《VOID REQUIEM》Chapter 8: A duel with flames, Ken vs Axel

I'm Ken. Kawasaki Ken and I am the man who will become the Cosmic Emperor!”
Ken had declared his ambitions once again, this time with a more menacing tone. “I am the new captain now. If you have any problem, you can duel me anytime. I will rip you into shreds”
Akane’s leg were flailing as the purple poison was spreading. They were all somewhat wounded. The situation was also getting worse as government aircrafts were closing in on the area.
“What are you bastards looking at? Get on the damn ship!” Ken yelled.
The others felt a little hesitant, but Ryu went forward and bowed down
“As you command captain”
He then rushed towards the ship. “Hey wait up! You’re forgetting the main character, me!” Sora also rushed towards him. Miku followed behind, not waiting a moment. Akane couldn't move. Her legs were already filled with poison. Ken walked close to her, looking down at her defenseless body.
“You can go on ahead. This is a as I…”
Before she could finish Ken princess carried her in his arms.
“Shut it, woman, I don’t have time for your useless nonsense,”
Ken tried to rush towards the ship, but Miku had already started the engines. The ship was ready to fly.
“Wait, where the fuck are you going without us?”
Ken shouted,
“There are too many ships approaching. If we take any longe, we won’t be able to get out of this airspace. Try to get to the east side of the city so we can scoop you in.” Miku said in the ship’s mic.
Akane looked back as her eyes widened with horror.
“Umm, you might wanna look back”
Ken turned backwards and saw Axel standing up once again, readjusting his neck as it was displaced.
“You think you can take me down that easily?”
Ken gave out a vast sigh. With a single pull, he ripped his jacket off and bent down towards Akane.
“Get on my back now!”
Akane knew it was no time for her to be prideful. She jumped on his back, bracing his body. Using the ripped jacket as an extra safety, he wrapped her tightly against his body so that she wouldn’t fall.
“This is gonna be a bumpy ride. So hold still, you got it?!”
The government aircrafts were getting closer, so was Axel.
Suddenly Akane could feel Ken leg’s vibrating. It wasn’t vibrating, rather. A weird chemical compound was surging through his legs rapidly, giving a red and black glow on his legs.
“You think you can escape from my hands after what you did?”
Axel shouted as his hands ignited in flames.
“I missed the part where that’s my problem,” Ken said as he began dashing towards the city. Ken’s legs sprinted first as the snows dispute as he laid his foot.
“After him!” Axel ordered his men. Ken kept on sprinting and jumping. Each of his jumps was seven stories high. The city’s old and industrial factory like architecture was becoming pivotal for their escape. Using those buildings and arenas as parkour, he jumped, slid, sprinted from one to another. After reaching a high tower building, a chopper spotted them as it began shooting.

“There is a small hole in the corner side of the front building. Take that route”
Akane uttered. Ken could not see that far. “You know this place or something?” he asked.
“No, but I can see it with my eyes.”
Ken was amazed hearing that. For her to see such a minor route and that so far away with the naked eye goes to show her abilities as a gunman. Her yellow eyes were glowing brightly, like an eagle’s. Locked on a specific target. But it was no time for praises. Ken and Akane both realized the gap between those two buildings was too big. To make matters worse, a chopper showed up right from the gap and began shooting at them with its machine guns. Akane closed her eyes, thinking they were going to get shot, when suddenly Ken pulled his left arm in front as it twisted into a huge shield blocking all incoming fire. The shield had a black and red esthetic to it as it materialized out of Ken’s own Hand. Its size was bigger than Ken himself, which acted as the perfect block while still maintaining decent speed. But the time for jump was getting closer.
“We won’t make it!” Akane yelled.
“Yes, we will!”
Ken jumped without a moment of hesitation. But she was right. That gap was too far for him to jump. But as soon as they began falling down to the bottom, Ken stretched his arm backwards, aiming for the top of the chopper in front of them. With one swing, Ken’s left hand stretched towards the chopper as it turned into one huge and long tentacle. The tentacle wrapped around the chopper's bottom as they swung towards the building. Ken, without wasting time using his hands, pierced the building's outer layer and climbed rapidly.
“What exactly are you?” Akane said with a sense of surprise in her eyes.
“Don’t know, don’t care”
Ken jumped through the small route, Akane said, narrowly escaping the incoming attacks. Ken could manipulate his body structure to turn it into tentacles. He stretched it again towards other structures as winged from one building to another and finally on top of the last building, close to east airspace.
But suddenly, a huge rocket launcher hit them from behind as Ken fell to the ground. His vision felt blurred and noise being suppressed. Axel jumped from one chopper to the ground.
“I told you, didn’t I? there is no way in hell I would let you escape!”
“Where’s the damn ship! I thought that woman said they would scoop us from here” Ken shouted.
‘You believed in some mere outlaws? Are you an idiot?” Akane sighed.
“Shut up. I will decide who I will believe or not”
As they were arguing, Axel was getting annoyed. His hands were igniting flames, ready to burn Ken. He threw a huge fireball as a starter. Ken, using his shield, blocked it effortlessly.

