《Blaze》Chapter 68 - Gimme

Nickie quickly pushes Serah awake. “Serah! You got to see this!” She exclaims.
“What?” Serah says with tired eyes. “Let me sleep…” She mumbles.
“I said hurry, I have something to show you!” Nickie exclaims.
Serah opens her eyes. “Ugh, what.” She says as she sits up.
“Look, we picked up something good.” Nickie says, showing Serah a book.
Serah opens her tired eyes and looks at the book. “Old Cultivation Record? What the eff is that?” She asks.
Nickie smiles. “It's a journal. About some dude who traveled the multiverse. There’s so much shit in here! So much good tasty shit!” She says happily.
“What kind of shit?” Serah asks with a raised eyebrow.
“It has a bunch of guidelines for traveling the world. A lot of stuff. A lot of a lot of stuff. This is probably a treasure to some people.” Nickie says with a smile. She hands Serah the book.
Serah smiles. She was always in the mood for good stuff. She holds onto the book. She opens the book and has a look to read the first few pages.
What can I say? The world is a wild place. There’s effin’ traps everywhere. And monsters too. There’s so much crap to be aware of and prepare for, but in the end, what can we really do? Let me tell you. Nothing. There’s nothing we can do. For all the crap in the world to eat; there’s nothing we can do to contain it. Everything ebbs and flows, moving from one person to another, and we can only receive what we’re given. So how do we stop ourselves from falling? We follow the fucking rules is what we do.
Serah’s eyes widen. “What kind of book is this?” She asks before continuing to read.

But the thing is… There are people out there who are also following the rules. They do their part. And you can do yours if you choose. What do you call that? You call that family. And that… It extends throughout the multiverse…
Serah’s eyes widen again. “Holy shit.” She exclaims.
“That’s wild, right?” Nickie says.
“What else is in here?” Serah wonders as she flips through the pages.
“A bunch of stuff.” Nickie says.
…
…
“This book is wild!” Serah exclaims. “Now I know what we’re missing!” She exclaims.
“What?” Nickie asks.
“A found family!” Serah says excitedly.
“A found family?” Nickie asks with a raised eyebrow.
“Yes, a found family! Apparently they’re just out there in the multiverse! They’re people who just fit- you know- they just fit in your life.” Serah explains. “There are also a few other things we’ll probably need. We need to learn a decryption method. It’s a magical technique that lets you unlock different worlds. Apparently it works like a teleportation spell, but it decrypts a gateway to different world tunnels.” Serah continues to say.
“That’s wild.” Nickie says, nodding along.
“Also, also, we’ll probably need a motivation spell! You can’t travel through different world tunnels on your feet. You need a gravity spell or a motivation spell to propel you through the space.” Serah says with a smile.
…
…
“Well, we’re good to go.” Samantha says.
“Done already?” Serah asks with a raised eyebrow.
“Yep. The emperor is assassinated and the kingdom is in an uproar. We’re good to go.” Samantha says casually.
“Alright. I’m going back to Ironwall. Gotta ask someone something.” Serah says.
…
…
“Hey, deity! You there?” Serah asks.

“Yah, yah. What’s up.” The voice says.
“Ah, I got invited into the Shadow Order. Just wanted to know if you knew anything about decryption or motivation spells?” Serah asks.
“Oh? You got invited to that? They’re pretty good.” The deity of war says. “Yeah, I got those. I’ll lend them to you for a bit. Want’em?” She asks, sounding amused.
“Yes!” Serah says happily.
“Alright, but these are pretty valuable. I’ll have you pay it back some day. Hopefully when you’re big and a baller.” The voice says.
“Yah, yah. Just gimme.” Serah says impatiently.

Sexy Sect Babes
“One in a billion.” Jack kept repeating the mantra in his head. “One in a billion.” That was the number the Omni-Corps liked to cite whenever someone stepped onto one trans-mat pad and then simply… never stepped off the other. “Safer than a car,” he repeated as he slogged through the snow, his mining overalls doing at least a passable job of keeping out the cold as he brushed aside a tree branch. “Safer than a plane. Or a starship. Safest form of transport in the Star League.” He slammed his fist into a nearby tree, exo-empowered strength shattering it into little more than scattered bark and kindling. “Yeah, well I never heard of a car ride stranding some prick in another dimension!” He roared, his voice echoing through the seemingly endless forest around him. Then he kept marching. He’d seen the fire off in the distance. And given all the snow around, he sincerely doubted it was natural. Which left the unnatural. Which meant people. He hoped. Because even if the trans-mat had screwed up, he doubted it had dumped him too far off the central finite curve. The fact that the air was breathable and that he could recognize the trees around him as oak told him that much. And if the dimension he was in had trees native to Earth, chances are it would have animals too. Of which humans would hopefully be no exception. “Because I’ll be damned if I spend the rest of my days talking to goddamn squirrels.” No, if there were humans on this mudball, he was going to find them. One way or another.

Author's note:This is an old version that has been completely dropped in favor of a new and better version. I have learned a lot from written this instance, but I believe the work has been subpar and I can do much better with the story and the premise I have devised. I will be posting the new version on a different page.
