Sometimes when enough mana pollutants are concentrated in the environment, they will liquify and transform into a sentient being. The slime is a morose creature. Though it often makes an attempt to move away from any stimuli that bothers it, the slime is just as likely to spring forth and latch onto it.
Due to their bodies being made of pure mana, they are highly acidic to the touch and will corrode flesh and other natural materials. Slimes can be quite lethal if underestimated.
They also have surprisingly high defense. With its viscous body, the slime is impervious to physical damage. Thus, they must be attacked with a magic type to which it is not immune.
When killed, their bodies compress and harden into a mana nodule.

What’s worse is that the Great Devourer, Ancient Calamity, and Spawn from the Void Beyond Time, Space, and Sanity is now aware of a new world to plunder, a world called Dirt! (Told you this translator sucks) Warning Extra Crunchy Authorial Vebosity! Lots of infodump in the early chapters, but I learn my lesson and it does get better, eventually.
