《My Only Lorelei》Chapter 33 - From One End To A New Beginning

As we were all exiting the lair, I also noticed that Din’s eyes had returned to normal. It seemed like his eyes only turned into a Spirit’s eyes during battle. The only other time that had happened was when he was fighting against Aydin and Grayson.
Din didn’t seem to realize when his eyes change and he didn’t notice the fact that he couldn’t even see me in that room.
Later that night, everyone split into different pubs, filling each of the pubs with Ravager members.
“Cheers to a successful mission!” Eliana raised her mug and cheered.
The crowd roared as they raised their mugs alongside her.
Din, Tal, Mun, Cyen, and Alby decided to sit together while Eliana was moving from group to group.
“That mission was easier said than done, that’s for sure,” Tal sighed.
“That’s because you froze. Just like you always do,” Alby remarked. “You can’t be the one in charge while there’s someone else more capable in your team.”
“Oh, right. Yeah, I should’ve pointed it out to Eliana when she assigned me the role.”
“Of course. Eliana rarely makes mistake, but even I have to question her choice in this case.”
“You know, she should’ve assigned the role of leader to someone else.”
“And who might that be?” Alby asked with a proud smirk.
“It’ll definitely have to be Lewis.”
“That’s right— wait, Lewis? Why Lewis?”
Tal avoided Alby’s gaze as he answered, “Didn’t you see how he was yesterday? He had the guts to move in front of everyone. That’s the quality a leader needs to have to successfully lead a team.”
“I can see your point.”
“Oh, wait, did you think I was going to say someone else for the role of leader?”

“No, nobody else. Lewis definitely deserved it.”
A tense mood clouded over the group as they thought about Lewis. After they had captured Reine, the medical team carried Lewis out of the lair for treatment. We still didn’t know how he was doing.
To break the tension, Cyen suddenly spoke up, “I was most surprised about Din though.”
Din turned towards her, “Huh?”
“I never thought you would use the broken shield to your advantage. When you used the shield to take on the spiked ball. That was smart, but very risky.”
“I… To be honest with you, I can’t recall half of what happened before. It was like my body just moved on its own. I didn’t realize it then, but Lorelei pointed out that there was a moment during that fight where I couldn’t see or hear her.”
“There is one thing I’d like to point out.” It was Alby who spoke up. “When I rushed to your assistance in that room, I caught a glimpse of your eyes. They were much similar to Mun’s eyes. Are you two related in some way?”
“We’ve told you this before, Alby. People with those eyes are called Spirits and they don’t have to be related to have those eyes.”
Alby scoffed, “Like you expect me to believe some hocus pocus story about Gods and demons. I’ll believe it when I see it.”
Everyone pointed towards Mun, who had been eating chicken this entire time. She looked up when she noticed everyone pointing at her. Suddenly, she covered her chicken, “This is mine! Get your own!”
Ignoring Mun, Alby continued, “That can be explained through science. It’s a medical condition that spawns from her limited brain cells and most likely, lack of sleep.”

“I can agree with the limited brain cells, but do you really think Mun lacks sleep?” Tal asked. “She sleeps the most out of the entire Ravagers pack.”
Alby thought for a quick second before nodding. Mun didn’t seem to be paying any attention to the conversation at all as she continued eating her chicken.
“So what’s the explanation on why Din only had those eyes back then and not now?” Alby asked.
“We don’t know,” Din answered. “We’re trying to find the answer, but it doesn’t seem like anybody knows. Well, except maybe for one place my uncle told me about.”
“Is that where you wanted me to with you?” Tal asked. “Eliana told me briefly about it. She also made it my mission to go with you since you helped us out in the raid.”
“Oh I didn’t really want to force you to go.”
“No worries. I would’ve went anyways. We’re a team now.” Tal raised his fist towards Din, who bumped fists with him.
“Thanks.”
“You guys are already planning your next adventure?”
A familiar voice spoke from behind us. It was Lewis. Chris was with him as well.
“Lewis! You’re fine?” Tal asked.
He seemed okay enough to stand, but Chris was the one supporting his weight as he walked. His head and the side of his face was bandaged, but aside from that, he appeared well.
“Nothing, but a scratch,” Lewis laughed it off. Tal brought two more chairs to the table for them.
“So what’s this about travelling together? Where are you headed?” Lewis asked.
“Well, we were first heading towards Lanport and then—”
“Lanport?! You should’ve told me earlier! I’m from there, actually, we’re both from there,” he hugged Chris to bring her closer. Her face showed that she didn’t like being pulled like that, but she didn’t retaliate one bit.
“We can take you all there. I was planning on heading back anyways with the head injury and all. I feel fine, but I lost my balance every once in a while. So who else is coming? I can’t wait to show you guys around. We have the best seafood in this entire country and the air is a hell of a lot cleaner there than here, that’s just the absolute truth.”
“Looks like it’ll be Din, Lorelei, Mun, Lewis, Chris, and me, then.”
Lewis scratched his chin and looked around the table. “Who’s Lorelei? Am I missing something here?”
“Oh right, most of them don’t even know I’m here,” I laughed.
Tal asked, “Din, do you want to tell everyone?”
“She’s my dear friend whose ghost I can see still,” Din answered.
“There’s a ghost here?! H-how can you see ghosts?!” Lewis asked.
“Um, where do I even begin? It’s been a few weeks now, but it feels like what happened that night happened so long ago. It was during the ceremony to award the next title of Ace knight,” Din began.

8 77On Tilt [in progress]
Going on tilt is like falling in love: both make you foolish and should be avoided at all costs. *BROOKEI hate Dean Hollis.I tell myself that every day. And some days, I almost believe it. Some days, I sell myself on at least a solid dislike of who he is and what he stands for.Like his stupid charming smile. His stupid sculpted forearms. And his stupid addictive cologne that leaves me light in the head and weak in the knees. He's a vintage blend of infuriating and intoxicating, all in one deceptively handsome bottle.Let's not forget his notoriety for emotional hit-and-runs. Dean is a bad decision just waiting to happen. I would know.Been there, done that... Literally.*DEANI remember the first time I saw Brooke Maccabe. My first thought was, holy shit. That's the hottest girl I've ever seen. I was trying to think of a good pickup line when she walked up to our door and gave Brendan a hug.My next thought was, fuck my life. Because that dime? She was my best friend's baby sister. And she was sixteen.Verboten. Off-limits. The Demilitarized Zone. She may as well have had a blinking red neon sign over her head that read, 'Look but don't touch: Violation punishable by death'.Problem is, I really wanted to touch. And the even bigger problem is, nine years later, I did.*18+ for explicit adult content
