Su cabeza no le iba a explotar, pero en lugar de eso sentía un peso sobrehumano sobre ella que le impedía abrir los ojos. Imágenes de Ariel, del Erosionador atacando Alta Espada y de otros que no lograba ver con claridad pasaba a toda velocidad por su mente. También veía un sitio que no conocía y del que apenas recordaba detalles, aunque esa era la sensación que permanecía en su pecho.
No estaba soñando, pero tenía la certeza de no comprender algo de vital importancia. Quiso gritar en cuanto sintió que el dolor regresaba, taparse la cabeza con cualquier cosa que le reconfortara. Porque una vez más vio cómo todo desaparecía y, al final, el dolor también. Se mantuvo inmóvil, dudando de que aquello hubiera terminado e inseguro de si volvería a ver algo más.
—No te asustes, estás bien.
Esa voz le sonaba. Era cálida, tranquila y reconfortante. El inconfundible tono de Leith denotaba cercanía, siendo este gesto lo que le animó a que se incorporara, ocultando la cabeza entre las rodillas.
—¿Cómo te sientes?
La dragona se apoyó sobre su pierna, insegura de presionarle más y esta vez usando su propia voz. Finnian alzó la vista, viendo las escamas moradas de ella relucir por un par de rayos de sol. No estaban en su tienda de campaña, de eso no cabía ninguna duda, aunque si en un lugar con ventajas.
—Podría dormir durante una semana —admitió Finnian, notando un cansacio inusual en él
—Nos asustaste mucho cuando perdiste el conocimiento —dijo la dragona, arrugando el hocico.
Le puso una pata en su hombro, consiguiendo que Finnian la mirara. Su reloj interno le gritaba que ya era muy entrada la mañana, aunque en aquella cabaña no pudiera averiguarlo así de rápido. Sin embargo, la tranquilidad de su compañera dragona le hizo inspirar hondo, disipando el miedo con el que se había despertado.
—Estamos… ¿Estamos en Galya? —dijo Finnian.
—¿No te acuerdas de nada? —dijo Leith.
Su mente estaba borrosa, recordando más bien poco después de la batalla. Ni siquiera sabía cómo había llegado hasta allí, pero no estaba entre las primeras preguntas que se le ocurrían.

—Siempre has estado acompañado —explicó Leith en cuanto buscó a los demás—. Te trajimos aquí porque nadie te molestaría, no cerca de la casa del Guardián.
No tardó en explicarle que el elthean que les atacó era Ailfryd, Guardián del Árbol Galya. Cada zona Dorean contaba con un protector, algo parecido a lo que le explicaron sobre los dominios. Las luces que rodearon Galya no eran nada más que su sistema de alarma, una protección que avisaba de cualquiera que se estuviera acercando por la noche. Los crecientes sucesos, los ataques del Erosionador y el tener al Señor de la Calamidad haciendo de las suyas cambió bastantes cosas. No solo Ailfryd evolucionó, sino que incrementó las defensas y ni les preguntó antes de atacarles.
—Sigue sin ser una respuesta para que se lanzara por nosotros de esa manera —dijo Finnian, frotándose los ojos—. ¿Cómo no pudo reconocer a Aer? ¿O a Rune?
—Eso no lo sé, aunque… Tengo una teoría —admitió la dragona.
Menos mal que no estaba Ead, porque la explicación habría sido mucho más rebuscada de lo que en realidad era. Leith le habló de algo tan básico como que todos tenían un olor y energía que les caracterizaba. Los elthean lo poseían, pero en cuanto Finnian compartía su poder, la unión entre ellos crecía y hasta alteraba un detalle como aquel.
—Los leopardos que me encontré al llegar a Elthea dijeron algo así. Supongo que es una forma para localizar a cualquiera.
—No es que todos los elthean tengan un olfato tan desarrollado —dijo Leith, fingiendo que le olisqueaba—. Pero nuestra energía ha cambiado al contar con la tuya, o eso explicó Ead después de que perdieras el sentido.
Ead y sus charlas en momentos inoportunos. Al menos el resumen de Leith le quitó las dudas sobre la noche anterior, mientras que el salir de la cabaña le contestó a otras preguntas. Si desde fuera el Galya se veía como un árbol gigantesco, encontrarse justo en este le mostraba otro mundo que esperaba a ser explorado.
