《VOID REQUIEM》Chapter 14: What lies beneath the surface

In the other corner of the cliff, Ryu and Sora were strolling down the steep hill. While Ryu was carefully going down the hilly parts, Sora was walking down with music in his ears and a carefree tone.
“Hey!” Ryu started seeing Sora’s body tone. “What the hell are you doing walking like that?” he shouted in a passive aggressive tone.
“Then why are you walking like we are in some espionage movie?” Sora replied.
“We don’t know what’s in this place. We should be on guard at all times.”
“Uh huh,” Sora said while he scrolled his playlist of music, not paying attention to Ryu’s words at all. Ryu stopped walking as if he felt something underneath.
“Wait…” he shouted to Sora, But Sora ignored his call and kept on walking.
“Relax ma dude. It's not like there is a hole in the ground… AAAAAAH!”
Before he could finish, he fell down into a hole in the ground. The hole seemed to be big as Sora instantly vanished in the pitch darkness. Ryu stared down at the hole.
He let out a sigh of exhaustion because of Sora’s reckless acts. But regardless of what he thought, he had to get him back. After all knowing what type of person Ken is from the outside, he would be pissed if a member of the crew was missing in the beginning. That was something Ryu deducted from his first impression of Ken. A seemingly carefree child, but a heart not meant for an outlaw. But in conclusion, he got Sora back. Regardless of what was down in that dark pit, he jumped in. The pit was deep. Deeper than anything he had seen. The landing would hurt a lot if he didn't do something. He immediately pulled his leg downwards towards the ground as he rubbed his hand fastly. The rubbing caused a spark in his hand as electricity engulfed it. He then rubbed the hands on his two feet. The electricity flowed from the hand and towards the legs. He finally saw the ground as he stretched his legs and slammed on to the ground. The Shockwave was intense. Causing a sort of vibration across the cave. A slight fear caught up in his mind.
“Shit, if this cave falls on itself…” he thought to himself. Luckily, that didn’t happen. He wiped the dust off of his body. After observing his surroundings, he concluded that escaping from the top would be next to impossible. Despite the outside being visible, it was too high to grasp. He kept on walking. He flicked his fingers as a slow spark emerged. With one huge last flick, a small electric wave formed between his thumb and middle finger. The electricity was flowing constantly as if it was a circuit. As he strolled forward, he saw Sora’s body unconscious on the ground.

“Sora!” He shouted as he rushed towards him. He noticed Sora’s face was titled downwards and his goggles were across to the side. Despite such a huge fall, his goggles seemed to be unscathed. He saw blood on his face. Thinking of the worst, he held his shoulder, trying to flip him to see his face. But before he could do so, Sora’s hand grabbed him.
“Don’t” he whispered. Ryu felt conflicted on why he wasn't letting him help him.
“It's no time to be prideful. Let me see how hurt you are!”
“If you even dare to see my eyes without my goggles on, I will kill you.” He said in a harsh tone. Something Ryu never expected from Sora. “Just bring me my goggles.”
Ryu was conflicted, but for now it was best not to be stubborn like him. He grabbed the goggles and tossed it towards Sora. Sora immediately jumped up with no hassle, as if he felt nothing. And quickly put on the goggles.
“Alright. I’m back!” he said enthusiastically. As if his personality just switched. But the personality wasn’t Ryu’s biggest concern. He looked at the blood on the floor and wondered how he had no pain in his body rather than no scar on his face.
“How are you still walking after that fall? Didn’t you fall on your face?”
“As if I would survive that fall if I did.” He said, fixing his goggles position. “Just before impact, I pulled out my swords and created a power wave to decrease my speed.”
“Then the blood?”
Sora looked at his own feet. His looks suggested he didn't even notice the blood on the floor.
“Holy shit, why is there blood on the floor?”
“He just noticed…” Ryu mumbled to himself. But now that he confirmed that it's not Sora’s blood, he pondered where this blood actually came from. He noticed the blood had a trail mark on it. As if someone was dragged here. He trudged forward. Sora was fixing his shoes when he noticed Ryu leaving.
“Hey don’t leave me alone bastard!” he said quickly, sprinting towards him. As Ryu slowly walked, following the blood trail, his anxiousness kept on rising. “Be on guard this time, please!” He said to Sora. “Alright, I got it. Don’t worry,” Sora pulled out his two swords. The swords looked like ordinary swords that a knight would equip. The atmosphere was tense. Nothing except for Ryu’s flickering electricity keeping their visions clear. The blood trail was slowly getting more fresh. The place was quiet. Nothing but their footsteps could be heard. Suddenly, an enormous noise echoed in the background. Both Ryu and Sora came close to each other, covering each of their backs.

“What the fuck was that?” Sora said
“How should I know? It's not like I’ve been here before. Might be a flesh-eating animal or something that lurks in the dark”
“Wow, that's reassuring,” Sora said in a sarcastic voice.
As Ryu pulled a step forward, he could feel something below his feet. A small yellow hand decaying on the ground and in front of what would seem to be a corpse rotting. The corpse was that of a yellow alien, native to this land.
“What are you doing?” Sora said, seeing Ryu slowly approaching the decaying corpse.
Ryu pulled his flicker closer. The alien seemed to have a normal fashionable suit and a few badges stuck in it.
“Mayor, world's best dad…” he mumbled to himself as he looked through the corpse.
“Can we go now?” Sora said, feeling anxious.
“Not yet,” Ryu said, trying to find some clue to what place this is. The corpse was fresh. He gently pulled out the things in his pocket. A small watch, a diary and some documents wrapped in a thin layer of plastic. He got up and began reading it.
“Mining legislation…” he started, but unfortunately he couldn’t keep on reading as behind them some of the cave was collapsing.
“Can we move now for fuck's sake!” Sora said with anger.
“Alright Let’s keep on moving.”
As they kept on strolling towards the front, a sudden voice began echoing in Sora's mind.
Free... unleash... power
Their words were being whispered in Sora's mind.
"Do you hear that?!" he asked Ryu.
"Hear what? Your footsteps? then yes"
"Thats not what I meant. It's like something is calling out to me."
"Maybe you really hit your head," Ryu sighed. For now, Sora ignored it.
They kept on walking, only to meet a dead end. “Great, a dead end,” Sora said, feeling pissed.
“No, wait” Ryu looked at the corpse behind and back at the rocks in front of him. It looked as if the corpse had been running towards her. “Maybe there is a door or something?”
“A what”
“Just bear with me for a while. There has to be some way to the other side” Ryu began touching the surface of the rock, trying to figure out a clue. Seeing this, Sora tapped his shoulder and pushed him to the side. Pulling both swords across from each other, he shouted,
“Fuck it. Two swords style: Testugiri!”
A cross slash against the rocks in front of them, opening up the front while simultaneously causing a cave in from behind.
“Why the hell did you do that?” Ryu yelled.
“Let's just rush in. It was already taking too long”
They both rushed inside before the cave caught them. Inside there were lights. An array of lights, almost as if this was some sort of facility.
“Woah… What is this place?”
A long, steep hallway that seemed to have no end. There were three-way roads all going in each direction.
“Which way should we go?” Sora said.
“I don’t know. Wanna split up? We can cover more ground that way”
Sora stared at Ryu’s face, hearing those audacious words.
“Dude, have you ever watched any thriller movies? The Characters always fuck up if they split up. Nuh uh I'm going whichever way you going”
“Suit yourself,” Ryu said with a sigh. They both took the front hallway, both on guard, ready to face whatever comes in their way.
