《The Key of Destiny》Chapter 22.2 - The hunter becomes prey

Any interest that could have awakened the great mill would have to wait for another occasion. While they considered that the inhabitants of Arden were inside, they ignored whether it was by their own will or not, even though they took that initiative to avoid becoming damage from a fight that was already happening. The same elthean they had just released ran when he delivered the message, forcing them to leave to reunite with Leith and Nero.
"Someone is coming," the wolf informed them.
Hitting the ground, his senses caught more than the vibration. Nero had a strong connection with the earth and by doing that he could perceive objects, buildings and other aspects of his surroundings. Unfortunately, such a capacity had limitations, such as the range of action or that they were on a firm surface. Even by helping Finnian not to invest so much energy, the battle-led pull prevented the elthean from being accurately distinguished from their environment.
"At least I've been able to find the fastest method to get out of here," said the wolf, "but it won't be enough.”
Even with a mental map of what Arden was with its streets and buildings, it changed at such a speed that they could be trapped at any time. His flying companion was certain that, from heaven, they would find out what was missing, even though they would become an easy target.
"Rune, I know our eyes," Finnian asked, "and beware of projectiles.”
"On it!" she said, nodding with conviction.
Changing form and level almost instantly, Rune rose above the sky at the same time as Aer and Leith evolved. Angel and wolf protected him while the dronate joined his friend in the air, evaluating the terrain. Feeling how his energy pumped as if it were blood through his companions, they were able to pinpoint what was happening. And it is that, while Braunah had fulfilled his word, an elthian greater than the wolves was going just to his position. A triteratops of speckled green scales interposed in his way, destroying the houses he found in his passage. He was left with the strength for that and to stand alone with his back legs. However, the most disturbing thing was not only its size, but those yellow eyes that gave off purple energy. What a cutie!
"He's not the only one coming on his way," Rune thought.
"What are we going to do, Finnian?" Aer said.
"To get out of here? Fight."
Which was not going to be easy, and it wasn't because of the elthean who went looking for them to be exact (although it had a lot to do with it). On the horns of this one appeared a new one that they recognized instantly. Being illuminated by floating orbs, a fog surrounded Ariel as he was acting in presence. It could be the second time they saw the Lord of calamity, but the first time others collaborated with him. His gaze, full of ferocity, shone in the same way as his companion.

"That elthean is different, something has been done to change it," Leith said.
"He's not the only one," Nero said.
The pack was having trouble so Ariel had prepared for them. His eltheans, though less numerous, had been strengthened by maintaining dominance in that area. Because it was he, and not anyone else, who had control over Alder, the force now released by his henchmen was implacable. Braunah and his wolves managed to fight in a comparable way, but they did not have the same advantage and that was hurting them. That's why they wanted Finnian to strengthen them, although their magic won't work like that.
“Are you sure you can with my pet?” Ariel said, patting the triceratops horns.
"That you lent him a little of your power is nothing," Finnian said.
"You may surpass us in level, but you will be amazed at what we are capable of doing," said Aer, pointing a spear at them.
"At last you have learned to recognize your disadvantage!" Ariel exclaimed, applauding them eagerly as she laughed.
Before that show continued, Leith and Rune coordinated their attacks, launching a flare compressed by two energy rings. They impacted the dinosaur, creating a controlled explosion that stunned him not to intervene. And, as soon as Ariel went to dodge him, Aer's spear was wrapped in a golden beam, giving him full and sending him away.
"We have to keep moving," Aer said.
"We have to warn the pack, and Blanche!" exclaimed Finnian.
"I don't think it's necessary at this point," Nero said.
One could imagine Braunah's reproach, the words of the great wolf in the face of a defeat as “humiliating” as that, even though he was far removed from something like that. They tried and failed, it was more than many did, didn't they? And even though they escaped from there it was not as simple as they imagined, as new elthian people emerged from alleys, houses and roofs, before they could regain their breath, they were crossing the bridge and leaving Alder.
"Are you all whole?" Finnian said.
"For now," Leith said.
Because the situation ended up in need of it, they had agreed to meet in one of the highest and most remote mountain ranges, in order to be able to detect anyone who wanted to persecute them. The herd might have the disadvantage before and although Ariel elthean were less numerous, but stronger, they were far from fast. Other dinosaurs and animals ate land to them, until Leith launched a flare that struck the ground, creating a wall that some dared not go through. However, just where the rest of his group had to be waiting, they found him empty. Or almost.

