《The Ultimate Human》Chapter 03 : Monster

Deep inside, Davis Graylock was a little bit happy. From the moment he had heard that Aldric had a Phoenix bloodline, he had decided to make it his own for one simple reason: " he says that he's going to keep me alive for a few thousand years to study me but with this Phoenix bloodline, I do not have to fear death if it comes. Just like in the legends, I will just go through rebirth when I die."
He didn't completely trust the Undying Spell Matrix or the Resurrection Spell. He wanted to rely on himself, at least while he still could.
No more hesitation could be seen in his eyes as he downed the golden blood.
For Davis Graylock, what happened next was unprecedented. As for Aldric Draalsar, from the expression he was showing, it was if he was watching a cheap play that had no surprises or anything interesting.
Davis found himself floating and on fire. His clothes were burned until not even ashes were left.
He only screamed for a second before he was reduced to ashes.
"Good. He's going through the first rebirth so early. That blood I gave him should have enough energy for the first rebirth, maybe even a second one... And with each rebirth comes a new kind of fire." Aldric said.
The ashes had a tinge of golden color and were still covered by the same golden fire.
Aldric looked on for a while and nothing else happened. He appeared to be worried and then said: "What's happening? This is not how it's supposed to go down. A new body and soul should be appearing right now."
The new body and soul he was waiting for never appeared. For a good long fifteen minutes, Aldric stood there unmoving watching the golden-colored ashes in the fire. His experienced eyes were at a loss to what was happening in front of him.
It seemed that something else was brewing. Something unusual.
Suddenly, the fire covering the ashes then moved. It took the form of a little translucent yellow and purple bird.
Aldric was shocked to the core by what he was seeing.
"That's a demon soul... he's acquiring a demon soul..." A shocked Aldric Draalsar said.
"Impossible!... This is impossible."
He looked closely at the little translucent bird. The more he looked, the more shocked he seemed to be.
It had to be known that even Aldric himself still had a human soul despite having the all-powerful Blue Dragon bloodline.
Only True Demons had a Demon Soul. True Demons were those born as beasts.
As for beings like Aldric Draalsar, they were considered Half-demons since despite having demon bloodlines, they still had a human soul and under the influence of that soul could still take a perfect human form.
The little yellow and purple translucent bird the started growing. In the blink of an eye, it one hundred meters long.
Davis' ashes were still contained in the bird and they were still burning. As time passed, the quantity of the ashes diminished. It was as if they were being absorbed by the giant bird that was now a thousand meters long.

When the yellow and purple bird reached a height of five to six kilometers it stopped growing.
SCREECH!!!
The giant translucent bird then screeched as the last of the ashes were absorbed.
When all the ashes were absorbed, the bird who had stayed on the ground so far took to the skies.
A green fire stemmed from its eyes and then engulfed its entire body.
A gigantic skeleton then started appearing inside the gigantic bird. Internal organs followed. Then came the flesh and skin.
A purple crown grew out of its forehead and yellow feathers appeared on its body.
At the end of the tail, a long green feather then sprouted completing the evolution.
The six kilometres long yellow bird kept releasing cries and flying through the sky looking above all living beings like a true king.
"He's... He's really become a True Demon."
" He's really an oddity. This is the second time he's surprised me. To become a True Demon from a simple bloodline transfusion...What other secrets does his body have?"
"Well, now we have a problem... How will I make him understand that there is nothing human about him anymore."
"And it's going to be difficult to communicate as a bird...his soul is powerful now. I should teach him how to use soul sense."
As Aldric was thinking about his next course of action, the eyes of the gigantic Phoenix in the sky seemed to regain clarity for a moment. The beast within was fighting with the owner for the ownership of the body.
The Phoenix came back to the ground and the green fire around it started propagating.
For kilometres, everything the green fire touched was given a new life: old decaying trees became vigorous with vitality, old beasts at the end of their lifespan found themselves in younger bodies, the vegetation grew and the already long trees reached hundreds of meters high in the sky.
The entire island was clad in a green fire that was changing its landscape anew.
Aldric then shook his head: " It seems that he is now stuck with the FIRE OF REBIRTH that he unlocked... I would've feared for my own safety had he unlocked the UNDERWORLD FIRE, but it seems I was lucky...I can now manage him as I see fit...well there was no fearing him, really. If I went all out, the worst that could happen would be that we are both equals. Even if my Blue Dragon body is the most suited for physical combat than his Phoenix body, I would for sure be riddled with wounds since I do not have the FIRE OF REBIRTH like him to heal me instantly...but if I use my comprehension of laws, I should be able to win."
Aldric waited until the inner fight of the Phoenix resolved and Davis finally took control of his Phoenix body.
The first thing that Davis wanted was to talk ask how he was going to turn back to his human self. It seemed like being a giant bird was not comfortable despite the huge amount of power he felt he had.

