As the temperature rises, so too does my temper

with many scientists telling us that the end is near

as pollution pumps out faster than we would prefer

climate change being the new words we all must fear.

As a concerned citizen, I genuinely want to help out

doing whatever I can to lower my carbon footprint

calling for water preservation during a long drought

we should all tread lightly, humanity isn't a short stint.

Yet all these words continue to fall upon many deaf ears

while reckless governments prefer to turn a blind eye

and nothing changes as each rare species disappears

so when the end arrives, it's our civilization that will die.

This is a kind of behavior that we can no longer permit

for it's the human race that needs saving, not the planet.