Spotlights of light emerged from nowhere, illuminating them fully so that they would once again appear to calamity. Mounted on his pet-triceratops, his trailer emerged right behind it, opening and showing a couple of elthean holding a well-tied Blanche.
"I knew you had grown stronger, but you surprised me," Ariel said with his usual fierce smile as he stepped down to the ground. “You are becoming Elthea's hope.”
"A compliment? Now?" Aer snorted in disbelief.
"The only one you will have. It has been very easy for me to capture this renacuaja. Did you really think another sign would help you defeat me? Because looking at him from my perspective," Ariel said, widening a perverse smile and denying with the index, “even her partner is not able to fight in that state.”
"We would have warned you, but we didn't know you were here," Finnian said, holding on tightly to Nero. “The fog thing has been great. And the orbs to enlighten you? A brilliant idea.”
And even though smiling at a time like that, not to mention joking, it was not his intention, he couldn't think of another way to earn time. They had something of an idea to be able to free it, although nothing to ensure its security.
"Did you like it? At least someone who knows how to appreciate good ideas! The others complain that I put so much effort into how I appear, but every detail matters. That's why I want you to come with me."
"In your dreams!” Leith exclaimed, standing between him and Calamity, being flanked by Aer and Rune.
"Now, Signer. Don't make me repeat it," Ariel said, waving her hand to go with him. “Don't pay for your mistakes.”
"Try to catch him, if you dare," roared Nero.
He was first against Rune, moving in a flash and punching that the eagle could not dodge, achieving that he would end up on the ground. Leith appeared behind with the intention of grabbing him, taking advantage of the difference in his size and trying to immobilize him, all so that Aer would attack him once again. However, neither the dragon managed to put a claw on him, nor the angel's spear scratched him. Using his hands, he stopped them in their tracks with hardly any effort.
"The rumors about you may be true," Ariel smiled, releasing a loud laugh, hitting his companions as fast as a storm. “You're a surprise, a real challenge”, he clapped several times, even whisteling of how excited he was. “Please try your best. I haven't found the Eroder yet and I'm out of my appetite for a good fight.”
"Then that's what you'll get," Rune shouted, flapping loudly as he joined.
"Do you think you can defeat us all?" Braunah added, appearing there as well.
"I'm only interested in them, your pack and you can step aside," Ariel said.
"Yeah, I don’t think so!" Braunah shouted. “Attack!”
Finnian ignored the number, but wolves emerged around him in a manner similar to his encounter with the gominola ghosts. The attacks were quick, taking the surprise to close him and prevent him from continuing with that show. However, he did not even get upset for them, dodging them as if it were a dance. He shook his head, lifted a finger and, without his smile disappearing, added:
"You leave me no choice.”
And with the same calm that he had spoken to them, a microphone appeared and began to sing. From the trailer's speakers was born the sound of a strident and powerful electric guitar that anyone would have heard it miles away. Everyone was frightened and even he perceived that this melody was more than just music. The wolves shuddered, some holding that power while others were unable to move.
"Finnian!” Nero exclaimed, staggering and causing him to end up on the ground like the others.
"It's the music. He uses it to take away our power and strengthen himself," Ead whispered to him. “You have to do something!”
He grabbed his Mark by instinct, asking it to shine just like when the eltheans were evolving. If Ariel was taking away their strength, he would give them back to them. Aer lifted the flight with his armbands emitting a slight glow, concentrating gold energy in the palm of his hands. After an instant he expelled him against the Lord of Calamity, rubbing him on his torso as to dodge him at the last moment.
"That won't work with me again," Ariel said with a macabre smile. “You have potential, but I cannot allow you to go any further. Now enjoy me... Sweet Serenade!” Ariel said.
Then, before Leith or Rune could react, paralysis reached him, and unable to move he knew that the Lord of Calamity had him, in the most literal sense, under his claws.
