《Muddy Dreams》8. Potential

The fact that Ben had tier 6 potential reveled just after that very fact would have been useful to change the town forever. If we had have a Tier 6 come from our town, we would have received a great library and training center, quite a bit of funding from the Empire, allowing us to reach a far greater height than ever before.
"Impressive enough, you will be assigned to the Heri cohort. Be happy, that will allow you to go far."
Ben didn't seem quite so happy with it, now that he learned he wasn't even placed in the best cohort with that talent, from the talk the primes had at least it was impressive enough to be mentioned.
The Line seemed to move far too quickly for my liking. Poor Joyd with his Tier 1 Potential was placed in the reserve construction Unit. The line never stopped moving, there was no more major surprises beyond that till we got to me. No one had a potential above Tier 2. That was when I was put to the test.
Placing my hand on the stone. I felt a small power breach my aura. The aura I had been trying to get to work for me at least a little, but since my awakening I had no real chance to practice. I could feel the power churning inside of me. The crystal was invisible to my aura for quite some time, that was until It reached a crescendo, Golden light infused our surroundings.
I couldn't believe it. Neither could anyone around me. I had the potential for Tier 7, one day I would be able to go toe to toe with the Halas who had taken so much from me. That would also allow me to make some waves in the capital, bringing to light what happened to me in my youth.

Ben's face was the first I saw, his frown being more than enough to know that our relationship would be strained from here on out. Our plan would still work, even better now with both of us having a great potential, allowing us to take more resources from the Hordes if they wanted to cultivate us, eventually giving us real sway and power in the Hordes. That goal was never more real. I had power and potential.
"Very impressive Child, looks like their will be someone from this small town heading to Huti"
The expressions of the Primes quickly changed to something akin to respect, no matter how small it might be.
"Seems it was worth coming here after all Wevry, come now Child, you will follow us to where you belong, not among these dead weight."
Ben's eyes light up with anger, but he was stuck fast, moving against these obviously powerful folk, would be suicide. I tried to apologize with my eyes. That feeling came and went though. I couldn't apologize for my potential. Especially not it would help us to achieve what we need.
Saying a quick goodbye, I quickly followed behind these two assholes.
"I must say as always, it is refreshing to be so wrong about something, sorry for anything we said earlier, it obviously didn't apply to you. Just those other scum that came along with you."
The other prime who I gathered was Wevry, a tall guy with a bit of a crooked nose, nodded in agreement.
"How could we compare you with those Tier 1 scum, they would probably be better just killing themselves outright, it would be quicker."
Their chat really wasn't pleasant, although not perfect, at least they gave even people with extremely low potential the chance of a happy life, it might not be the most comfortable. It was at least fulfilling. Seeing these two disregards all their existences so thoroughly was quite disconcerting.

I made a vow right there and then, that no matter how powerful I got, I wouldn't discredit the existence of anybody, just because of their talent.
The path the primes were taking me took us out of the campsite. We got out onto quite a well layed path.
"Finally we can leave that shithole for a bit"
I couldn't help but agree, It took some time to realize but the smell in that tow had been truly awful. it was not something i would wish on anyone, to be living constantly in such filth. It had been horrible. Now back out into the open air, my mind finally began to come to terms with my new existence. I was someone with Tier 7 potential. There had only been 3 people I had ever heard of from around my area of the Empire with a similar level. They had all gone on to make waves in the capital. That was my path now as well.
I would just have to escape across unknown distance, while possibly fighting against an army that was willing to go against the Empire, a power that had a way to keep a Halas in line. I was not looking forward to it.
Still I didn't have many options. The path continued. The primes chatted amongst themselves pretty much ignoring me.
After about half an hour of walking the valley opened up into another one. The difference was stark. This was an army that rivaled the empire.
Immense defense construction, incredible organisation. line after uniform line of tents. This was an army I could see facing the empires army. I couldn't escape from this. That was going to be a far more difficult process than I initially thought. My dreams of grandeur quickly disappeared, this was going to be a long path.

The Choice is Not Yours
Author's Note: (As of November 20, 2021) I rewrote all the chapters perhaps more than a year ago, but haven't announced that I did so. Because that kind of announcement would include something along the lines of, "I'm working on the story so expect new chapters!" But the truth is, I lack motivation to do anything. And I would hate myself if I broke a promise. I'm extremely sorry if you have been patiently waiting for uploads. These days, I've been studying, not well, but studying somewhat. I will definitely bring more to show, with regular uploads. If not this story then there's another story I've been writing that's really exciting to me. It's not exactly similar to this story since it has a male lead and he is a baneful asshole with even less morals. I hope you'll like it when it comes to existence. And I'll leave my announcement off with the aforementioned promise. Meet Amber, a tomboyish, unstable, and cheeky lass who likes to keep to herself. According to her, she'll live the rest of her life on auto-pilot mode, awhile holding onto the few things that make her remotely happy. However, she forgot that people never really leave you alone, be it humans or even the Gods. And exactly that happens, ending her monotonous life on such the Gods' whim. But at what cost to her? Will she be able to hold onto the things she holds dear? Or will she fail miserably and lose herself in the process? That's what the Gods want to know. Disclaimer: I do not own the cover photo.Warning: If you are easily triggered, I am not writing this novel for you.
