《Apocalypse Remnant`》The bond of siblings
Advertisement
Jason's parents had left the mortal realm 2 years ago in a car accident and had left him and his sister alone with no one to depend upon, they didn't know any relatives as their parents had run away from home due to family problems and now they lived all alone. Now his parent's insurance paid for his and his sister's studies and also their hostel fees. Their lives after the passing away of their parents had been terrible but the siblings had made each other their emotional pillars helping them stay strong.
The college in which Jason was studying right now was one of the most prominent colleges in this city. It had a very visually appeasing campus, filled with paved roads and greenery all around the campus. The campus itself was divided into 4 sections, the engineer dept., commerce dept., biology dept., and arts dept. with each section being as big as a small college itself. Currently, he was in the engineering dept. and it would take 10 minutes to go to the bus stand and he'll have to visit the guard's cabin on the way to find the key to the bus.
On seeing that the timer indicated 24 minutes left he broke into a mad sprint to the guards' cabin. Due to the time constraint, he'll have to call his sister while running. He dials his sister's number and Waits until the call connects. His sprinting form with a mobile phone on his ear starts turning heads as students start wondering what's up with this guy for him to be in such a frenzy.
"What's up brother" comes the voice from his phone making him concentrate on the following conversation that's going to happen as he had to make sure his sister understands the severity of the situation.

"How are you doing lill, sis," he asked with a huffed up voice, he was starting to go out of breath due to the massive physical strain on his generally un-worked body.
"I'm doing great but what's up with you, your voice seems off… what happened, brother??"
"Where are you now"
"I'm in the playground it's our free period"
"What I'm going to tell you is no joke and is the truth and you will have to trust me on this" Jason spoke in a grave voice startling Aiden, she couldn't imagine what made her brother speak so seriously.
"The world we know is going to end and there will be zombies everywhere in approximately 30 minutes, and if you think it is a joke then so be it but for me please take some water and food with you and hide in an empty classroom with secure doors and windows and take some blunt weapon like a rod or a baseball bat with you. And please go alone."
" Stop messing around brother. You've become quite a good actor brother you gave me chills from such a heavy prank" Aiden fake laughed over the phone, the graveness in her brother's voice was too real and was starting to scare her.
"Do as I say Aiden it's no joke "Jason spoke with steel in his voice. Aiden was really scared now, her brother never calls her by her name, he always calls her little sister. This whole situation now was really scaring her, giving her a small panic attack as tears well up in her eyes.
"B…Brother p…please stop scaring me" her broken voice made him realize that she didn't have the system like him to calm him down.
"Shhhh lill sis, don't cry, you're my strong girl who stood strong with me when mum and dad left us. We both stood strong then, so what's a zombie apocalypse for us "he started with a soft voice which turned into a strong voice filled with confidence and sturdiness calming his sister, making her feel that even if someday the sky falls down her brother would be there to hold it up for her.

"Okay brother I'll do as you say, I'll wait for you in here."
"And don't forget to take a charger for your phone with you, it may take me a day to reach you"
"Okay brother and please take care"
"Will do lill sis" Jason ended the call with a relieved sigh. He was happy that now his sister will be safe for the time being but he'll have to reach her school fast, on any normal day it would take him 6 hours to reach her school but after the apocalypse, every road will be blocked with cars making it insanely hard to travel places.
He stopped running as he had reached his destination, the guards' room was right in front of him and the bus keys for each bus were hanging in a corner. He cleaned up his ruffled up appearance and opened up the door.
A bulked-up guard with a bloated stomach was sitting on the chair with his head turned down as he was giving his undivided attention to his mobile phone which was playing a music video of some sort. He went up to him and on the way, he brushed past the racks containing bus keys and secretly grabbed one.
"Sir which direction is the commerce dept," he asked in a fake uneasy voice acting as if he was a fresher who was asking for directions.
"To the left" the guard didn't even raise his head as he spoke in an irritated voice.
"thank you sir" Jason spoke in a merry tone as he couldn't imagine that grabbing the keys would be so easy.
As he made his way out of the room he could hear the guard mumble under his breath about stupid freshers and what not.

Outlook: The Stars (Consciousness Unbound Book 1)
The year is 2152. Rune Yahui is a nineteen-year-old failure, not having gained entrance to college or the military, with no significant prospects in life. Even worse, Rune is the poorest of the poor, hailing from the mega-slums of New Southern Chicago, the lowest pit of America. In a desperate last-ditch attempt to gain a future more lustrous than toiling the rest of his days away in abhorrent conditions in one of the near sweat-shop level factories that dot the megapolis, Rune signs up for the Virtual Citizen program, a program to cull the excessive world population by transferring just their brains into a video game. In a stroke of rare luck, Rune is admitted into the program and happily submits himself to the surgery and digitization process. Unfortunately for him, he wakes up several hundred years later than he expected... or does he? **Author's Note** This isn't a type of story typical to RRL. You may have noticed LitRPG in the tags, but it's a relatively minor element in the story until later. You may also notice Slice of Life is in the tags. This story is going to be slow and there won't be any power tripping until way later if at all. The focus will be on character development. That doesn't mean I won't still have action/excitement, however. I encourage you to give the story a try. Maybe it will be your thing, maybe it won't. Thanks for even taking the time to read this, and if you do give my fiction a try, I hope you enjoy it. If you don't, well, I hope you find something that you do enjoy. Happy reading!
