《Universe 2.0》Chapter 17 The trouble came

The party led Ben and climbed up the hole, because they didn't notice the stairs just now. They went back to the director's office.
"Mr Wilson, we've found the instruments. They're underground. That should be your storeroom, I suppose." Said William, as he opened the door.
"Oh, really? That's great! Thank you very much." Director had a happy smile on his face. But when he caught sight of the stranger, his smile stopped and he said harshly, "Who are you, please?"
Ben lowered his head, not daring to look at him.
"It doesn't matter. You say, and I won't punish you severely."
"Go ahead, Ben." William patted him on the shoulder.
"It was I who hid your instruments, Sir..." Ben told Wilson what had just happened.
"Oh, I see!" When Wilson heard this, he replied with a smile, "Forget it. Since you've admitted your mistake, I'll look for an opportunity for you to make amends. Now that it's time to open the doors for concerts, I am wondering if you know a young lady named Maria."
"Who?"
"Maria."
"I'm sorry, Sir, but I don't know a girl named Maria."
"OK. Let me introduce briefly. She is Uncle Sam's daughter..."
"Wait a minute, Mr Wilson. Whose daughter did you say is she?" Asked William in surprise, "Is it the owner of Garage 95?"
"Yes, that's him. His daughter studied music and was very successful. She recently plans to make her debut here. It is said that the score appears to have been composed by her own and includes piano sonatas and orchestral harmonies, as well as a symphony, which will be performed by piano, harp, flute, clarinet, trombone, etc. The show, I suppose, is in the next few days, and she has told me she will come to see me once before the show. I think you can make friends with her and learn music from her because, according to Uncle Sam, she has reached the level of a professor."
"Wow, really? Thank you very much, Sir!" Ben knelt on the ground and kowtowed. The others helped him to his feet.
Just then they heard someone coming in. It was obvious that the person was wearing high heels, for the clear and regular "da, da, da" echoed through the hall. William also heard "ding ding".
"Is that the jewels she is wearing?" He wondered.
The footsteps came closer and closer. It sounded like the person wanted to go straight into the office. "Will it really be Maria?" Ranran also muttered.

"She seems to be muttering something." Photon said to Natalie.
The door opened a crack and the party moved in unison toward the door. But then it froze.
"Who is wasting time over there!" Said William rather unpleasantly, "Hurry up if you want to come in, and the director is right here! Hurry up!"
The door opened slowly and a comely woman came in and stood at the desk. She was wearing a broad purple patterned hat and a pale yellow dress. There were bright bells at the hem of the dress. A pair of transparent stockings peeked out from under her dress, wrapping her slender legs. A pair of brown leather shoes wrapped her feet tightly but just right -- they didn't make her feel uncomfortable. She lifted her hat, and William saw her eyes shining like emeralds, and her lips, raised slightly, were bright red.
"Hello, Mr Wilson, this is Maria." She smiled and bowed, holding out her white-gloved hand.
The director seized it joyfully and shook it a few times. "Here you are at last, miss." He replied.
"Wow." Ranran whispered in William's ear, "Her voice is better than mine!"
If Ranran's voice was like a thrush in the forest on a spring day, then Maria was a lark, the singing master.
"They are..." She turned hesitantly to look at them carefully. William gave an introduction.
"Oh! Are you from another universe?" Maria screamed loudly.
"That's right. I heard you're going to have a show here soon." William said.
"Well, it's true."
"When?"
"I haven't decided yet. I'm planning on tomorrow..."
"Tomorrow will do." Said the director, "You may begin at eight o'clock, if you are sure. The whole day will be for you."
"Oh, really? That's great! Tomorrow!"
"Wow! It's great to be able to enjoy your debut so soon!" Photon jumped up, "By the way, could we have a look at your score?"
"Oh, sure! Let me see... Eek? Where is it? Oh no, let me see... Ah -- oh, no! My God, it's not true!" Cried Maria desperately.
"What?" Ranran asked in surprise, "Do you mean that your score is missing?"
"Oh yes! Ah, come on! Please tell me it's not true! I'm dreaming! Oh, no..." Maria's voice was tinged with tears.
"How can this be done?" Natalie, like a cat on hot bricks, turned to Maria and asked, "Excuse me, miss, is that piece of music really long?"

