The Orphanage, an orphan is getting adopted. Clyde, one of the older orphans, is getting adopted by an old couple that can't make anymore children. The reason? They are getting too old to do chores and need help.
I say good riddance, him and Jean eat my oatmeal whenever I wake up for the past few days. As a result, it has force me to steal a spoonful of oatmeal from the other orphans.
How many of us is there? Twenty, and four caretakers. Well, it's going to be nineteen orphans now.
Why is this an issue? He was going to lend me his dagger to go out on patrol with. Why was he going to lend it? Because I didn't tell on him, as well as Jean for taking my food.
What am I going to do now?
The skill "Roll Die for Death" has been activated! Toss the Die at your toes for effect!
The frozen time happens once more as my spirit tosses the pink diamond Die at my feet. A "3" appears.
"Roll Die for Death" lvl.1
Roll a spirit Die granted to you by Lady Luck.
(1)A small force of nature might help you.
(2)A person feels compelled to help you.
(3)Your enemy changes priorities.
(4)Any action you take is enhance by "Luck" causing a favourable outcome.
(5)An attack with any weapons causes unconsciousness to your enemy
(6)Lady Luck appears and helps you out! Amazing!
The moment time started moving again from everything being frozen still, the old couple spotted me and decided they wanted somebody younger instead. The funny thing is, I don't want to be adopted, I like Petra.
On the other hand, what if another monster slime breaks in again? That would literally kill my very existence.
On the other hand, this couple looking to adopt an orphan, should know a lot of ways to survive, because, they are old.

I remember someone telling me once, that our elders life lessons, lessens the danger with their stories.
"My name is Ren Marler, it's a pleasure to meet you, is there any chance you can adopt both of us? I am actually close to Clyde.", I hug Clyde's arm, secretly pinching his side. I whispered to him, that he owes me still.
"Yea, please take both us together, we are practically inseparable, Uh huh.", says Clyde sheepishly.
The old man puts up his hand to tell us to wait as he pulls his wife away to discuss.
*****
Remembering my quests as time passes, they are still in progress. The patrol is tomorrow. I got the town memorized now, the layout is like a big rectangle with a huge square at the end, the square is all the farmers fields.
The rectangle is the mix of every facility, including the orphanage, we live on the outskirts of the rectangle, that's the reason why monsters sometimes sneak in.
I can't wait to collect the experience and level up. These quests are too demanding, luckily, I got the toiletries quest shortened down to a week by doing it each day, instead of every three. At least they would be all finished when I do my patrol.
*****
The couple returned, they've come to an agreement of taking us both. Petra smiles sadly at this.
"I am happy, I am not s-sad. You are getting taken away from me. I mean you are given a chance at making something out of yourself. You'll still be around town anyway, don't forget to comeback and s-say hi s-sometimes.", tears start gushing out as she tells me.
"I really like you, maybe we can do a quest together sometime in the future? I'll never forget how you saved me.", I remember, I was pathetically calling out for help in a sluggish manner. Scared outta my mind from that slime monster with bloodshot eyes.

I hug Petra goodbye, then she says something similar to Clyde while crying as well. She really cares about us huh? My chest feels tight for some reason. The happy life I prayed for, is this really okay?
*****
The elderly couples name is Abe and Edna Prickly. They own a tailor shop, where they don't make clothes, but fix old clothes.
I let the old couple know I am currently on a bunch of quests that are almost done. I asked them for a weapon that's better than a dagger. I got shot down, a big nope. So I whisper to Clyde, "Gonna need your dagger for the patrol."
*****
All the rookies are here with me at the meeting at the Guard Barracks. Sir Laid-back Guard is checking us over, then gave us some rations to take on the patrol with. He advises the way to kill the variety monsters, and to look out for the people around you when attacking or throwing weapons.
He holds no responsibility if we die to these easy to kill monsters, and are free to leave the rookie program.
One person backed out, I didn't even realize it's the daughter of the Laughing Raven tavern, angry red lips. She looked scared, that is, until she noticed me with a just dagger strapped to my side for protection.
Angry red lips has a small buckler shield and a short sword. So, after seeing me with a small dagger only as my weapon, she walked towards me.
"You're here too? Just a dagger, seriously? You know you could die, right?"
"I know, but we were just taught how to kill monsters easily, as long as no high grade monster appears, we're fine."
Sir Laid-back Guard says, "Little lady, are you coming or going? You could die, you know that right?"
He obviously overheard our conversation, I agree with the guard, she should go back. She might make her family sad if she got hurt.
"No, I am coming, this guy is obviously gonna get himself killed out there. He needs someone to watch his back.", angry red lips replies.
"What's your name anyway? Mine is Ren.", I forgot, I am socially awkward.
The guard and angry red lips responds at the same time.
"Alex, short for Alexander."
"Alex, short for Alexa."
Just be called Alexa! Why short it an "A"!

Mycology
Declan was but a teenager when he was invited to Gaia. It wasn't some popular VRMMO like the ones his friend keeps recommending, nor was it a 'game' in the traditional sense. Gaia was the stopgap to Indiri, a living breathing world, the final creation of a dead genius. Invited to this world by Eve, the overseer and an AI light-years greater than any that came before her, Declan was given a choice. To join or not to join? Well, why the hell not? Hello, this is a pretty basic VR story which I started writing out of boredom, don't expect anything too great here, it's a somewhat unique setting but with mostly slice of life comedy shenanigans with no real 'plot' since I can't reliably include stakes in a world where respawning is a thing. I'll try to upload at least once every other week but real life stuff may get in the way occasionally. **WARNING** Protagonist comes with an inbuilt wizard hat. Also, any mentions of chapter titles shall be met with falling rocks TPK. **ACTUAL WARNING** Story may or may not read like the fever dream of an eclectic sasquatch with internet connection. Do be warned, that this story has extremely slow pacing by design. Join the Discord!! https://discord.gg/p2gxqs4 Laugh at my empty Patreon!!
