《My Only Lorelei》Vol 2: Chapter 6 - Responsibilities Of A Man

Crowell took us all around the city until we reached the governor’s land.
There were two large buildings far from one another surrounded by a stone fence.
Lewis pointed out that the building that was in the center of the governor’s lane was his home while the other building was his office.
In the area, there were many guards with torches going about their watch, each group consisting of two people. They would nod in the direction of Crowell but didn’t speak a word.
“Well, this is where I must stop, I’m afraid,” Crowell turned around as he reached the gate to his land. “It was a pleasure taking a long stroll with you two.”
Lewis bowed to him, “The pleasure was all mine. Enjoy your night, Crow.”
With one last smile, Crow walked through the gates. The guards immediately closed the gate behind him.
“We should get some sleep too,” I suggested.
Lewis nodded.
The night air was chilly, and I was beginning to feel very cold. I held my myself as tight as I could, but I couldn’t stop myself from shaking. I looked over to Lewis, but he seemed unaffected by the cold weather.
We didn’t exchange any words as we walked back home. I guess Lewis was just as tired as I was.
As we reached the gate to the Higher Central, I noticed a figure behind one of the buildings.
It was the kid that tried stealing Tal’s pouch!
“Lewis, it’s him. That kid from earlier,” I whispered.
Lewis looked over to where I was motioning, “Yeah, you’re right. I’d recognize that red robe anywhere.”
“Let’s act like we don’t see him and get as close as we can, then we can try to jump him the moment he’s close enough,” I suggested.

“No, don’t,” Lewis held my shoulder.
He had a stern look in his face.
“We don’t need to chase that kid. Tal already got his pouch back,” Lewis said.
“That might be true, but if that kid keeps getting away with stealing, then he’ll never stop,” I retorted. “The person he steals from next might not be able as lucky as we were.”
“Enough, Din!”
I took a step back by surprise. I hadn’t expected him to yell at me like that.
He noticed his actions and apologized immediately, “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to yell at you like that.”
The kid noticed us and fled the scene.
I sighed, “It’s fine.”
We continued walking home. I hadn’t seen Lewis like this before, it was actually frightening.
As we reached the door, he began opening the door, but then suddenly stopped.
“What’s wrong?” I asked.
“Din, I think I’m going to quit being part of the Ravagers.”
“Huh? W-wait, why?”
He turned towards me.
He didn’t start speaking right away, but he finally answered, “I want to have a family.”
I wasn’t sure where he was getting at.
He noticed my confusion and continued, “The life of a Ravager is a dangerous one. We are forced into missions where we put our lives on the line for the sake of the greater good. That was a sacrifice I was willing to make.”
Lewis walked away from the door and motioned me to follow him.
He led me outside of the Higher Central gate towards the hillside. He didn’t say a word until we finally reached our destination.
We were on top of a cliff with a great view of not only the ocean, but also the city. It was hard to make out things through the mist, but I was sure this would make a good scenic viewing spot.

“This was where I proposed to Chris,” Lewis started.
“The hillside past Higher Central…” I remembered Lewis mentioning that.
Lewis nodded, “Before coming back here, I couldn’t imagine a life outside of being a Ravager. I had been part of that group for so long along with Chris. We had gone on countless missions and there were multiple times when I thought I would die. But somehow, we’re both still here. We’re both back where we started, in this city.”
Even with his pause, I remained silent. I didn’t know what I could add in.
“I want a child. I want to have a child with Chris. I want to be a father. I finally understand now,” Lewis said.
“That’s great, Lewis. I’m sure you’ll make a great father.”
He gave me a nod, “Thank you, Din. That means a lot and I’m sorry, I can’t go on your journey to Aegis.”
Is that what he was worried about?
I laughed, “You don’t have to be sorry about that. I was planning on heading there with just Lorelei to begin with. I’m just grateful you were there to even bring me here.”
Lewis gave out a long sigh before smiling again. “I feel so much better now! I really needed to get that off my chest! I wasn’t sure how you’d feel if I suddenly told you I was planning on going. I didn’t want you to hate me or anything. So how about we head home now?”
He really was a nice guy. He was that worried about it. The look of relief on his face showed how much he hated the idea of leaving a friend behind.
I was just happy to have met a guy like him.
On our way home, he was lively again and began talking about what foods to eat the next day.

