nie looked around for a moment and answered with a whispered "I know....
It seems that father has something in his mind that I don't know about, but it shouldn't concern us; though what you should do is refrain from your remarks in front of father. Can you really not joke around father?"
"Haha.... that. I get it, I get it, it was my fault, but you can't say he overreacted a little bit, but I understand."
Nie shook his head" You understand? I hope so, because if something like that happens again , I can't guarantee you won't get punished. Sigh, in the last year's you really have gotten more childish....

"And you have gotten more serious, my friend." seriously said Jinhai as he leaned back into the wooden chair and let out a sigh. " So, what is our next move? Do we push on with our plan to make some money with your medicine and start building a force of cultivators , or should we wait and see what happens first?"
"I don't know. Father's decision could upset the balance for those decisions so I think we should wait, though I doubt we will have to wait for long. "
"Ohhhhhhh..... now that is making me excited!" said Jinhai as he closed his eyes , but instead of seeing darkness he saw a gigantic golden wheel composed of numerous geometrical patterns. It completely filled his vision besides a couple of small words. ' Small Heavenly Rotation '
Seeing this Jinhai smiled and with but a thought he willed the wheel to move , and as per his wish, the wheel started spinning in a clockwise direction.

8 89Flashback: Siren Song
The year is 1969. Yancy Lazarus—bluesman, gambler, future world-class mage and fix-it man—is just a dumb, unlucky kid serving with the 3rd Battalion 3rd Marines in Vietnam. With just a few weeks left to go until Yancy gets shipped back to the States, he’s just trying to keep his head down and avoid a body bag—no mean feat in Nam. But when his squad is tasked with conducting a routine patrol deep in enemy territory, everything goes to nine kinds of hell, and he quickly sees his chances at survival slipping away. When the radio operators start to pick up some funky, dirty ol’ blues all the way out in the backcountry, it’s a nice change of pace. At least until the men in Yancy’s squad start losing their minds, turning on each other with murderous intent as the music works its deadly power within them. Convinced it’s some kind of new psychological warfare initiative, the squad leader forces the men to push deeper and deeper into the Vietnamese jungle, obsessed with locating the music’s source. What they find, however, isn’t some new technology, but an ancient spirit awoken by the terrible war. Even worse, the music is changing Yancy too, awakening something buried inside of him. Only one thing is certain, nothing is ever going to be the same.See how it all began … *** PRAISE FOR SIREN SONG:Hunter's writing is as low-down, gritty, and insidious as the blues Yancy Lazarus loves. Just like the mysterious music drifting through the jungle toward Yancy's squad, Siren Song will get under your skin and sink its hooks into your mind. —eden Hudson, Author of Halo Bound (the Redneck Apocalypse series) *** Hey everyone, this is James Hunter. This story isn't a full length novel--its a novella length work (25K words), and is part of my Yancy Lazarus series. Its already free on Amazon, so I thought I'd post chapters here for the good folks of Royal Road. If you don't want to wait for updates or would prefer to read it on Kindle, you can pick it up for free here: https://www.royalroad.com/amazon/B01066TLC0
