《The Key of Destiny》Chapter 2.1 - Waking up in High Sword

A fleeting idea passed through his mind, whispering to him that nothing was real and that it was due to a too intense dream. However, like the comets, it was momentary as soon as it returned to reality. The blow on the head made him open her eyes and close them immediately, although it was not due only to the pain but because he was surrounded by dwarfs observing him.

“Do you want to leave it space? That’s not going to help him! Less if he sees you stuck to his face.”

“A little late for that, isn’t it?” Finnian thought.

“Careful, Aer! We are not that ugly, and we have just saved you.”

Aer. That name was familiar to him, a warm voice even in moments of danger. He opened his eyes again and tried to find him, although his sight was dizzy. It was then that the different size people next to him helped him sit. So, after several seconds, he could recognize his rescuers: The blue “puppy” Aer, the bird girl Rune, and the group to which the name “Little Warriors” was doing too well.

Even when their weapons and equipment turned them into rivals to be considered, it was calming to see them smiling. Answering with the same gesture, but also because they look so adorable.

Similar to Aer and at the same time different. Some had mixed skin tones, similar to humans in their world, while most had fur in the same style as Aer. What was similar in all of them were their clothes, shields and weapons they wore. They wouldn’t want to eat him like the leopards before, that was certain.

“Why do you look at me like this?” he asked Aer, who didn’t separate from his side.

This frowned his eyes, not fully understanding what he was referring to.

“As if it were the first human you see”, Finnian said.

“It’s the truth, dummy human. Do you see others like you here?” Rune said, rolling his gaze.

“Ignore her; she’s grumpy because she’s hungry. I always do it when it goes like that,” Aer said. “Are you okay? What a blow you’ve given.”

“I am surprised that he speaks that well. Are these humans as strong as we are?” Rune said scathingly.

“Wonderful, Rune. Don’t give him a truce,” Aer exclaimed.

“Can anyone tell me where I am? And how have I come here?”

The words came out like a bomb, getting him to cough a couple of times, having his throat as dry as a desert. He frowned, palpating the back of his head and noticing what could be a bump or a small reminder of his first steps there.

“You are in Elthea,” Aer replied calmly.

“That doesn’t help me much, you know?’” sighed Finnian.

“You are not in your world but in ours,” Rune said sharply.

“Don’t tell me?”

It was enough to think of giant insects or look at them to realize how valid their words were. He almost jumped again when one of the Little Warriors approached him with a glass bottle. The content of this (very similar to milk) was purple with green chips and smelled of forest fruits. Waiting for him to drink it, he hesitated and then finished the liquid.

“It tastes... Blackberries and mint?” Finnian said, feeling a tickling in the tongue.

“It’s a ‘Multi-berry Medicine Potion’; it accelerates healing,” Rune said.

“You’re better, right? Thank Kay, it was his idea to get you better sooner, although we didn’t know if it would work on you,” Aer smiled.

That potion should be effective because his head not only stopped bothering him, but his forces returned to him as if he had just woken up.

The Little Warrior they had appointed, Kay, was at a reasonable distance from them but not so far from others. He looked like Aer, though with light brown skin and green eyes so expressive and full of curiosity that they said more than their silence.

“I am Aer, and the grumpy before is Rune, although that must already know…

“What? Your names?” Finnian grinned.

“Because the grumpy is at first glance, what is it?” Aer said with a slight smile, getting her friend to try to give her a coll

“I’m Finnian, but you can call me Finn”.

“So you finally woke up. How are you, human?”

That loud voice was so profound that it could pass through that of an adult. The new to appear was higher than the other little Warriors, although he couldn’t overtake him. However, between his bronze armour, and the large helmet with two horns in the purest Viking style resting on his head, it reached him above the waist. Resting a vast hammer on one of his shoulders, a prominent moustache accompanied the smile of that good-natured man who should have had no problem crushing his enemies regardless of their size.

“I am Theri. Don’t tell me that these kittens have eaten your tongue, huh?”

“Oh, the one of the hammer”, Finnian exclaimed, getting many others to laugh.

“This is not the first time I have been called like this”, he admitted and let go of a mighty laugh. “Why don’t you accompany me, so I can update you? You’re sure to have questions, and I can give you some answers.”

Why he was so sure? After all, nothing he had experienced so far could be comparable to that reality. No matter how much you can read, play, or watch movies that take place in magic or science fiction universes, things change when your life is at stake. However, being surrounded by small people, what other alternatives would he have?

“Don’t worry, besides for a couple of things, everything has an answer,” Theri said, widening his smile after seeing his.