Pawns of God
Five Lines PitchJoin Mark in his fight against a God and change the game's destiny! Delve into a slow-paced story focused on the progression of the main party and the development of the world. Mark himself will be narrating his life inside the game, and to a much lesser extend outside. Guild building, economy, and strategy are the central pieces of the novel. Mark is not overpowered, he will have to build his own power through action-packed battles, trials, traumas, love, and death. Accompany him, the healer and the strategist, an agent of chaos, in the adventure of his life. Without further preamble, I will let Mark take the mic. SynopsisHi! My name is Mark. This is my story, my life as I live it day after day. I’m in my thirties, and there’s nothing I love more than playing online games. I’ve just joined the action on the newest VRMMO game, Pawns of God. An immersive experience you can play while sleeping. Of course, as a game that takes pride in its long development and technological advances, everything inside seems and feels real. Beware, this is not a game-turns-real story. I love my own world and I would detest being summoned into another one. If that ever happens, I’ll just quickly take my life and be done with it. I play with my friends, in a party of 5. We have taken several roles, but lately, I've come to love being a healer. It's my secret ambition to someday be the shotcaller. I am not overpowered. If there is any bug or exploit in the game, they are yet to be discovered. Anyhow, for a game of this scale, the company is pouring all of its resources into test servers, QA, and beta tests. I don’t expect to find any, so I’ll be playing the game just like any other person. I must say, though, I am easily distracted, as you will immediately notice once you start. I'm working on it, I promise to improve! I am no hero. Being in my 30s, my heart is too old for this shit. I wouldn’t mind being one, of course. Who hasn’t dreamt of it? Either way, I’m not doing any grand quest to save the world. Whatever the game throws to their users, I’ll be there to experience it. Most of my life, at least the interesting parts that I’ll be narrating, happen inside the game itself. Rarely, there will be some IRL (In Real Life) chapters. You’ll understand, however, that as a freelance software developer, there is not much I can entertain you with when outside the game. Did I say I love games? Well, I’m also a fan of LitRPG literature. You know, journeys of magic, relationships, personal development, items, skills, discovery… In the spirit of not overwhelming my public, I’ll condense each chapter into circa 1500 words. You might have noticed some tags over this story, let me elaborate. I like to swear. I’m not shy when it comes to cursing my enemies, friends, or even myself. When there’s blood, I tell it as I see it. And… it hurts to admit it, but I’m not a casanova. Of course, this doesn’t mean that I won’t ever find love. So, in case I do end up finding it, let’s keep my sexual options open. As for traumas, none yet, but the future is vast and unknown. Release Schedule The schedule is subject to change, particularly if enough readers end up loving it. All chapters are already written, thus there is enough freedom to modify them. Arc 1 * Chapters 1-14: Each released one day and an hour later than the previous. Starting with chapter 2 at 09:20 UTC+2 on day 1, and finishing at 21:20 UTC+2 on day 13. Elapsed: 2 weeks Total: 2 weeks * Chapters 15-30: Releases every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 11:30 UTC+2. Elapsed: 5½ weeks Total: 7 weeks (1 month, 3½ weeks) * Chapters 31-49: Releases every Wednesday and Saturday at 11:30 UTC+2 Elapsed: 9½ weeks Total: 17 weeks (4 months, 1 week) All subsequent arcs will follow the same release schedule, 2/week. The BLOODLANDS
The story follows a young lord in which a middle-aged man reincarnated into the body and gets a second chance at using the knowledge he learns from reading in his past life. No longer bound to the world of his library and university but in a world in which if he failed not only his death but the death of others are in his hands. This concept of the book came about from having two mild heart attacks and the regrets of not being more active in my younger life. Note: The cover of the book is from a painting of Richard the Lionheart at the Battle of Arsuf (1191) during the Third Crusade where he defeated Saladin. Painting by Gustave Doré (19th century).

In 1991, Montreal, Canada, an end approaches. Old rivalries clash with new necessities as the fabric of reality strains once more. ___________________________________________ This is my first shot at posting something I've written and a story set in a literary universe that I really want to take places, one of several that's been rattling around in my brain for a few years now. Constructive criticism always welcome, unconstructive criticism welcome with the caveat that I very well might ignore it. Written for Nanowrimo, because why not.
