《Silver Lucky's Lovely Wubbles》WP 112 - Needs more Salt

Divine Sea Salt Incorporated held a meeting which had all the head honchos attending. All expenses paid as their new Milestone was just hours away. Johanna Zellberg smiled as she saw her staff standing around the Crowne Plaza Hotel, built on the beachfront, and only ten kilometers from their desalination planet. The heat-treated water could effortlessly separate the desired salts from the brine. While the operation was pricey, advancements, and the patents, paved a way for their gold standard products. Divine Sea Salt from the Dead Sea. Treated, and combined with their secret sauce, made headway into the elites of the elites. Which trickled down to the masses. It was funny how advertising worked. You tell people what was good, they would shrug. You tell people that anything beyond their 33.33% Dead Salt mixture was bad, and they listened. Have a celebrity tell them, and they obeyed. Johanna smiled as their starlets arrived. The best influences in the world. The established highway to easy success. Well, easy if you had the proper credentials and capital. Hotel staff handed everyone a glass of Piper-Heidsieck non-vintage Brut Cuvee. Expensive but artfully perfect and it was flowing freely. The bubbly drink was a great appetizer to what was coming for both the evening and for the rest of the year. The attendees were all cheerful as they drank and chatted. She checked her wristwatch. The simple, and elegant, timepiece showed it was 7:55 pm. Showtime. The fashion-conscious woman tapped at her glass, quickly quieting the room. Her ability to remember faces made it easy to hold a grudge, and everyone knew it. “Ladies, gentlemen. I am happy to announce that, as of 8 pm, we will have liberated our 10th billion tonnes of salts. With this, we have become twice as prominent as even the second-largest producer. From beauty products to household goods, we are Divine to support the people,” Johanna spoke loud, clear, and slow. She smirked at her joke but didn’t expect anyone outside of the company to understand. She knew some in the room were on the dull side. A tragedy of prioritizing only one’s beauty, instead of cultivating brains, brawn, and a fashion sense. Some starlets were straight-up tacky. “As we have now become indispensable to the world, I raise a toast. To Us. Who have sacrificed so much to ensure our ship remained steady, despite the rocky waters when we launched the company,” Johanna smiled as she raised her glass, and eyed the real mover and shakers. Her executive arm. The people raised their glasses. Words of praise, cheer, and the occasional whistle filled the room. Johanna Zellberg smiled and took a long sip. It was good to drink, but bad to have too much. A single photo of drunk dullard had ended careers before. [Thunk!] Johanna turned to the sound. A man was tapping at the window. Most likely homeless and drunk. Two things she disliked in other people. It was fine to be homeless. Everyone fell on hard times. To fall and drown your sorrows in alcohol? That was a sign of surrender. To give up. The man even looked bloated. From his failing liver, no doubt. Johanna Zellberg was no quitter. She brushed aside her annoyance. Hotel security would remove the man soon enough. Ugly as he may be. Then she would have a private word with the manager. [Thunk!] The man tried again. The president of Divine Sea Salts Inc took in a breath and smiled. She was about to say more when she realized she had lost the crowd. Everyone was staring at the glass now. Even those who knew better than to get distracted. [Thunk!] [Thunk!] [Thunk!] She turned in irritation. She would get the manager and inform him of his derelict of duties. [Crash!] [Aaaaahh!] The sound of shattering glass filled the room. As did the screams of the guests. Johanna stood in shock as the dozens of bloated forms waddled in. Their bodies hardened with gypsum. Hydrated calcium sulphate, her mind supplied. How? What was this? A man tried to be brave and ran at the first bloated one with a chair. Foolish, her mind supplied. These were unknown things, and that was enough for caution. The bloated man broke, his head and arm shattered as the chair struck, and then stuck. The other arm reached and grabbed at the young man. It held him there as the nearest one reached him. They drowned his screams as the guests panicked. They ran for the doors or the far side of the room. The sound of gunfire filled the distance. There were guards on the premise. To ensure the guest’s safety. Which meant that this wasn’t a local problem. This was a much larger problem. Johanna’s mind watched as they slowly filled the room. She was ushering people out as she made her way to the back doors. Some bloaties were wearing green armor. Copper? Brass? Potentially patina. The tarnish via oxidation. More worry some were the swords and spears they still held. That was much denser than gypsum. It could cut open human flesh without issues, and chairs were poor shields. “Leave as soon as possible, and either go to the rooms or head out towards the town. If you are anxious, Neve Zohar is to the south!” Johanna said as she broke away from the group. Her purse slapped against her hips as she power-walked away. “You! Go to your room and stay there,” She shooed away those frozen in the corner. They immediately ran away as she pointed to the back door. She wouldn’t go to her room. Her bet was to head to the larger town. Neve Zohar would be further inland and by the major highway. Which lead to Arad, a major city. The military would have a response in hours. Which means everyone was relatively safe. The hallway was full of sounds. Emergency fire alarm. People screaming. Echoes of panic. She ignored them as she took a right and exited through the emergency exit. It was a direct