"You bet. It was a treasure that I spent three months composing. Too bad it's gone like this! Woo......" Glittering tears slipped down her white face, like bright stars in the sky.
"Alas...... Do you remember where you put it?" Ranran asked.
"It's obviously in this bag!" Cried Maria, pointing to the pink backpack she was carrying.
"This is strange. Did you ever feel that someone had touched your bag?"
"No!"
"Really?" William demanded.
"Really! I swear!" Her cry grew louder.
"Then it's only possible you forgot to bring it." William analyzed.
"No!" Cried Maria, distraught, "I'm sure I brought it! I clearly remember that I took the red folder, not the purple one... God, there's only 14 hours left; how am I going to get back!"
"What are you hurrying off for?" Natalie asked.
"I made a pre-copy of the score and kept it at home. In order to well keep it, I locked up, but did not use the camera to take down! Now I won't be able to put on the show! Woo......"
"But you'll have another chance." The director patted her shoulder gently, comforting her.
"How long will it be available here?"
"Gosh," Wilson said with a sigh, "a lot of musicians have heard about my reopening and have come to me to make reservations. In that case, it must be a month later at the earliest..."
"What? Oh, my God! A month! I'm going to do another show in a month! I had planned it for a long time, but now the plan is all messed up! I wish it weren't true... Woo......"
The others paced the room anxiously, bewildered. Maria was already dissolved in tears, and Director Wilson was so anxious that there were crystal beads of sweat on his forehead.
"Give the girl an early chance, if you can, God!" He said helplessly.
Then William heard several car horns in the street.
He began to learn in spite of himself, "Beep - beep! Toot!" Suddenly an idea flashed through his mind. He immediately turned to Maria, patted her and asked, "Excuse me, miss, where are you studying music?"
Maria answered, sobbing, "A place called Morse College... But I've been feeling really bad lately!"
"What do you mean?"
"There have been countless angry cars honking around the college every day for a month, making it impossible for us to have classes!"
"Oh, I see. So you particularly want those rude drivers to get a message across: honk as little as possible?"
"Yeah, I really wanted to shout it out then!"
"Well, I think you might as well do that in a clever way." Said William mysteriously, with a slight smile.
"A clever way?" The others asked him in surprise, in unison. "What do you want to do?" Ranran asked.
"Ha ha ha! Don't worry." Said William, smiling quietly, "I promise I can get Ms Maria's show on time! If you'll excuse me, I'll be back soon!"
Without waiting for questions, he raced out of the concert hall and telephoned Hagar, the electric fan.
A few minutes later, he came in sweating and breathing heavily. "Where have you been?" Ranran asked.
"You are asking the wrong question, dear Ranran. You should ask, 'Where did the phone go?' " William laughed.
"What do you mean?" Ranran was even more puzzled.
"Don't worry, folks. I have contacted a friend whom I have met before who knows of an abandoned car park. He said we can find enough cars there with their horns still intact."
"Is that the electric fan we met?" Asked Photon, thinking quickly.
"Clever!" William clapped his hands and began pacing, saying, "So, what I'm going to do is to spend 14 precious hours collecting the horns and re-dubbing them on the computer. I need to create an unexpected piece with these horns! I don't think it needs to be flashy, or very professional. Even if it's just a few harmonizing pitches, the spectators won't think you've prepared this! Plus, it's a good way to educate those rude drivers, which is exactly what you want! So, I promise God, you will become famous overnight!"
William said the words in rapid-fire succession, still smiling confidently. As for the others, they still doubted or did not believe him for the time being.
"Are you sure this will work?" Asked Maria, a little sobbing.
William just smiled and answered confidently,
"Don't worry, miss. Leave it to me."

Thanks to puddles4263 and his story The Legend of Randidly Ghosthound for the inspiration on the world this is set in. If you have never read that I highly recommend it, and if you have read it and enjoyed that story then I hope you'll enjoy mine as well. This is the first story I'm ever putting out for public consumption so reader beware on that. Any constructive criticism is always appreciated, simply leaving a half star review tells me that you're a moron who doesn't know how to use words. I'm constantly trying to improve my writing and feedback and criticism on what works and what doesn't is the only way to do that at the point I feel I am at. Last, I just marked all the content warnings because you never know where a story will take you and I don't want to exclude anything (though there will never be a harem). I am going to release 1-2 chapters per week on Fridays. Thanks and enjoy.
