《A new horizon》4. Maps

All the family members were devastated hearing this because getting an audience from Grand Maester was almost impossible. He lived way far from Deepwood Motte and even if they could reach that place they weren't sure they could even get to see him.
Gawen seeing their faces could make out that getting an appointment with this Grand Maester was a very difficult process. He felt sad as he felt he was deceiving them. He just took over someone else's body and he had to lie on top of this.
Like his family members, he too hung his head in sadness. The man, who was apparently his father, saw the depressed room and clenched his fist. He said
"I will take Gawen to see the Grand Maester."
"No, it will be fruitless. There is no assurance that he will see you and the journey to that place won't be easy. There has already been an attempt on my son's life. If you leave the castle now, the failed assassination will not be a failed one any more." the mother replied among the flowing tears.
The man got silent listening to his wife. He couldn't find any other solution. Gawen, who was listening to the conversation, decided that he needed to intervene.
"I will assume that you both are my parents, so father, mother.. uhh.. It's fine if I don't get my memory back. You can teach me everything from the start. I think we will be able to rekindle the same love that you have given me since I was born. Memories aren't that important, only love is. We can always make new memories."
Gawen's mother and his sister listening to him had more tears flowing from their eyes as they hugged him. He could feel the warmth, the concern and the love of the family. He had missed this feeling. His mother had died for sometime now and here he was getting another chance of having another mother again.

Robett, seeing that his son too denied his idea, sighed. He was ready to go through all dangers to get his son's memories. But since his own son just decided to continue with lost memories he didn't oppose the whole idea. And honestly, it would be too tough and dangerous of a journey if he travelled.
"Then you will have to be in a closed room until you get the basic knowledge that you have just lost." his father said.
"I am willing to try." Gawen replied with confidence. His mother and his sister were still in shock and were just crying loads of tears while his father showed acceptance. Gawen was surprised to see that his father was more accepting of this whole debacle.
"Seems like my supposed father is more level headed than I thought him to be. He must be a man in a high position or else he would not be accepting of this matter so fast. It's good for me. At least I will not have to convince one major person." Gawen thought.
"Mother please don't cry. I know that I have lost my memories but I can feel your love. I promise I will make it upto you. And who knows, maybe this memory loss isn't permanent. I might get it back after sometime." Gawen said, trying to assure her mother.
His mother finally cooled down a bit and wiped her tears and looked at her son. Her sister too was sober now. Gawen bent forward and gave his mother a strong hug. His sister too hugged them both while his father and the Maester just stood there awkwardly.
"Father, are there books for me to read so that I can get the general knowledge of the situation?" Gawen asked after he let go of his mother and his sister.

"Books? Young Lord Gawen, are you serious?" the old man asked.
"Yes. Why? Are there no books?" Gawen asked as he felt a little scared. He thought there was no culture of keeping books and he might have said something that wasn't consistent with the local traditions and propagation of knowledge here.
"No. We do have books here but I always thought you hated reading." the old man said.
"Uhhh... I still don't like them but in this case I will be bored in my room. I need to understand my situation and make myself knowledgeable as fast as possible so that I can at least go out and not sound like an idiot." Gawen replied as he felt relieved that he didn't say something out of place. He was more desperate now to know the general situation of this place, before his cover was blown.
"Alright. There aren't many books in the castle. But what we have is enough for now. Maester Wolkan here will help you. Whatever happened today should never go out of this room. Gawen here faced an assassination attempt and we don't want to alert the enemy." his father said.
"I need to go back to the main hall to handle something. Sybelle, introduce our son to all the general things around." Robett said as he walked away followed by Maester. Erena too left as she allowed the woman to talk privately with him.
His mother then introduced herself as Sybelle Glover, wife of Robett Glover. His sister's name was Erena. And the old man was Maester Wolkan who worked as an advisor to Robett. They were living in a castle in Deepwood Motte.
"So I am a young lord here because this castle belongs to House Glover and my father is the head?" Gawen asked.
"Yes."
Gawen was relieved to know as now he had a general idea of his transmigration and was happy that at least in this life he was privileged a bit. As his mother was explaining all this, Maester Wolkan came back with various parchments and big sized books with thick pages.
Maester Wolkan then proceeded to bring him the map of the land that they lived in. Gawen took the map in his hand and froze in his spot. The map wasn't detailed and there was nothing of significance.
But the name written on top of the map was what scared the living s**t out him.
Because the name on the map was what he could easily recognize and even knew quite a bit, if not everything.
The name was Westeros.

Old rivalries clash with new necessities as the fabric of reality strains once more. ___________________________________________ This is my first shot at posting something I've written and a story set in a literary universe that I really want to take places, one of several that's been rattling around in my brain for a few years now. Constructive criticism always welcome, unconstructive criticism welcome with the caveat that I very well might ignore it. Written for Nanowrimo, because why not.