connection to the parking lot. She shoved open the door, and as she had predicted, no bloaties. Though people were scrambling to get into their cars. She walked to her rented car. The Aventador SVJ greeted her with a gleam of its steel blue finish. She smiled as she fished out her keys. Two presses on the unlock and the butterfly doors slid out and up. The parking lot was becoming crowded. The bloaties as a group was reaching around the building. It was a horde. She concluded. Hundreds, if not thousands were easy to see. They walked out of the Dead Sea as if they were leaving a tent. Her mind raced as she struggled to understand how this was possible. Wait. Didn’t that man visit her a year ago? Dark. Mysterious. Leered at her. He spoke only to her low cut top, and she doubted he realized she had eyes. At least until he left. His gaze was intense. She recalled having security escort him out, but he had already left. “The salt is a seal,” she muttered. That was all she could recall. The business card was on her app, but that required a safe space to look through. She had a ton of those. She chuckled as she wondered if there were enough cards for each bloatie here. One was meters away. Johanna looked around and noted that she was one of the few left in the lot. The rest had either gotten into the cars or had already left. No time to play hero then. She slid into the seat. The leather seat was warm to the touch. The smell of flowers greeted her as she pushed the start button. The car rumbled to life, and Johanna touched a flower in the passenger seat. One of several bouquets. Gifts for her big celebration. A milestone for the company. Johanna snorted as she shifted from park to drive. The engine purred as she pulled out of the parking log and onto the exit to the highway. This was a milestone alright. Tragically, it was to be less about Divine Sea Salts Inc, and more about this zombie invasion.

A Virtual Invasion
An invasion from another dimension is shut down by an Empire's traitor and the world has a scant few decades to build the strength to resist a multidimensional Empire. How will the world fair when no one even knows its doom is one barred gate away? Fortunately, the traitor has a plan. Maybe with a bit of luck and planning, he can build a force to defend the world without anyone realizing it. Author's Thoughts: What is litRPG (From wikipedia) - LitRPG, short for Literary Role Playing Game, is a literary genre combining the conventions of MMORPGs with science-fiction fantasy novels.[1] LitRPG is a literary genre where games or game-like challenges form an essential part of the story. A LitRPG work simultaneously narrates the story of characters inside and outside of the game-world. At least some of the characters in a LitRPG novel therefore understand that they are playing a game: they are 'meta-aware'. So, while Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is a fantasy novel, a book about people creating avatars and interacting in a Lord of the Rings MMORPG would be a LitRPG novel. Why do I read them? You know, I am not too sure. I love MMOs. I played them, quit them, joined up and repeated the cycle. They are fun! They are a massive waste of time but so are most games. Do I want to read about someone else playing them? Sort of?The advent of VR and the possibility of VR someday becoming so immersive that you can't tell them from reality sets the imagination on fire. What if this could be life? But most stories fall short. At the end of the day the protagonist hangs up his VR helmet and goes to have dinner with his mom and dad or other family and it becomes meaningless. It's like the story that ends because the main character woke up and nothing you read matters. There have been some books that explore the concept of the intersection of reality and total immersion VR. Enders Game is a classic. There were a few others that escape me but they exist, however, the cross between the game and reality is weak.So what if the game was real? The technology needed for total immersion VR is so advanced that by the time we reach that goal technology should have naturally evolved to include several items. You must have direct neural input. You simply can't have a total immersion (all senses and perfect presence) experience without this basic prerequisite. If you have direct neural access, you can probably do neat things like feed knowledge and skills directly to that person. You can undoubtedly do many horrible things as well. Muscles are controlled by the brain. If you control the brain why would you let the body just sit there and rot? A person that sits unmoving for 24 hours a day will have their body whither away just like a coma patient. However, if you control the brain you could control the muscles. On a basic level, this would be isometric impulses, working muscle group against muscle group to avoid atrophy. Taken to its logical conclusion you would be able to gain muscle mass and program muscle memory. The flip side is that you could remote control their body... but let's not go there. So what would people do if it were real? Well, they would probably limit and regulate it since the drawbacks are very obvious. Even if you look at the basic aspects of this you can see some negative possibilities. Look at the Sword Art Online anime. Personally, I think they missed the boat by putting a bomb in the VR helmet. Do you really need a bomb when you have direct access to the brain? So what kind of events would you need to have a situation where the obvious drawbacks haven't been explored? Maybe a society where the advancement of technology has so far outstripped the explorations of its applications that ignorance was truly bliss? Okay, so I had to put in an alien invasion to kickstart the premise, but that was just one of the possibilities.