“You’re one mysterious creature human! I will kill you slowly and painfully.”
“Sheesh! Never knew the so called good guys security were so mentally messed up”
Ken replied.
He pulled out the cloth and let Akane down to ground. Her leg poison wasn’t also slowing down.
“Hold on for a few more minutes,” he tried to reassure Akane. Clenching his fist, he took his fighting stance.
“Alright bastard Bring it!”
Ken was ready to take him on in this fight. Axel pulled his hand high, showing his men to not intervene in this fight.
“I’m going to enjoy this,” he smirked as he slowly walked towards Ken, his hands covered in flames.
Ken also slowly walking towards him while shaking his hands as if something was about to pop out of them.
Both slowly increased their speed as they dashed towards each other. Axel using his flames boosted his speed and Ken using his legs to propel himself towards Axel. Axel stretched his hand backwards, coating it in flames.
“Fire Meto: Hikken Fist!”
Ken somehow manipulated his hand, increasing its size and hardening its outer structure with a black and red coating. As they closed in, both of their fists hits each other’s causing a shock wave through the ground cracking it. Axel used martial art like techniques, hitting Ken left and right. Ken seemed to not have the techniques to dodge. He took on all the attacks, leaving a burning scar on his body. Axel, seeing Ken’s weak form, tried to ignite Ken’s face by using his flame. But, to his surprise, Ken took it in without flinching and grabbed Axel by the face and shoved him to the ground. But Axel instantly recovered from the blow as he, using his leg, sent one of Ken’s arms flying out of his body.
Akane was shocked seeing that. Ken’s entire hand had come off.
“Is that all you got?” Axel taunted.
Ken jabbed his shoulder as the hand instantly grew back.
“Don’t be so overconfident, you little shit. Just cause you have a 10k meto count and somewhat of a little pretty face.”
Ken’s left arm had regrown, but something was different. From the elbow stuck out an enormous sword. “Imma slice you up to the point even your bones won’t remain!”
Ken dashed at him at full speed. Axel felt a little hesitant this time and busted out his flame towards Ken. Ken, using his sword, sliced right into the middle of the flames.
“What… how”
The flames separated into two sides. exposing Axel in the middle. Using his right hand, Ken shot out a tentacle and grabbed his neck. Using that as a hook, he pulled himself towards Axel. In one fatal second, Ken had sliced him from the middle. The slice had happened so fast that the blood came out a few seconds after his slice. Blood was from Axel’s waist all the way to the right eye.
“It can’t be, sir. Axel is down?!” one soldier in the ship shouted.
“What do we do now?”
“Captain Axel is down. We have no choice. We can’t let someone who can slice through his fire walk out of here alive.”
They began shooting at Ken.
“Damn it!” Ken retraced his blade and picked up Akane. In front of them was the cliff in the eastern airspace. and below an empty unknown place, which they all would certainly not survive. Behind them were 5 aircraft ready to shoot them on sight.
“Looks like this is it.” Akane slowly whispered as her consciousness was almost about to fade away from the poison.
“Its over when I say it is!” Ken shouted.
Using all the energy in his legs, Ken dashed towards the cliff.
“What is he doing? Doesn’t he know he won’t survive that fall?”
one soldier wondered.
“Beats me. But we can’t let a specimen like that go! Capture him at all costs!”
Ken jumped as far as he could, but he wasn’t a bird that he could fly. You could only cover so much distance before you fall.
“Fuck, I wish I had some damn winnnngggggssss!!!!!!”
Ken fell downwards as the choppers stopped advancing, shocked by his actions.
“He killed himself?”
Suddenly, the ground shook as Miku pulled the ship right from the bottom to the top.
“Told you I would scoop you guys up,”
Miku grinned with confidence. Sora and Ryu pulled both of them inside of the ship as Miku engaged the thruster to its full capacity. They dashed out of the planet before any of the choppers could get close to them.
The arena was already covered with fire and smoke. On the top of one tower, two men, wearing long white cloaks, observed as the ship was flying away. One of them had a huge muscular body and the other with a skinny body with a long hat that resembled that of a magician.
“It seems we were too late. The beholder has already left the planet”
The muscular one said with a sigh.
“Do not worry Pietro, we will find more chances soon.”
The magician like person said. Suddenly an outlaw tried to jump at them from behind when the skinny dude grabbed the outlaw by the face. The outlaw's face instantly crumbled as Pietro watched in silence. The Magician like person pulled his gloves back on once again and continued to say,
“After all, their adventures have only just begun.”