Aldric then said with his soul sense. His voice reverberated inside Davis' mind: " I know what you want to ask about...but first condense your body into the smallest form you can so we can talk comfortably."
"And call back that green fire will you? It has done enough."
Not knowing how to accomplish such a thing like condensing himself or calling back the green fire, Davis was seething with rage and didn't know how to vent it.
"How am I supposed to do all that?" Davis thought.
Seeing the Phoenix's eyes frown in rage, Aldric the said: " It's easy. Just think about what you want to do and it'll happen. You're a divine being now, your very thoughts hold power."
Thinking that the explanation was simple enough, Davis closed his eyes and then thought about recalling the fire that was rampaging throughout the island.
As if being called home, the green fire then came rushing towards the Yellow Phoenix. It was all absorbed by Davis' body.
"Sure enough, he succeeded on his first try. What else can surprise me anymore." Aldric lightly nodded.
After that, Davis then tried to remember how he felt in his human body.
The six kilometers long Phoenix then started condensing on itself. The act of condensation meant that its physical power would increase exponentially as it's huge body retracted on itself.
The smaller Davis became, the more mentally taxing it was to keep forcing his body to condense. The only thing driving him was the thought of looking like a human and not like a beast. That thought was was so strong that it bordered madness.
An hour later, what could be seen was a two-meter tall humanoid.
The humanoid had yellow feathers all over the body. The purple crown was still there looking like a mohawk. The eyes were entirely green. A weird nose followed by a small beak.
Davis managed to get his hands right. If you overlooked the small feathers, it looked like human hands.
But the only thing that looked even less human were his feet. He only managed to create four-toed talons.
He looked at himself with disgust and waited for the old man to say something useful.
" It's no use. You're not like me anymore. I am a Half-Demon with a good amount of human bloodline and a human soul. This is why I can take human form. You on the other hand, for some reason, you've become a True Demon. You can never become a human again in this life. You just have to accept that you're a Phoenix from now on." Said Aldric in a deep voice.
Immediately after hearing what Aldric said, Davis' rage reached its highest point.
"BASTARD! YOU'RE GONNA PAY FOR THIS!"
It was a voice that reverberated around them and it was coming from Davis. The most striking thing was that his beak never moved when that voice was heard. He had conjured it from his own mind.
"Soul Sense Resonance...impossible...he can use it innately." Aldric Draalsar was once again shocked.
Davis then took two steps, jumped and then punched with all his strength. The speed at which he moved left Aldric no chance but to parry by crossing his arms in front of himself in time.
What happened next was breathtaking.
A punch that could rend space collided with the old man's arms.
Aldric's two arms exploded in gore in succession.
Next, the punch landed on Aldric's chest which left it mangled beyond repair. A still-beating heart could be seen trying desperately to beat and give the old man some more time to live.
The impact sent Aldric a few kilometers away going through thick trees on the way.
A few kilometers away, Aldric was coughing out all the blood he ever had.
" Damn it... I underestimated my Undying Spell Matrix....the Phoenix blood it made turned him into a monster... he's now stronger than I am...I can't even block a simple punch of his."
"Fortunately, his first fire is harmless. This situation is still manageable. If he kills me, I can still resurrect somewhere else on the island since I've hidden several drops of blood all over it just in case the Overgod came back to finish me off."
Every word Aldric said was followed by a violent cough. He looked in the direction of Davis and saw him slowly walking towards his soon to be corpse.
Aldric found it funny that he couldn't run away even if he wanted to.
The wait was long. Davis had chosen to slowly walk towards the old man instead of flying or running. Thirty minutes later, he arrived before the shivering Aldric.
But what he saw was no longer a human Aldric. It was a gigantic blue dragon that was condensing.
The previous wound on the chest seemed to have been healed in his dragon form.
"I know you won't really die if I kill you now. Which is why I will take my time. If you had told me I would end up looking like a monster for the rest of my life, I would've never accepted to drink that Phoenix blood...Now...I will vent my anger and then...only then will I allow you to fix me." Davis said with Soul Sense Resonance.
Immediately after Davis finished talking, he jumped towards the condensing dragon saying: " You should at least let me kill you once, don't you think?"

Unluckily for them, Mors Letus, recently named by their world's God of Death, was one of them. **** Warning **** This is a re-release (The Summoned) of the first book I wrote in partnership with my brother (who later forced the story to be pulled (It was released on his account here)). I have started writing my own version of the story (BOM: The Summoned) and will continue to primarily invest in that, though, now I have permission to re-release this one, I plan finish this as I have the drafts and it was close to the end of the first book. Many characters/scenes and events match/Will match BOM: The Summoned, especially in future arc's (Past Flatner forest). If you don't like spoilers, don't want to get confused between the two stories or hate first attempts at writing (god awful grammar/sentence structure and storytelling), I would advise against reading.

8 186Tales of Ordinary, Completely Unremarkable Contractors
"Where life had no value, death, sometimes, had its price. That is why the mercenaries appeared." - Artur Xerxes, in A Century of Disappointment: Memoirs of a Travelling Dwarf It's never too difficult to land contracts for a set very specialised skills in a continent teeming with werewolves, vampires, giant leopards, undead and, god forbid, elves. The difficulty comes when these contractors find themselves suffocated in the dense atmosphere of this world's rigid - and mostly unfair - rules; death, suffering and misfortune await those unwilling to sacrifice to bend these in their favour. In this non-linear plot, you will observe a scarred and deformed farm girl cashing her first bounty posters, a seemingly ordinary barmaid at a tavern in the bustling centre of a sprawling, corrupt city and an enigmatic leader of a firm specialising in dealings any other would consider suicidal. Watch them all take everything to the next level at every available opportunity, and then feel dread at the thought that this still might not be enough to halt the physical embodiment of doom about to do what it does best Please, feel free to review and comment! Any sort of feedback can help me become a better writer and write more engaging stories for you. I used to update once every 3-5 days, but this rewrite is taking much too long...I do hope it will be worth it.