RETURN, A Dark Lord story.
Return, Synopsis In the Triangulum Galaxy, one of a number of galaxies controlled by the Empire of The DARK LORD, JENNA OF CHRISTOS finds herself on the run after she killed a patrolman. Becoming pilot on a pirate craft, several years later she and other pirates are devastated by attacks of the Imperial Legion and are now trying to regroup. Seeking funds that will help them hide out for a time, their leader THURGOD DRISTA and JENNA meet with a PROFESSOR of galactic history who gives them information, a map and an ancient artifact described as a singing stone. He tells them that this could lead them safely to a legendary treasure trove, called THE DARK LORDS HOARD, on the forbidden planet TRILLA. The hoard is supposed to belong to the ruler of the empire who vanished close to one thousand years before and is presumed to be gone. The treasure is believed to be hidden in a tunnel accessible from the planet surface but no one who has gone into the tunnel has ever come out alive or sane. Leaving the pirate hideout immediately after the meeting and avoiding a major attack by the legion, the pirates travel to the galactic rim for supplies and to leave a false trail. With them they take the PROFESSOR and ILISA, a serving girl. However CAPTAIN TRASKA the commander of a Legions task force called Detachment T, has guessed the pirates intentions and tracked them to the rim. The pirates leave on their next leg to TRILLA unaware that CAPTAIN TRASKA with his force of heavy cruisers, is already there and lying in wait for them. Allowing the pirates to land, including an unexpected second pirate ship, CAPTAIN TRASKA sends a force of troopers to capture both craft and their guards. Before they can do this, THURGOD, the PROFESSOR and others, numbering thirteen altogether and led by JENNA entered the tunnel complex. JENNA, warned by ILISA that she must be the one to hold the singing stone, carries it in the hope that it will guide her and her companions past the many dangers in the tunnel. Shortly afterward, VIS VISTRICER the Legions overall commander travels to Trilla in an armoured planetoid, a spacecraft as large as a moon. On his arrival at TRILLA, VIS VISTRICER meets with CAPTAIN TRASKA but before they can do much, they are both surprised by one of the LADIES OF THE CIRCLE who is waiting for the outcome of what is happening in the tunnels. In the tunnels, JENNA leads THURGOD and the rest of party through many dangers and tests. Four are killed in the tunnels but the rest finally come to their goal where, to their surprise, in a cavern they meet the DARK LORD who is alive and very well. He has been waiting for them so he can return to the Empire. JENNA finds out that the patrol officer is alive and that she and many others have been manipulated all this time by the DARK LORD. She also finds out that ILISA, whose real name is JURA, is a member of the CIRCLE OF LADIES and was sent to teach JENNA many years before on her home planet of Christos. The DARK LORD restores and fulfills a promise to release JURA from her service as a LADY. He next has each pirate declare their own fate and takes them to the surfaces of TRILLA. There, at their election, he executes two of the pirates while JENNA is pardoned and some have the death penalty reprieved. The rest will face the courts of the Legion. VIS VISTRICER is raised to the rank of STAR COMMANDER, the highest rank in the Legion while TRASKA becomes a COMMODORE. The DARK LORD returns to Tihab, the administrative centre of the empire. There he takes up his residence in a surprised and disconcerted imperial palace. JENNA is returned by COMMODORE TRASKA to the planet Christos where she is welcomed by the planets rulers and her family, some of whom were aware of some of what was happening.