The Dreamside Road
Five years after the world fell into chaos, a treasure of artifacts is up for grabs. The relics of the Dreamside Road offer a power that could help rebuild or annihilate what remains. Enoa Cloud’s late aunt helped hide the Dreamside Road, but following in her aunt’s supernatural tradition offers her as much peril as power. Together, Orson and Enoa battle a magic-obsessed militia, clash with a host of rivals, and face constant adventure on their journey to find the Dreamside Road. *Updates Monday and Friday The Dreamside Road is now on TopWebFiction! Vote so people know this exists. _____________________________________ NOTE: The Progression tag applies specifically to Enoa. Also, fair warning, that element doesn't enter the story until she begins her studies. Content: Main characters range in age from teenagers to people in their thirties and older, but it will not contain gratuitous violence or explicit sexual content. It also won’t shy away from implication, anything to make this story and its world feel more real. Characters will freely allude to potentially triggering topics, including living with a disability, facing terminal illness, coping with trauma, surviving societal destabilization, and the consequences of bigotry. At its most intense, the Dreamside Road is a hard PG-13. Worldbuilding: This is not a story with a lot of early exposition scenes, conveniently explaining ‘magic systems’ and political dynamics. Readers will learn, progressively, as the characters do. This story/world has a ‘magic system’, or rather, a set of systems, but the effort to quantify and understand the truth of the setting plays a role in the backstory, as well as in some character motivations. In that same vein, not every character has a firm grasp on the nature of their world, and not every piece of dialog from every character should be taken as entirely truthful Worldbuilding. Also, this isn't the softest Sci-fi. There are at least some basic explanations given for various elements, but Royal Road does not give me a spectrum to choose from. Given the choice between hard and soft, let's just say The Dreamside Road won't be cited in any college Physics papers. Setting and Theme: The Dreamside Road walks the line between fantasy and science fiction and deals with finding one’s place in a changing world. Many of the characters in this story are United States natives and the story begins in the United States, my homeland. However, knowledge or interest in this country is not necessary to understand the story, especially as it progresses. Also, as this is a novel that deals with societal collapse and while that damage may be widespread, in story, I don’t want to overstep and critique the culture of others’ unless I have particular knowledge in a given area. Ultimately, the Dreamside Road is American in the same way Harry Potter is English, fantasies that do not have a full secondary world, but with enough original elements to fully diverge the setting from our the real world.

Re-Ordaining of the Chosen
Alea cheerfully hummed as she descended the steps, brimming in upbeat while her colleague, Quarren Leos, shot her a look of skepticism. “So… were you right about him?” he asked doubtfully. She came to a stop for a moment, her humming falling silent before she shook her head, waving her medium length light-blonde hair from side to side. “I was wrong about him.” Quarren raised an eyebrow in confusion at the convoluted response.“But you seem quite happy?” he asked again. “Because I am. But I was wrong about him. He was… so much more than I ever expected.” Alea looked at the sky overhead with a smile. “That boy… no, that man, is amazing. I firmly believe he will come to stand on top of any adversary he faces. He is destined. He is Chosen.” Quarren snorted as he stepped past, shaking his head. “Okay. Each to their own beliefs but you’re sounding like a nutjob. That skinny twig? Everyone calls him a cripple, you know,” he shook his head.“Rumours are always false, Leos,” Alea answered with a disapproving shake of her head. “You wouldn’t know. He is so, so much more.” “I saw him with my own two eyes. I didn’t see anything redeeming,” Quarren rebutted. “Well…” Alea chuckled. “You haven’t seen what I’ve seen.” In the year 917 of the Imperial Calendar, the Great War had just ended between dozens of nations.