Lo más curioso de su visión fue que, incluso con la cantidad de árboles que había en aquel bosque, la luz del sol se filtraba con facilidad, ofreciéndoles la claridad del día. El césped no era tan salvaje como fuera y apenas le llevaba por debajo de los tobillos. Tras abandonar su cabaña, la cual era más grande que su casa en la Tierra, leith le llevó hasta una a no mucha distancia del gran tronco.

Y tras ellos, allá por donde los caminos dejaban ver otras casas, escuchaban el movimiento y la vida que había allí, aunque ninguno cerca de ellos. Quería estirar las piernas, explorar por allí y encontrar a los demás. Sobre todo verlos y asegurarse que estaban bien, o así pensó hasta que los vio aparecer.
—¡Por fin te has despertado, Finnian! —exclamó Aer.
—Si tiene mejor cara, ¡y eso ya es mucho! —añadió Rune con fingido sarcasmo, antes de que Aer la arrastrara para que se acercara más a ellos.
¿Desde cuándo Rune se mostraba tan cautelosa? La elthean mantuvo el silencio, suspiró y terminó por hacerle caso a Aer, añadiendo con seriedad:
—Ni se te ocurra volver a excederte como anoche. Nos asustaste mucho.
—Percibimos tu miedo cuando te quedaste inconsciente —admitió Aer en un susurro.
—¿Lo sentisteis también? —repitió Finnian con un hilillo de voz.
—Esto funciona en ambos sentidos —dijo Leith—. No tienes que impresionarnos ni hacer cosas así. Sabemos que te tenemos de nuestro lado.
—Somos un equipo y nos ayudamos a ser más fuertes —asintió Rune con una sonrisa.
—No pienses ni un segundo que permitiremos que te hagan daño —añadió Aer.
Y sin que él dijera nada más, los tres le abrazaron. Puede que no fuera un gesto incómodo o inesperado, pero significaba más para Finnian de lo que sería capaz de admitir.
—No sabes entrar en un sitio sin causar un espectáculo, ¿no Finnian? —dijo Ead, dándole un suave pellizco en la nariz.
—Preocúpate cuando eso no pase —dijo Finnian, sin ser capaz de ocultar su sonrisa.
—Eres todo un elemento y distinto a los Signos anteriores, o eso me estaban contando.
La voz de Ailfryd no era ni aguda ni grave, parecida a la de alguien de su propia edad, pero más madura al mismo tiempo. Con esas palabras consiguió que se separaran, acomodándose en el suelo para prestarle atención. El mismo elthean que les atacó por la noche era una especie de mamífero de pelaje azulado y ojos púrpuras. Con brazos y piernas cortas, su cabeza tenía forma de cono con unas orejas al más puro estilo élfico en la parte superior. En la punta de su cola doble había dos gemas púrpuras del mismo color que sus ojos. Lo único que tenía de “hada” era su tamaño sí fueran como él, pero nada comparable a alguien como Campanilla. Este continuaba levitando, igual que cuando pelearon, lo que le hacía recordar que era una caja llena de sorpresas y que no debía subestimarle por su tamaño.
—Ailfryd, ¿no? —dijo Finnian.
—Capitán Obvio, ¿quién va a ser? —se mofó Aer, negando con la cabeza.
—¿Habría sido mejor que le llamara Hadita Furiosa? ¿O Peleona?
Tampoco es que hubiera dicho nada malo, ¿o sí? Ailfryd tosió, puede que para romper aquel silencio que se formó de repente, o quizás se daba tiempo para contestar.
—Eso me lo merezco. En primer lugar, te pido disculpas por atacaros anoche —dijo Ailfryd.
—Vale, Hadito Furioso entonces… ¡Es broma! —exclamó Finnian, riéndose y pasándose la mano por la nuca—. Supongo que los demás ya se habrán presentado.
—Aer y Rune me han puesto al día, tranquilo —dijo Ailfryd, pronunciando una sonrisa.
Permanecía en el aire con tanta calma que resultaba hipnótico hasta el punto que ni siquiera respondió cuando le habló el Guardián. Ead revoloteó frente a su cara al darse cuenta de ello, para entonces escuchar un rugido que salía de sus tripas.
—Deberíamos comer. Llevamos demasiado tiempo hablando y un descanso os vendrá bien —dijo Ailfryd, mirando sobre todo a Aer y Rune—. Además, tampoco es que tengáis que huir de aquí, ¿no?
Y esperaba que continuara así por un tiempo. Sin prisas, poder comer, dormir y encontrar las respuestas que tanto necesitaba. Aunque igual allí no averiguaría todo, era un bonito lugar por el que comenzar, más aún con la compañía que tenía a su lado.
