《VOID REQUIEM》Chapter 28: Words of encouragement

Sora and Miku slowly strolled towards the back of the mountain. Miku was on her hologram laptop taking a scan of the sight while Sora was on the back, staring at his surroundings. Suddenly it hit Sora. It was a time he was now alone with a girl. He also realised that the author had forgotten to make him a perv like he truly was. It was time for action. He cleared his throat one more time before saying,

“So, how is it going?” he said in a deep voice.

Don’t answer it Miku, don't answer it

Miku said to herself as she felt a sense of discomfort but ignored it.

“Hey. Are you a Wi-Fi?”

“What?”

“Cause I can totally feel a connection”

All it took was one cringe line to Miku be officially on bad terms with Sora.

“I know as a lady you find it hard to ignore me, but it seems you're those pure types, huh? Oh well, not to worry,” he kept on saying in his flirting voice.

“If you speak one more sentence, I swear to god imma blow your fucking head off,” she said, pointing her laser gun towards his head.

“Hey now… let’s not get jumpy.” Sora felt a little afraid of seeing her action.

“Don’t think all women are easy. Got it?”

“Yep, I sure got it….. for now,” he said.

“What did you say?”

“Nothing,” Sora instantly replied.

“Ah, we are here.” Sora said as he noticed a hole in front of them. Both stood in front of the giant hole Sora had once fallen down in.

“Are you sure this is the spot?”

“I… Think… yea definitely”

“That was an awkward pause so I'm assuming it's a no.” she said, walking away from the sight.

“Oh, come on. It's hard to remember a fucking hole in the middle of the fucking mountain. Like what do you want me to do? Wait for my legs to slip and another fucking hole to opEEEEEENNN!”

Before he could finish, the ground had cracked as he fell down inside once again.

“Well, I guess that answers it,” she said, looking back.

Using her technologically advanced bag, she flew down toward the inner cave.

“Where is he now?!” she said in a pissed voice. Suddenly, she heard noises of rocks being lifted. Sora seemed to lift rocks in front.

“What the hell are you doing?!” Miku said.

“Trying to make a path towards the entrance of those hallways.”

“There are hallways?”

“Yea”

As Sora was lifting one rock after another, a sudden voice echoed in his ear.

“You hear that?”

“Hear what” Miku said, trying to navigate in that closed off region.

Come to me… come to me

A voice was echoing in Sora’s mind.

“You’re seriously not hearing this!”

“How should I know what the fuck your retard mind is hearing?” She ignored Sora as she took a sample of the dirt below. Sora stopped trying to clear that same old path.

“I ignored it when I first came here. But… why is it only echoing in my mind inside this tunnel?”

He began strolling in the opposite direction. This time, hearing the voices within. Using it like a guiding light towards a destination unknown.

“Where are you going?!” Miku asked.

“Wherever this voice takes me!” Sora said as he strolled into the darkness.

“Fine. Leave me. It's not like I need you here anyway!” she said out loud, but the truth of the matter was she was afraid of the darkness more than anybody. Even the sudden creek of falling rocks made her jump in the air.

“Damn it. Don’t leave a girl alone, you fucking donut!”

Back at the top of the mountain, Ken sat at the edge of the mountain looking down at the mist with a grim expression on his face. He was spacing out, looking at those giant robots working. Suddenly, a cold drink hit his cheek, which brought him back.

“Huh?” he looked back and noticed Akane holding two drink cans in her hand.

“You alright?” she said.

“I…” he suddenly remembered all the things he selfishly did.

“I’m sorry,” he uttered.

“Pfft. Is that a way to start a conversation?” she said, sitting down beside him opening her drink.

A silence fell between them. Akane kept on drinking while Ken observed the can in his hand. Just staring at it.

“You know you looking at it won’t make the drink, drink itself you know”

“Ah. My bad” he opened the can.

“It's ok…”

‘Huh?”

“I forgive you. And I guess I should apologize too. You’re the captain. I shouldn't have overstepped my boundaries. “

“No, it was justified. I... I’m at a loss.” he looked at the vast empty land ahead of him with a sorrowful expression.

“I was an outlaw because I thought it would give me the freedom to do whatever I want, to hold up those values I consider most precious. Yet… I am shackled. By power, by my weakness, by this world’s damn influence”

Akane finished her drink and pulled a badge close to Ken.

“Whats this?”

“This is Lola’s. Something she gave to her dad.”

The badge was none other than ‘world's best dad’

“How did you…”

“Ryu gave it to me. Said to give it to you.”

She stood up from her place crushing the can in hand and walking back towards the ship.

“No matter what we say… in the end, whatever decision the captain makes, we follow it through to the end. Ryu said that”

Ken’s eyes widened at hearing that. Ken felt like it was nothing but a confirmation. Something he was desperately seeking.

“You know this world is cruel… but people say one man can make a difference…” she said, turning towards Ken. The long awaited sun was finally shining on top of the moonlit sky.

“Show me Kawasaki Ken, that one can make a difference in this unfair system!”

She said, looking at Ken. That was all the words Ken needed. The once motivation he lost had retired back to him. He stood up, looking back at the mist below. A huge grin on his face.

“I guess Lola needs this back. I should give her a visit.” he said.

“Alright. We’ll gear up and be there right with you.” she said with a hint of a smile on her face. Ken looked back at the mist. This time with not a sorrow of helplessness, but a smile of courage. He jumped down with a leap of faith. Akane looked at the acne and let out a sigh. She slowly headed towards the ship to gear up.

“Why lie?’

Ryu said from the back, sitting on the chair at a 75 degree angle.

Akane didn’t respond at first. After a brief pause, she said,

“I don’t know. Maybe it was to give him a false sense of hope?”

She got ready and pulled her knives and revolvers on her back.

“Or maybe it was to prove a point”

She looked at Ryu with her death glare once more.

“I think I like his definition of an outlaw more, I guess.”

She said, walking out of the ship. Ken zipped from one perch point to another, swinging close to the village. After losing all swinging options, he dashed toward the village. His head was high. His speed was stellar. He wanted to say there was hope. He wanted to meet Lola once again. But as soon as he opened the door to the village, his eyes shook with horror. Flames everywhere, with corpses in the front. He dashed inside the village at high speed. Looking in every direction to find anyone familiar.

“Where are you… Lola… Liam, old man Halo, Kalo “

He jumped from one building to another when he finally arrived in the middle of the village. Suddenly, he saw an almost dying villager close to the well.

“Hey are you ok?” he said to the villager. The villager was close to being unconscious. The only word she said before dying struck a deep wound in Ken’s heart.

“This is… all… your… fa… fault”
