《Stupid Cat》51- Vs Worst pt. 9

Renya hugged the silver sword with gusto. Syon had never seen Renya so happy. She half melted into mist on instinct as a defense mechanism.
"Where'd you find such a wonderful imitation of the Wolf Sword Runa uses?" Renya gushed.
Syon quickly decided to hide the fact it was the real sword. She would hide the fact she killed Runa herself after the hardest fight in her or Myon's career. She had no confidence she could sell Renya a lie right now. So, Syon did what she was best at and drifted away into a sparkle of mist.
She had one final thing to do anyways. As she flew over the battleground strewn with monster flesh and flat tree stumps, she located a mass of tentacles with Ichi's hair peeking out. A cold wind drifted under the tentacles deftly mincing them off Ichi's unconscious body. Syon landed near his form, turning away her head with a blush at his nearly naked form. She crouched pulling out a healing seal Myon gave her. Without looking Syon felt around for his chest and placed the seal, rubbing her hand across it once before she got too embarrassed to continue.
Standing up, Syon whipped the golden scroll from her sleeve to her open hand. With a flick of her fingers it opened, and she chose the weapon that she thought suited him best. Syon looked at the thick short mangled sword with a spiky guard. It had flecks of blood and endless dents, scratches, and jagged points along the cleaver blade. Ever since she saw Ichi's strike against the Mountain Lord, she thought for sure that this was the perfect match.
Earlier, she watched over Ichi's fight with Scipio. She waited to signal for Myon's attack on purpose. Scipio's words made her feel safe enough to let them have at each other. If he was serious, then Syon wouldn't even have had a chance to distribute weapons from the Armory. She felt glad that Renya had pulled off the merger with the cat fine as well.

Looking to the stars, she saw bright blue flashes. Myon chasing an invisible white fleck called Scipio. Syon couldn't tell how long she had until Scipio overwhelmed Myon. Syon told her to play for time, and Myon's stalling for time with her magic won both of them more fights than Syon would like to admit.
Syon heard Ichi groan below her. In fright she dropped the heavy sword on his body and turned to mist. Ichi grabbed around for his stick by instinct, as he woke up he channeled energy into the white part of his stick and drew it from across the field into his hand. His other hand grasped the thick sword as he leaped to his feet.
He admired the blade. He remembered it. Back after he fought Myon, he saw it in the closet where Myon kept her golden bullets.
"The Orc Sword?" Ichi wondered aloud.
Holding it, he felt like his arm warmed up. Ichi looked up, watching the blue flashes. As he did, in Ichi's mind an ancient roar of battle rang out. An unending roar. It reminded him of drums. It wasn't like the Tanuki drums he felt before that went don don don. This was something much more primal.
"Syon. Thanks. Giving a man a weapon is always a good choice." Ichi said.
Ichi could smell Syon's invisible form beside him just fine. Syon partly solidified in shock before blinking back into a mist.

The Paths of Magick
Credits: Story by Xcaliburnt. Cover Art by @Bervolart. Magick, the power to bend the laws of reality. All because of a mystical substance known as mana. Mages follow the Paths to achieve power, for there is no more addictive chase. Each Path winds and twists, forcing mages through the flames of adversity and challenge. Though the operative word is "path", the reality is far less straightforward. Instead of a road, Paths are like the branches of world trees, erupting into the heavens, intertwining, and ending in sharp snaps. Only the strongest reach the sky. There are several Paths, and many Ways to walk them—variations of the same Path, and like the stars, they are endless. Magick is the sacred flame that scours the fat, rendering the truest self. Superfluous flesh melting away to show the skeleton of one's being. A chance for ascension—apotheosis. Though not every mage works to godhood, if they survive long enough, It is inescapable. Witness the lives of those that tread the knife's edge of self-destruction. Each one intertwined in their search for answers, revenge, and, most of all: power. These individuals have all lost something precious—irreplaceable—and In search of filling the void left behind, they have taken up the mantle of a mage. Per aspera ad astra. Ad mortem vel divinitatis. (Through adversity to the stars. To death or divinity.) There is no consistent release schedule except my consistent inconsistency. Besides, there’s like a thousand pages worth of content, how can—you already read it? Goddamn. Oh, and there is a very long hiatus between volumes as I intend to edit and rewrite a lot. What to Expect: This story is progression fantasy, so expect a healthy dose of training. It's also heavy on slice of life, and it isn't entirely overarching-plot-driven. Expect characters to live their lives, and not always be on some quest to save the world. There's a lot of magic theory and discussion about it in the story. So, if you don't like impromptu lessons on sorcerous theory by traveling monster slayers, this might not be for you. But if you do like it, rejoice! For there is a lot of it. This is also heavy on prose, purple as a bruised eye. I use outdated, uneccesarily collegiate-level terms and play around with the writing style just for the heck of it. I find it fun to wax and wane poetic, and that might grate on you—I don’t plan to change this aspect of the Paths much if at all. Onto the viewer discretion is advised parts: This is grim-dark/ grim-heart. Take the tags seriously. There will be combat scenes that are brutal and horrifying. Fights to the death tend to be. This is a tale about medieval mercenaries (quite literal killers for hire), man-eating monsters, and eldritch gods beyond the material plane. Beside that, there will be traumatic events that are best left unread. I do not detail certain acts I find heinous enough, instead leaving some parts unwritten but still alludded to if not outright stated; there is simply no graphic narration thereof. This is not for the faint of heart.
